View Full Version : Broken Glovebox Handle Need Help Please
DOMINION 07-13-2006, 07:37 PM Hey guys my glovebox handle is broken and I need help on "get her done".
I dont know how bad it is right now, I have not had time to lay upside down and take a good look at it. So I hope I dont have to replace the complete door.
Tryed doing a search in the DYI section but nothing.
Thanks for the help guys,
-Gilbert
EyeBall Fixer...(o)(x) 07-13-2006, 08:16 PM Is the handle/button broken off the door?
Take so pix and post them.
dmc27 07-13-2006, 08:25 PM Is that something that can be replaced under warranty? The whole thing comes off easy enough. Once you open it, of course. Sorry.
Gilbert: "Could you replace my glove box?"
Mazda tech: "No, that's normal."
or maybe: "Sounds like a case of abuse."

Oh gawd, that's so . . . 1970s.
Why was the button pushed? And since you brought it up, how did you break it in the first place? That hooker got her F8ckMeRedPump heel caught in it, huh?
Is the new avi an unedited photo? Looks like an awesome pic - post it, please.
Razz1 07-15-2006, 12:38 AM You don't have to use the key to get into the trunk.
Just push the button on the remote.

I know this wonderful place that sells those gloveboxes that may be able to help you.
Paul. :)
MazdaManiac 07-15-2006, 11:50 AM Yeah, just get a new one from Paul. It takes all of 1 minute to replace.
You don't even need tools.
KJ238 07-15-2006, 12:50 PM i smell money being spent

just push the button on the remote.
I never actually tried it, but thought the button is a "kill switch" for the remote. Now if only I could remember to check when I go to my8. :smoker:
Winfree 07-16-2006, 12:49 PM Have you got comprehensive insurance? It might help cover the cost -
(How do you manage to have so many odd things happen to your car - it's like someone has this voodoo doll of it and keeps sticking pins in it!)

I did't have my valet key when I went to a casino down the street from where I live so I hit the "Kill switch" in the glove.

I dont know Win. Someone keyed my car too. Its just my luck is fucked I guess.
dmc27 07-17-2006, 10:35 AM I'm sure the insurance company would not want to do it this way, but it might be worth trying - get scratch & glove box done on same claim, so you don't have deductible applied twice.
Winfree 07-17-2006, 01:15 PM Keyed it too? Man people carry envy way too far!!!! I get scratches from trees and high brush - but that doesn't carry the pain of some one taking the time to deliberately cause what they know will be harm! Vegas is fun, but maybe you can take your skills to a Chumash casino in California and get away from some of the riff-raff.....
Did insurance cover the keying?
DOMINION 07-17-2006, 10:39 PM My car ins. wants me to pay the $500 so looks like I'll be doing a out of pocket on this one. Anyone know of a DYI for my glove box? Thanks,
-Gilbert
dmc27 07-18-2006, 09:09 AM Pulling the glove box is extremely easy. It is "detailed" in the OEM footwell lamp instructions if you really need something to look at.
1. Open glove box - let hang
2. There is a "sliding arm" clip on right side that pops off the side of box. This little arm is probably the only piece you could actually break - but you would have to have clumsy meat hooks for hands to do so.
3. push in top, rear corners (farthest into dash) - there is a small "catch" on each side (similar to #2 w/o the slide part)
4. Reverse order to install new one.
I may still have the instructions from the lights, if you look at it and are stumped I can look for them and scan & post. I will bust your chops something fierce, but I'll scan & post 1st.
DOMINION 07-19-2006, 07:40 AM dmc27 My glove handle is broken and I cant get the glove box open. But when I do the info will come in handy. Thanks for the how to replace instructions :)
dmc27 07-19-2006, 08:01 AM That much I knew. But I'm guessing there are no DIY's on how to open one w/a broken handle. lol. Sorry. Good luck.
DOMINION 07-19-2006, 08:31 AM Oh ok thanks. I guess I'll be going to the dealer soon. Say I know the air/cabin filter is behind there. I guess I'll change that well I'm at it and make my own DIY on how to remove a broken glove box lol
Dom
You have some nasty karma.
You must have killed babies in a past life.
Good luck with the repairs though
dmc27 07-19-2006, 05:21 PM I took a few pics of the latch mechanism. PM if you want to see them. Don't know how helpful they will be.
It looks to me like you could rip the outside handle off and pull the latch pin to open the glove - assuming it's unlocked, and/or you have the key to unlock it. Probably be a PIA, contorting yourself under the dash w/needle nose pliers and such. Then again, I still don't know how you broke it, or if you already have the handle off completely.
DOMINION 07-19-2006, 07:09 PM Thanks Roan
dmc27 I'm working in it now. I'll let you know how its going.
DOMINION 07-21-2006, 01:29 AM Well I cant get the dam thing open. The handle is broken off and I tryed moving parts around in there but nothing. Guess I'll have to pop the dam thing opengerrrr.
I'm going in for a oil change later today so I'll see how much a new one and replace my cabin air filter too.
