no not all 04s are GTs. GT was the premo package from 04 to 08. Your car could still be the base sport model.

r3 only exists in 09 10 and is considered the "top" trim although thats a matter on preference because the GT is virtually the same cost and has more creature comforts.

now do me a favor and dont post anymore in this thread and if you have anymore questions stop...think....and search

if you got a 04 and you wonder what trim between gs and gt you got is easy, if you have leather its a gt if not gs, those are not the only difference but its a easy way to compare.

mscamp02's comments apply to US cars, as will most of the threads you will find if you do a search.

2004 (and other years too, at least 2005 but maybe all the way up to 2008) in canada came in two specifications, GS and GT. As aim9 indicated, the easy way to tell is that all GS have cloth seats, all GT have leather.

Other differences:
-GT have DSC/TC
-Both GS and GT have limited slip differential, for manual transmission cars. For automatics, only the GT has limited slip.
-GT has Xenon headlights
-GT has heated front seats
-Sunroof is available only on GT. Most GTs have this option, but there are a few GT cars with no sunroof.
-Navigation system was only available on the GT, and only if you also took the sunroof option.

While we're on the topic, a few other differences in US vs. CDN cars
-All CDN cars have headlight washers, US cars don't have this.
-US cars have TPMS, CDN cars don't
-Colour combos were more limited in Canada. In the US, it was possible to get two-tone leather with a number of exterior colours, but in Canada, all we got was brown/black with Titanium grey exterior and red/black with Red exterior (this applies to 2004-2005, not sure about other years.) All other exterior colours got you a black leather interior. Conversely, you could NOT get a black leather interior if you got a GT in grey or red - it only came with the two-tone.
-If you got a GS, there was only one interior colour scheme - grey on black.

If you have the V8 that is the R3 (although rare this was an option in 2004). Check the number of your exhaust pipes the V8s usually came with a dual exhaust. Glad you have done some research on the car.

yes typing getting sloppy. getting tired. been on this site for four hours now and my eyes are getting heavy. the car seems great. the braking and handling really impressed me. i also have a 1997 mustang GT with updated eibach suspension and 20 inch wheels. the 8 makes it look silly in the handling and braking department. i worked for Mazda from 1991 till 1993 and drove a few RX7s. they were definately cool.

Mine is a 2005 GS, MT. In fact, it is my second 2005 GS, MT I leased the first one new, and after returning it at the end of the lease I missed it enough that I started looking around for another one.

Nice to hear you're enjoying the new ride, welcome to the club!
