Hey guys. Yesterday my car started to experience something very strange that I have not read about at all on this forum. I am hoping that someone has an explination.

When the car is stationary and it's in gear, the RPM will raise up 600 RPM from 880. This will happen in any gear so as I take it out of gear and put it back into any gear, the RPM's will go from 880 up to 1400 or more and then go back down. I can pretty much make this happen at will. It's really strange!

Does anyone know whats going on or have heard of this happening to anyone else?

I did run my car hard yesterday at the track (5 - 25 minute sessions in 105+ degree weather) and my car did overheat.

Change oil,check for loose connections,especially the vaccum tube to the gage.

Drive it for awhile tey behave differntly after track days.

Check the battery, mine got loose after the last event.

Anyone else have any feedback?

First of all, your rpm shouldnt drop to 600 at all. cuz thats already too low.

Your car "did" overheat ? Are you on stock radiator ?

Yup.. Stock radiator. The car overheat in 106 degree weather at the race track. Other cars were overheating as well. (G35's.. Mustangs) We all had heat issues..

Hmmm, there is a neutral switch on the gearbox that might be playing up. It can suffer failure due to high temps.

What do you mean by over heat?

did your Engine temp light come on?

I had no problem last year, same track temp was over 100 outside, and I do believe it was 105. But we had lot's of humidity too as it was raining in the desert that day and in Victorville.

Literally overheat. The engine temperture gauge got so far to the right, that it shut down power to my engine briefly.

Not a good thing on the track. :)

I would back off the page for a few corners and sure enough the engine temps came right down.

please- mine overheated. temp guage shot to the right steam out of the hood. and no coolant seal breakage. these engines are toughter than people ay

Neutral switch. I had the same thing happen to me and the dealer replaced the neutral switch to fix it.

Well I finally took my car into the dealership and sure enough it was the switch. I told them that others had reported it being the neutral switch, but they referred to it as the clutch switch...

Thankx for calming my nerves about all this!! I hate going to the dealership espeacilly now that my car is completely modified and has the int-x ems.

wow overheated in 105 degree weather after 30 minutes? ive run mine for 5 hours stop and go traffic and 90mph+ in 115 degrees and not a single problem >< i know its old but glad you got it fixed and no other problems

Does anyone have the part number for this neutral clucth / gearbox switch .

Keeping my footh down on the clucth on cold start stops this occurence happening , but i am getting sick of doing this so id better get it changed .

That's WOT/Partial throttle for 30 minutes in race conditions... very different than stop and go traffic. The moment that I slowed down my pace on the track it went back to normal operating tempertures.
