Sweet, now all the kids who only think GTR is like the best car in the world, will not be able to afford it, unless their mom and pops pay for it

 

I still don't consider that a Skyline...I don't think Nissan does either....it's simply a GT-R

 

um... this number is actually a lot cheaper than the previous estimates of 70k by autoweek, motortrend and nissannews.com... i mean its going to have pretty much almost the exact same specs in terms of weight, power and torque, as the 997 twin turbo that just came out. 997 tt pretty much matches the new Z06 in 0-60 and 1/4 mile (due to AWD traction) , and gets left behind by the Z06 after 120mph. I just find it kind of hard to believe that a japanese import that has Z06 performance would start less than a Z06.? well i hope autoweek is right, 60k is reasonably affordable, only 5k more than the new M3, but in a higher performance class

 

expect Nissan-quality interior for that price though

 

Skylines were never that WOW in the interior to bigging with. But since that is something similar priced sports car have (luxury interiro) Nissan might do something about it.

This car might have a MSRP of $60k but is the dealer mark up that sucks, I will not be surprised that you will see them for $80k.

 

so they should have Z06-like or Viper-like interior then.... very fancy i guess...

and i doubt in this day and age ANY sane consumer will EVER buy any car for above-msrp markups, people know the true value of a car now, thanks to teh interweb

 

At 80K, it's not an option for me.

At 60K, I'll damn well figure something out.

 

Infiniti is pissed because the G-35 was supposed to be the "new" Skyline, now Nissan got thier hands on it.

 

Why would they be? The next gen G35 will undoubtedly share a platform and components with the GT-R just like it does now.

 

Go to a land rover dealership, I went there to check them out and the MSRP was $75K then added another $20K for mark up. the funny thing is that it is labble "Dealer Mark Up $20,000".

 

what dealer put on a sheet of paper doesn't mean people will actually fall for that sh*t

 

I don't undertand why they would be upset. Infiniti's are Nissan upscale cars with new badging.No such thing as Infiniti in Japan , just like no such thing as Lexus, there just the upper models of Toyota. Wether the Gt-R fall under the Nissan plate, it shouldn't matter to them, G35 are selling like hot cakes, the M35/45 are doing status quo, they need to be crying to Nissan of Japan to redesign a new flagship sedan for them , the Q has died every generation its been out and yet they keep bringing it back to life with Ho-hum looks and to much technical garbage with the package that nobody is intrested in.

They need a Power Sedan desperately that is going to stir the market.....most people in that range are going to be looking at BMW 740i's and E600 Merc posibly base S500's.
Not some techno-garbage rolling on 4 wheels.....thats where there fustrations need to be focused at. Because right now Infiniti flagship is below the status quo mark!

That car's a joke for anything over 40k, imo. But then paying 36k for a loaded G35c is a joke as well.

That's because Japan is being Americanized. Brands are becoming far more important in terms of status like here in the states. It's actually sad to watch as I think they had the right idea. Toyota will begin to lose it's identity in Japan just like Ford has here in the states. Ford has clear brand idenity in most other world markets which don't get the Mercury and Lincoln versions. It's not really Toyota's fault though......the culture in Japan is obviously becoming more 'western'.

 

That doesn't make sense. It shares its platform with the Z not the GT-R.

 

IMO, the G35 is selling because it IS the current Skyline. With Nissan selling a "real" GT-R, why would anyone want to spend money on a heavier version of the Z?

 

I thought the current Nissan Skyline GT350 was an Infinity G35C? I am not an authority on Japanese market vehicles.......but I've seen photos of the test mule GT-R and Nissan used a GT350/G35C. Now I know that is not the body design that is coming to market......but obviously all the GT-R drivetrain components fit in the G35C platform. That tells me that the two cars share a platform.

I could be wrong though so don't use me for an authority on Nissan cars.

 

^^ you are correct.. the infinity G35C here in the states is the Nissan skyline GT350 in Japan... same car... so the next generation GT350 in Japan will be ike the G35C here in the states... the GTR is a different car in relation to the GT350

 

its actually a whole new platform from the current G35, it shares platform with the next gen G35. and Nissan is seperating the GT-R badge away from the skyline lineup. the Next gen G35 namely the 2007 G35 sedan thats coming out in a month and 1/2 and the 2006 G35 coupe will both share platform and parts with the GT-R.

 

Good to know i think i might be able to get my hands on one of those in shorter time then i though. Now woudl one think the GT-R would not be the next Skyline that like the MX-5 is not a miata They are the same things they just mess around with the names.

 

That's what I said.....the GT-R will share a platform with the next gen G35C which is why Infinity will hardly complain. I'm sure the GT-R will have many upgraded driveline components......but the platform will be shared.

 

Different in terms of sheet metal and driveline components.....the platform would be the same.

 

Just pointing it out, that **** still happens, whether they actually sell for that price, is another thing.
