interesting, it's true the 350z is really over priced here imho, it's like 10k more then the RX-8, and the 8 seats 4 and their close in performance

^^^.if you think the 350Z is overpriced.. you should visit a honda dealership...the S2000 is just plain ridiculous. in $$$ terms...$50K+!! for a 4 banger!!

350 is fairly priced in comparison with the S2000, but if it was closer to the 8s price i would have jumped on it without a doubt!! :p

The S2000 sales are dismal. Honda will kill it soon. I'll post some when I get a few minutes.

Strange how I seem to see many more 350's and G35 coupes on the road than I do RX-8's.

2 reasons i can think of, well, 3:

- they arent rotary
- they have been around longer
- mazda is seen more a 'family car' company (at least around here it is)

I understand that but just looking at those numbers, the RX8 has sold twice as many in 2005 than the 350 and probably about the same as the G35 coupe. So the only point above that is relevant is that it's been around longer. When did the 350 first come, was it just 2003 or was it earlier than that ?

i could only guess, but i would think a couple of years more... and again, cuz its not a rotary engine, people are more apt to go for that... makes the 8 more 'exclusive' :D

Actualy guys, the S2000 is well priced if you realize it is a convertible. The 350z conv is more expensive than the S2000 so is anything else that competes (boxter/Z4/Slk 350)

Look at the 2 cars though, north and south:

S2k US = $30k USD
S2k CDN = $50k CDN

RX8 US = $30k USD (w/leather)
RX8 CDN = $40k CDN (w/leather)

Hard to see that the S2k is well priced up here... the S2k's price was determined when the exchange rates were closer to 1.55, whereas the RX8 was introduced much later when the currency had shifted (hence the major price disparity)

I agree we are getting hosed as it is cheaper in the US. But Honda has no reason to reduce the price in Canada. The market is too small and there is nothing comparable cheaper.

Some may cross shop them, but they aren't really the same type of car, conv vs hardtop, 4 seater vs 2 seater. Quiet VS raw.

Forget about the US, there is nothing in Canada cheaper, It would be a STEAL at $40k! If Porsche or BMW or Nissan lowered their cars to $40k for the conv, I suspect Honda might follow or dump the car up here.

Don't get me wrong - I LOVE THE S2000.

It was my only point (that we're getting hosed up here).

Honda also charges more in Canada in order to prevent cross-border shopping. there was something i read about that. a lot of americans coming here to buy for cheaper (when the dollar was worth a lot less)

imma see if i can find it again...

well there is nothing stopping us Canadians from cross border shopping, most warrenties are transferable but you will have to pay 6% duty

US MSRP 26875 USD *1.06*1.2 = 34185 CAD
CAD MSRP 37000 CAD

difference = 2815 - 400 (misc import fees) = 2400 = probably not worth the trouble

if the difference is like 4000 like on some other cars it would be worth while

the 350Z is a little bit more.. because its a totally different car... the S2000 is very underpowered for its price.. that where i see the drawback..

the Z4 and SLK 350.. are in a different league, they have more potent engines and have tons more "amenities" than the S2000. and you paying for the bavarian names...

i look at the S2000 and have a tendency to compare it to the new miata :p
