A few turbo questions?
A few turbo questions?
for people with turbos how noticable is the power increase and what are some of the problems you have run into with their engines like engine wear. and how long will a turbod engine last (people tell me they die twice as fast). im looking to get the ptp or a kit similar to that so any insight would be cool.
Okay. Yes, I'm happy with the performance - but I'm scared everytime I get into the car. The chance of a blown apex or coolant seal is increased. How do we get around inspection? Find a place that does it under the table, $100 and you're good to go.
I've had myne on for about 14 months now. It is a definite increase in power. Lets just say, there's very few stock cars under $60k I have problems beating in a 0-60 now. So far no reliability problems and I drive it every day to work, stores, and any where else I need to go. It's still to early to tell long term how the engine responds to boost though. In my opinion, even if I do cut the lifetime in half, I'm okay with that. If I get 60k out of the motor then I have no doubt it was worth it. The car is just so much more fun to drive with 300hp at the wheels.
The best part is pulling up next to some cocky *** in his expensive Porsche Cayman, in a stealth car that has a reputation for being slow. You can figure out what happens next!

^^ 2X.
I'm going on 18 months and more than 20k miles boosted. I use mine like Ryan does his (plus, I've driven mine across the country 3 times).
I'm planning on more like 80k or longer, however...

Well I can tell you I had a 1988 10th anniversary edition RX-7 with a stock turbo and had well over 120K with no engine problems what so ever (well until the fuel rail pressure regulator leaked fuel onto the turbo and cause a horrible engine compartment fire). I even had a compression test ran on it and it was still well within specs. I drove that car and I mean drove it. Given the fact that the compression ratio on the stock rotary is 10:1, I do not forsee any problems for sometime with adding the Greddy turbo; hence I have ordered me one for my 8. Unless you start tweaking the PSI up a bunch that is.
Here, let me misinterpret that on purpose for you. You leaked a fire into your engine compartment? Whatever were you doing taking a leak there? Silly fool.
Ah, the fun that is toying without helping.
