Recieved today rx8 book
Recieved rx8 commemorative book ,it contains info ondesign ,developmentand engineering information all 191 pages .Malcolm Cough head honcho from mazda australia has verified australian cars getting euro spec cars 177kw at 8200 and 211nm at 5500, lowering previous specs by 7kw at 8500 rpm and 5nm at 216 nm, loosing 7kw and 5nm ??? NOT REALLY HAPPY . Official sale date 1st of august but they are hopingthat some cars will be available for deliveryin mid to late july. For pre order customers invitations to exclusive drive event around mid july Also they are giving us a present of a limited edition rotary key, colour coded to match your rx8,key willeven start rx8once it has been cut and coded specifically to your rx8 .Nice to hear from mazda head office ,but id rather have my 7KW AND 5NM EXTRA POWER ,and be happy with out rx8 key and rx8 book .Also i would prefer my two toned leather in terior yellow and black .Anyhow the test drive will answer all my question s re rx8 performance and handling etc . I believe that an after market chip can be available to get increase of power back to 184 kw at 8500 rpm and to 216 nm at5800 rpm .LONG LIVE THE ROTARY REVOLUTION. 50 AND GETTING YOUNGER

Here's my first post... yes, I got my book today as well, and have been reading... pretty cool. Makes up for some of the "where the hell is Mazda" feeling I've been having...

I posted my first post the other day and everyone ignored me.
Any who...... How long did it take from date of order to get your book?
Or are they sending out all the pre-ordered customers one now?

Must admit I'm not too worried about the European engine... really don't think it will make much real difference to the feel of driving the car... also I'm hoping to enjoy more than just the straight line performance.

I must say that it isnt the fact that I am concerned about a lack of power in the car. It is that I placed a 5% non refundable deposit on a car with certain specs and now these have been revised downward.

Yeah. I also received the book yesterday morning including the letter from Mazda Australia HQ. The thing that I have realised is that the rep I ordered my car through really doesn't seem to know anything about the production or delivery dates (or he's just making stuff up).
He's been telling me since January that my car would be here in July.....revised it to June about a month ago.....and more recently told me that it is delayed until August. Yet the covering letter with the book, which is signed by Malcolm Gough (Managing Director) clearly states that some cars, presumably the very first pre-orders (which mine is) will be available for delivery in mid to late July. It's not professional and certainly not very encouraging.
As for the confirmed drop in power..... well realistically, is it really going to make a difference ? Unless you want to drive around like Schumacher all the time, the restrictions of traffic congestion, traffic lights and speed limits means that it'll be a rare occurance to stretch the RX-8 to it's limits anyway. I drive a reasonably powerful car now, which allows me to overtake easily whenever I want to....to pull away from the lights fast enough if I feel like it. But I am happy knowing that even with the drop in power of the RX-8, it will still have significantly more power and less weight than my current car, meaning that it is going to be one excellent and fun automobile. I just wish it was here now !
