Saw this photo and wondering if anyone knows how the hood is going to swing???

Since the renesis sits so far back I'm hoping it will hinge at the front, plus it looks cooler and will help convey the sports car image it needs to have.

I somehow doubt the hood will open like that, but here's for hoping :)

It is a one piece hood, thats for sure. As to whether or not it hinges from the front or rear, thats anyone's guess, but I think it will hinge from the rear.

The hood defintely hinges at the windshield.

Doesn't a hood that hinges near the firewall instead of the rad make for easier access and ability to work on the engine? I've never worked with a front-hinged hood before, so I can't say.

that would depend on where the engine is. the renesis is so far back it would probably be easier to get at if the hood hinged at the front

Sorry didn't make it clear that it was of conventional hood shape not a full front end that would open, but I do feel that the hood should open from the back it will make it much easier to access the engine bay. Because of front midship location of the motor it will be a long reach from the front of the car for any servicing but not having any experience with a rotary there may not be anything to do around the top of the engine anyway, it may be best serviced from beneath.

This may not be best addressed in this thread or this forum either, but what type of modding is most popular for a rotary engine? I've been working on my VR6 and have put on a new intake and am considering an exhaust, cams, chip, and lightweight pulley. I guess I need to better familiarize myself with the Renesis!

After seeing a video posted on the RX-7 Forum of FC racer having the wind peel his hood back at the track, I'll always prefer the front hinged hood of the 1st gen RX-7. Especially after watching the guy run off the road (safely - lucky fool!), then jumping up and down on the hood to get it to stay so he could finish the race. :D

On cars with a long low front end, the engine is back far enough that a rear hinged hood can actually be in the way...

A rear-hinge hood can be ok, if it folds back far enough to rest against the windshield. Most hood/hinge designs don't allow this these days, unfortunately.

I would LOVE for it to have a front-hinged hood, myself.

My 1976 Datsun 280Z hinged from the front and I loved it! :D

that first pic is of the RX-evolv, the concept car that came out about 4 years ago. They did away with that kind of hood years ago, sorry to disapoint. It was called a clamshell and it is cool as hell, but its gone now, im 99.9% sure of that.

And all that stuff will be pretty useless.

The way you are going to get more horses out of the RX-8 is to get it professionally ported, and perhaps add a turbocharger.

That's the REAL way rotaries get mean :) Granted, you can just swap it at some point for a 3 rotor... but 250 horses is enough for me, I'm not drag racing. I am taking my car to the twisties and to autox, and to *cough* empty parking lots and going to enjoy the hell out of it :)
