GTA Compression Test
Hey guys,
I think I popped an apex seal or lost compression on one rotor as my car barely starts, sounds like **** at idle, and has very little power. I'm going to throw new plugs and coils in tonight, but I called Mazda Canada and my engine is still barely under warranty till June 17, 2013.
Is there anywhere (dealer or not) you guys would recommend in the GTA for a compression test if the plugs/coils don't fix the problem? Also, has anyone or does anyone know of anyone on this forum getting an engine replaced at a GTA dealer? If it comes to that, I want it done right!
Thanks guys! Sorry for the long-winded post.

I've spoken to others that have had the test and engine replacement done at Scarborough Mazda and they also only charged them 1 hours labour for the comp test.

I had mine done at Avanti. I only had 200 km of warranty left. I had to pay for the compression test but if it failed the cost would be refunded. Note getting the compression test done anywhere but a dealer is a waste of money beyond your own knowledge, Mazda will only accept their own testing.

I had my engine replaced under warranty in september. (mine had 145,xxx kms on it) Mazda has to do the compression test to verify the compression, if it fails they will need the service history. eg. oil changes just to make sure that the oil and filter has been changed every 8000km. I had to pay for the compression test and the oil and filter on the new engine (rebuilt by mazda canada) cost me some where around $300 including tax. I had mine done at Whitby Mazda.

When I initially called Whitby Mazda they tried to tell me it was 1.5 hrs labour but I told them that it is impossible for it to take that long and I had heard of others only paying 1hr labour at other dealers. After that the service advisor said she double checked and it is only 1hr labour.

I told the service advisor that I know it only takes 30 minutes or less. He kept trying to tell me that it's an extensive test and takes up to 2.5hrs. I assured him that I know it takes only 30 minutes and I even told him that I had one done in a parking lot that took less than 30 minutes.
They were unwilling to budge on the fee. My only option is to speak with the service manager and see if he'll do anything.

Here's the procedure from the workshop manual.
Print it out and show him.

It also looks like I did our parking lot compression tests not exactly the same.
They remove a plug from both sides and do the test.
I did it one at a time. Mmmmmm I wonder how this changes things?

Ugh this is such a hassle to get our cars compression tested, 2 hours you got to be kidding me, did you tell them Whitby only charged an hour labor?
Maybe 2 hours is Compression test, then Zoom Cleaning and then another compression test?

I told him. He kept saying the tech was telling him it takes up to 2.5hrs as its a very comprehensive test procedure which is why it takes so long.
I already cancelled my second test at Whitby Mazda and I'll be speaking with the general manager on Monday to see about getting the first test refunded.

She asked why I didn't want to do it at Whitby and I told he I didn't fell comfortable with their Rotary knowledge and that everyone recommended Scarborough. She kinda chuckled then talked to a tech and said they'll do the whole warranty process and get things rolling.
I'm gonna bring my Whitby compression test with me and see if they'll take it and just start with the Zoom cleaning, but if not then they can do everything from scratch, there is no saving this engine.
