2007 rx8 gt
Hey guys,
Is $13,500 CAD a good price for a 2007 RX8 GT, good engine (compression check done), interior is good, exterior is good, no problems with anything that I can see? I'm just trying to think ahead of time, in 2 years I forsee the the car losing value dramatically to something like $9000, is this true? Only thing I can see is a MINOR accident where the rx8 was rear-ended by a car going at less than 5km/hr, which left a small scuff that was repaired by insurance, the repair was < $1000 covered by insurance
Also, is it worthwhile waiting till winter time to buy one of these since they are usually cheaper then?
Any input would be appreciated.
EDIT: 67,000 KMs

15 years from now maybe, if we're all lucky and still have our 8's.

You cannot critically appraise a vehicle without regard to its mileage. Furthermore, do you have a $ amount on the accident history? Was there structural damage? $13,500 can be a rip off or "reasonable" depending on how the vehicle is. It will depreciate stupidly (relative to other makes) as well - so if you're going to jump aboard be prepared (The only good thing is, you lose a lot less money when you buy used versus suckers like me who bought new).

Sorry, forgot to include the kms. Car has 67,000km, there was no structural damage to the car, it was hit less at less than 5 km/hr, repair was less than $1000.
I used to have an RX8 so I know that the price will drop but just wanted your input. I don't want to sell the car for more money down the road, that's not the point of getting the car. I want the car so I can have fun with it, but at the same time I just wanted to know your input about how much it will depreciate in the coming years. I can see 2004s selling for $7000-$9000 with decent kms.

You can get similar cars with over 20 grand in upgrades for the same price. Have you looked around closely for comparables?

I don't want to go with anything below 2007 because of engine warranty. I sold my previous RX8 because the warranty was up. I know I can find cheaper RX8s that have a ton of mods but they either have more km or are older. 2005 means the warranty is about to expire which I don't want. 2007 seems like where I want to be.

Based on a quick comparison on Autotrader I would say it is likely a pretty good deal.
As for depreciation, I don't think it's a big concern anymore. You have a car that sold for ~$50k+tax=~$60k new. It's 5-6 years old and has ~3 years of driving on it and it's selling for a quarter of it's original value. These are still cars that get looks and comments, they are still somewhat desirable. I've noticed that the rate of RX-8 depreciation seems to slowed down as they arrive at a certain age. When I bought my 2006 3.5 years ago I paid a few grand more than this car. I think depreciation of say <$2k per year is pretty decent and normal given age range I've owned the car.

I remember seeing 47k$ for the fully loaded GT on the mazda.ca website at some point. Might have been the S2 by then, I remember thinking it funny that the R3 was cheaper than the GT ... but anyway, with tax you're up in the 55k range. Tack on an "extended" warranty or some similar dealer nonsense, and I bet Mazda suckered at least a few rich folk into paying 60000$ at some point in the car's history.
Just think, it might have been the very car you now drive today! :D
