Feras 09-13-2006, 11:46 AM talk amongst yourselves about it...some dealers still dont even believe it when you tell them theres a Z4 coupe...heres the M coupe

Japan8 09-13-2006, 12:24 PM The return of the shoe...
Jedi54 09-13-2006, 12:33 PM hideous...
Feras 09-13-2006, 12:35 PM to each their own...that thing is pure sex and runs circles around our car to boot.
saturn 09-13-2006, 12:42 PM to each their own...that thing is pure sex and runs circles around our car to boot.
You got the part about "boot" right. Haha, I love puns.
In truth, I like the M coupes infinitely more than the dinky roadsters.
bascho 09-13-2006, 12:43 PM It's ugly IMO....but I watched a test drive on SPEED channel (don't remember which program) and that thing hauls ass. The M coupe is a perfect example of function over form. It's definitely no worse looking than the last gen M coupe.
lesper4 09-13-2006, 12:45 PM i actually like that model but yes most are ugly especially the z3 coupe but that m4 is delicious
Mandy 09-13-2006, 12:48 PM My boyfriend (or ex now. whatever he is...) has the Z3 M coupe. I love it.
I'll miss it :(
Not liking the Z4 shoe so much..
Japan8 09-13-2006, 12:53 PM I thought so too... until I saw it at the last Tokyo Motorshow. It's better looking in person... actually kinda hot. Again until... I looked at the M6. Now THAT car is pure sex...
Rhawb 09-13-2006, 01:04 PM I like it. Not sure why, as I usually don't like cars that are terribly crazy looking, but it's got a certain aura of awesome about it. I'd drive one.
Feras 09-13-2006, 01:12 PM in real life looking at it, its strikingly small, very short both in height and length. I like it much better than the previous M Hatchback.
dtorre 09-13-2006, 01:16 PM Saw a M6 Cabriolet the other day....friggin ugly....bmw & Lexus = the uglies
longfury 09-13-2006, 01:40 PM I think I saw that same car up there in May. If not there is more than 1 running around up there.
Japan8 09-13-2006, 02:10 PM Saw a M6 Cabriolet the other day....friggin ugly....bmw & Lexus = the uglies
Convertible doesn't work on the 6 Series/M6. Looks a bit ugly to me too. But hardtop... the M6 is so sexy... I'd even take a regular 6 Series...
BlueEyes 09-13-2006, 02:26 PM Looks sick. I'd love one if it weren't for the fact that I could get a corvette for the same dough.
DemonRX-8 09-13-2006, 02:43 PM 6 Series convertible doesn't work? Are you kiddiing me? That's one of the sweetest rides our there! My brother has a 645 coupe and you wouldn't believe the attention that thing gets . . . and it's not even the M!
The Z4 M coupe is one of the few cars I would consider to replace my 8.
BlueSky 09-13-2006, 03:03 PM Funny, I'm looking at maybe buying a used 1999 M coupe. I like the look on the prev. gen more than the new gen.
Here's a pic of the old gen M coupe: http://www.cartype.com/images/page/bmw-M-coupe_FS2.jpg
They look even meaner in person.

There is not a single BMW that looks attractive in their current lineup. They have all been banglified. The new 3-series looks about as exciting as a Camry, the 5-series went from elegant sexiness to drabness, and the 6 and 7 series look like bloated oil tankers. The classiness of the old BMW lineup is lost.

I agree with most of what you say....but I really like the new 335i.
BlueSky 09-13-2006, 03:18 PM ^^^It definitely looks better than the rest of the lineup. But still, it can't touch the E46 M3 or the old M5, in my opinion, for looks. Those two cars are gorgeous.
bascho 09-13-2006, 03:20 PM Convertible doesn't work on the 6 Series/M6. Looks a bit ugly to me too. But hardtop... the M6 is so sexy... I'd even take a regular 6 Series...
I agree with Japan8 on this one. The M6 is not my favorite BMW.....but the coupe version definitely looks better than the vert. I think it's the front-end that kills it for me with the 6-series....and the Z4 series for that matter.
XDEEDUBBX 09-13-2006, 03:21 PM it looks great. I still like the previous one. I wouldn't mind having it either..

whacha doing this weekend :naughty:
skillmaker 09-13-2006, 04:22 PM So, it runs rings around the RX? Hmmm... And at only $13,000 dollars more! Hey, that's a heck of a deal (sarcasm intended).
Mid-range pricing for a Z4 coupe is around $44,000.
mac11 09-13-2006, 04:28 PM the top and rear remind me of a 350Z
otherside 09-13-2006, 04:33 PM Ugly and heavy toad...
sunilseru 09-13-2006, 04:48 PM Saw a black one in person about a month back - at my local BMW dealer. They were asking 66K (red tag sale). :)
It is a beauty!

JRichter 09-13-2006, 05:42 PM I like both shoes (Z3 based M Coupe and Z4 based M Coupe). The ass of the Z3 based M coupe represents a brutal display of power complete with flared rear haunches housing wide meaty tires and quad pipes burbling raw power.
I agree with whoever earlier in the thread that BMW has gone the wrong way with some of their designs.
current gen 7 series - botched
current gen 5 series - botched (not as bad, but the prev. gen. in M5 form was best)
current gen 3-series - looks good and looking foward to seeing the next M3
current Z4 - I like it and think it looks modern and fresh (F retro design)
current 6-series - acceptable but not as great design as the previous 80's 6-series
X3 and X5 - arn't bad for SUVS
My favorite BMW styling is the cars from the mid 70's through the late 80's (complete with inverted front ends and 4 round lights) with 3.0 CSL topping the list.

I agree, BMWs from the 80's are by far the most handsome out of Bavaria. Funny how there is a consensus that current cars from BMW, Toyota/Lexus are lacking something with their styling.
Personally, I think the line up from Mazda and Infiniti/Nissan are the best looking. The new G35 Sedan is super hot and hauls ass too!
canaryrx8 09-14-2006, 12:46 AM I'm very close to trading my car in for one of those (we're talking millimeters) actually, some folks don't like the Bangle designs on the beemers, but I really dig the Z4 coupe and the new 3 series actually. I'm giving my ride one last hurrah with the recall stuff and with the bodyshop and just trying to get it "right", if after all this mess I'm still miserable every day I'm either going with another newer 8 (maybe even an MT), or I'm going to Z4 coupe/new turbo 3, it gets really old paying a car note every month and being unhappy, and I'm to the point now where things are going to have to change or I'm going to say f it and get a 500 dollar shitcan and be done with cars for a while, or splurge on something I've always dreamed of owning. (ie; beemer, C6, maybe I'll get an early start on my dream resto rod and go finance enough money to buy a beater and build it into a monster, there's also the NSX, Lotus Espirit, older ferrari, Porsche, something, anything, as long as I'm happy with it)

I agree with those sentiments too.
The 5 Series is the worst offender in my book. I wouldn't even consider buying an M5 (if I could afford it) because of this. And pricing... don't get me started.
The current 3 Series... it's a let down after the e46. The interior is uninspiring and the side profile looks bloated. The Coupe looks long. The price is freaking nuts.
Z4/ Z4 Coupe... they're ok. Look better in person, but... not really my thing.
I like the new Audi TT and Shooting Brake Concept better. The S4 and RS4 I also like better than the e90 3 Series.
The 6 Series and M6... I've seen a few here and they look dead sexy in black. but then again... what car doesn't?

the problem with your 8 is that you have an AT. You shoudl have researched and found out that you lose the upper 1/3rd of the rev range and that is where it makes its power.
I love it. I'll take that over a Cayman any day.
canaryrx8 09-14-2006, 09:32 AM the problem with your 8 is that you have an AT. You shoudl have researched and found out that you lose the upper 1/3rd of the rev range and that is where it makes its power.
no the problem is not my AT, and I'm REALLY sick of people talking like it's 1925 in regards to automatics. The transmission technology we have nowadays has narrowed the gap immensely, there are several cars out there that come in both trims, and the auto is actually faster than the manual on some. I researched this car pretty heavily, I drive 20 miles + to and from work every day and never get to touch 3rd gear on most days, since this is my only car do you really think I'd want to fight a clutch in that shit day in and day out? I purposely picked the auto, I got a screaming deal on it, and I have no problems keeping up with the MTs on our club drives, and we don't exactly flowerpuff our way through the twisties etc. on those runs. If I get another car, and that's a big if, it will be an auto too.
The REAL problem is that my car has been pummeled by hail one year (do a search for hail damage and you'll find my thread) and was never fixed right after that, when I took it back to say wtf??!!, they half assed it and on top of that, made me pay them 100 bucks they said I originally owed them and they "forgot" to charge me, on top of me paying for my own rental while they fixed their f-ups.
Now we have this year, driving my normal daily rush hour hell, I get hit behind HARD by some kid and pushed into 3 other vehicles, I leave the scene with a drivable car but it's making noises, it's driving like shit, and it's now beat to hell once again and it wasn't even fixed right originally to begin with. Add to that I get hail damage later on that day, same f-in day, and you can see where this crap might get on someone's nerves. So the next shop does okay, but they take 2 months, do an average job, and when I get it back it still drives like shit. It's been 2 years plus now where my car has been jacked up all due to other people or mother nature, and I've had it. I had a similar experience with my previous vehicle, a heavily modded mini-truck (minus airbags) that kept getting hit, kept breaking, I spent practically every weekend either under it or under the hood fixing something, then it got broken into etc etc etc. This is why I'm looking at new cars, maybe needing a fresh start or just needing to buy a piece of shit and stop trying for a while. This has absolutely nothing to do with my choice in transmission and everything to do with being hammered over the head for 2 f-in years on a car I dearly love that nobody in this town can seem to repair/fix/whatever to average standards, much less mine.

Mr. RX 09-14-2006, 03:40 PM thats the profile of the car so i give it the benifit of the doubt, still have to see it all around. one thing i wish that the rx8 would be the same in, is that it can hold the book value as well as a bmw, cause they suck when it comes down to it.

yea it looks like the 8 is a car you should plan on having for a loooooong time to make it worth having. Keep it, drive it and enjoy it because you are going to end up upside down on it if you try to get out of it. Thats a shame cuz its such a great car.

Hrm, the current 5-series really has a great exterior design. When i first saw it, i wasn't really sold on it, but as i continued to see it, i became more able to appreciate it. Designs like that are hard to come by...most cars have somewhat shallow esthetics.
Maybe you're just too tied to the boxy bimmers of old? Nothing wrong with nostalgia, but progress is a good thing. Or maybe i'll be crabbing on a message board in 30 years claiming how the 2036 5-series design sucks compared to the 2006!
Haha.
BlueEyes 09-14-2006, 05:16 PM Personally, I love the new BMW's. They stand out and they look aggressive. There's no confusing a BMW with a hyundai to me. I like the fact that they take chances with their styling.

BlueEyes 09-14-2006, 06:05 PM Ha. Im saying when a BMW goes by, I look at it. When a Mercedes or Audi goes by, it might as well just be a hyundai because it doesnt attract my eye. They look dull, and safe. The audis are getting a little better on the front, but they still just look like every other sedan from the coporate nose back. Its boring.
And why the hell does my apostrophe key bring up my search function on this site!! so thats why there are no apostrophies in that post. If you wondering.
canaryrx8 09-14-2006, 06:06 PM that is some shitty luck but nothing a new car is going to change. Find a shop that can do the work right? Idunno thats about the only suggestion i can come up with.
a new car would give me a fresh start at least, despite it keeping me in debt longer it would actually be less stressful than trying to get my car right. The down side is it might give me a whole new set of problems too though.
I've tried several different shops (counting ones including my previous vehicle) and nobody in this town (and I'm sure elsewhere) does it right any more, they just do it fast as they get paid regardless of the quality of their work. I guess I get spoiled watching overhaulin' on tv where they build show quality in 1 week, and these people around here can't even get it back to "normal" in 2 months. There's nothing to make them accountable it seems, sure they have a warranty etc. but what good is that when it's still wrong afterwards? Oh well, I'm really not one to give up easily so I'll probably stick it out and make this work somehow, just not sure how yet lol :Eyecrazy:
BlueSky 09-14-2006, 06:08 PM Basically, in the early 2000's BMW reached the peak of its styling. All the cars looked top-notch (except for the Z3). There was nowhere to go from there, but down...
BlueEyes 09-14-2006, 06:28 PM You're entitled to your opinion, I suppose.
Moostafa29 09-14-2006, 08:51 PM Not a big fan, but my friend is in love with it. I'll have to show him the pics when I get a chance.

Maybe you're just too tied to the boxy bimmers of old? Nothing wrong with nostalgia, but progress is a good thing. Or maybe i'll be crabbing on a message board in 30 years claiming how the 2036 5-series design sucks compared to the 2006!
Haha.
I think I am "too tied to the boxy bimmers of old." Decades of mere evolutions in design with BMW is kinda what I expect from not only BMW but all the German automakers (by far my favorite designs). Something about the conservative, utilitarian look of VW's, Audi's, and BMW's appeals to me for some reason.
I don't think the current 5-series is at all ugly or hideous, but I can't label it as a perfect exterior design like I could the previous 3 or 4 generations. Every once in a while I see like a '85 of '86 5-series and think "wow that car has timeless styling and perfect proportions even after all these years." I might think differently years from now about the current 5-series.
I never fully liked M-B styling throughout the last 20 years or so, but really like some of its most recent designs (new S-series sedan for ex.)
I think Audi has got it going on right now, also. I think the styling is understated/conservative at first glance, but in person the design is striking and commands a presence. A recent A4 or A6 sticks out like a sore thumb among a bunch of drab looking cars when spotted on the road. And when I saw the RS4 in person at a car show I nearly fainted.
I agree with Japan8 about the Audi TT Shooting Brake Concept. They should build that for sure.
I left out one current BMW (not sold in US) that I have to admit I kinda like. It's another shoe! The BMW 135i is apealling to me for some reason. Something about a RWD small hatch with an I6 excites me. The episode of either Top Gear of Fifth Gear where they compared a 1-series to the R32 sold me on that even though in the real world pricewise I would have to go for the cheaper R32.

Japan8 09-15-2006, 01:33 PM What ruins the 5 Series are those ugly ass "eyebrows" on the headlights. The 6 Series does away with these which cleaned the front end up alot. With the wider stance... the M6 is just plain old hot.
The new M Coupe and Z4 Coupe... I do like them... i actually liked the old shoe too. My orthopedist that worked on my leg last summer has one. He likes to race rally and is planning on trading it in on the new GTR. :D:
The 1 Series... you see a number of them in Tokyo. I like them... particularly the 135 M Sport. Although for the money and performance... A JDM Euro/German car mag picked the R32 over it... if I remember correctly they said it not only handled better, but was faster too (definitely had a better lap time). Either way... this is a car BMW needs to bring to the US... the Mazdaspeed 3 (and sales of the Mazda3), GTI and Caliber SRT-4 should tell them that there is a market for hot hatches... they just need the right pricing.

Agreed.
Umbra 09-15-2006, 03:14 PM reminds me of an old jaguar in styling
BlueEyes 09-15-2006, 03:29 PM Reminds me of a lot of the old coupes. Long hood and a roofline that flows into the rear. I love it.
