I love driving around Tassie. Have driven just about every navigable road (in a street car) on the apple isle.

Next time I go down and catch up with my relo's I'll be taking the boat and the Eight.

Cheers... Otto

This Sunday we will be at Winton. I will take some pics for you to drool over and dreamt about for Oct. We will definitely be field tripping in Benalla. There are some target accommodation sites in Benalla that we would like to visit. Perheps take some pic and show the quality.

Stay tune.

BTW this weekend is long weekend. Hurray ^^

No I think Glenn apperance is an asset!

When more experience people coming, it will encourage more and more first timer to join. Since we will have more people at hand to them how to enjoy the dynamics of the car....

This is not a free plug ("dynamics") but we are also planning to have qualified instructors on site. So it is a driver education day as much as a RX-8 festival. More details coming.

Had our 3rd track day organised yesterday. Thanks to Stu, Dannielle and the OzRenesis team, the day ran smoothly.

Me did my PB... (note to Glenn.... 1.42.3 )

We also went for a excursion to Benalla on the way home. Trekker Rest is where Andrew stay and trail on their bed for the night, and he will report back his personal experience later. He still gather the thought of overheating his Renesis on Sunday.

I went around the block and the place is ok. A few huts painted yellow (god forbids) and plenty of parking surrounds and it will good for the touch of our different colours of RX-8.

What I heard is there is 2 types of accom. One is dom style and cheaper, one is apartment style and more expensive.

But we are still talking about under $50 per person per night for 2 night minimum.

If we have 40 people (not cars - people). We can have the whole place to ourselves, but Andrew will give us the max number that Trekker rest will hold.

For luxury, down the road (about 1km to city centre) is top of town motel and it is 4 star for people who aim luxury over togetherness.

info on trekkers rest

Taka,
1:42.3 - I thought you were running R compound (?)
I would say Top of The Town still gets my vote as there is an expansive bar and a very spacious restaurant where we can get together and tell tall stories as well as conduct our "bonding" sessions.
Just a thought - comments?

Yeah keep rubbing in mate. I have a reference time from Motor mag on a stock car driven by a pro (btw it is 1.44.62).

Top of the town is extremely nice. But last time I check they have 13-14 rooms. The owners will welcome us with both arms. We will sit together....

I think the liberty of people's own accom arrangment if one booked and a few recommendations is better. How does this sound?

Any more thought will be highly welcome.

We need to hear what Andrew has to say about the inside first.

Congratulations Taka I have always thought these cars could do a 1:42 NA with the right conditions. Now that my cars is run in (remember it had only done 1000kms last time) I will have to have a crack at running 42's.

Ill give it a fair go at the nats. Might even buy some new semi slicks

Top of the Town has 22 rooms, but no bar or restaurant. There are a few good restaurants close by and a really good pub. It is by far the best accomadation in Benalla with lots of good off street parking. Ill be staying there anyway

Damn Rod! That's almost talkative for the likes of you.

I'm staying wherever you and Len are going to be. We'll be the minority this time in a wild and dangerous land. Gotta stick together.

I have not been a Winton day that is not 30 degree plus and dirty. Should we get some brooms for Revolver to sweep the racing line the night before the Nats? Oct can be very warm. But at least it was not 35. Weather normally good and cool in the morning. So bring a jacket.

I have to check with DavidM on the stock tyres time. He seems to know who does what time. Can you show us some link? I want to know who does that. I need to learn from him/her. DavidM knows the track inside out and has knowledge of different weather conditions. Somehow I thought he lives there.

If Kevin McConville (*who I believe drove the stock 8 for motor at the time) around Winton for 1.44.62. I really want to see how to do a low 44. It will be interesting.

I am sure I still a second somewhere , whether it is in me or not I . Yes I know I am cheating with R spec and suspension. Tough luck

It is just all this talk about time but the good thing about the track is that it is very safe and it is a lovely track for first timer to learn on. I don't see there is a way you will hit the wall. Plus, as I said before, planning to have instructors there to tell you what NOT to do.

Should be fun. Hope the weather hold up.

All these talk get me excited - bring me there now!

OK guys here is the GO.

TotT holds 35 people at the absolute most (From memory as they never send me the info I keep asking for). Most rooms are a queen with 1 or 2 singles. Its a very nice place and priced to match. It simply will not hold everyone. For food we would need to head to a local restaurant/eatery.

The Trekkers Rest while not the most appealing looking place is cheap, clean, will hold everyone in one place, has an area for and will allow us to rock on until all hours of the night/day, allows us to have very nice meals cooked for us on site and is priced "around: the $100 mark for 2 nights including 1 dinner and 2 breakies. I would put the standard of the place as just a slight step down from Wakefield.

I think that if we cant get 40 people then TotT is the go, but if we get that many or more then Trekkers rest.

Lets hear it then.
