Howdy, I'm new to the forum and the RX series of cars.

I'm wondering if anyone here has an idea how big the RX-8 will be inside.... I'm a big guy, about 6'3" and 300lbs. I can fit into a late model Mustang without a problem, but am curious about the RX-8.

Does anyone know how much leg room, head room and what the maximum distance between the back of the front seat and steering wheel is?

I've got one of those RX-8 demo disks from Mazda and that car looks really nice.... not to mention the one of a kind sound of it's acceleration. But all of this does me no good if I can't fit in it, or if it's uncomfortable.

I've got a 2003 Mach 1 on the way, but think I may like the RX-8 also. (Pays off to buy the Mach either way because no one here in Dallas can get one.... they are all reserved. I've got a friend who is the general manager of a small town dealership that's getting 2 and has had no one inquire about them yet. Connections :D ) But seriously, if I like the RX-8 better I can probably find 2 dozen people in Dallas that would pay me over sticker and cash for the Mach.

So has anyone sat in this thing? How much room?

Thankyee,
Phoenix

This is a big unknown. I'd hazard a guess that it'll have about as much space as a BMW 3-series sedan like the 330i, but we really don't have any way of knowing right now.

Well the rear seat room is bigger than the current 626.

I'm 6 feet even and I can sit in the back of a 626 without MUCH headache.. it is a bit cramped. But honestly not very unbearable.

If there's more, then I can definately handle it :)

Somebody posted a pic of a big guy sitting in the back and it looked quite comfortable.

In This video (http://real.hfnm.com/Caranddriver/2002/02_ny/02ny_rt_rx8.asf) Sam Mitani the author of the article jumps into the back seat. I wrote R&T a letter asking them how tall Sam was. They replied that he was 5'10". He seemed to fit back there pretty well so I'm guessing that the back seats will be quite usable for most adults.

Japanese automakers are usually pretty good about accomodating a wide range of body shapes and sizes. They are much better than their American counterparts with studying the demographics of their intended markets and using proper anthropomorphic data to size the vehicle accordingly. Automakers that sell in Europe will typically use 97th percentile Scandinavian males (something like 6ft 3in or more in total height) to establish the upper size limit for vehicle interiors.

If you can fit in a mustang and even like it enough to buy one you will be content in the rx-8. I'm 6'0" and it seems like my knees are up against the dash in mustangs, with seat all the way back!
With the apparent advantage of rear passenger legroom you can only assume that the seat will have a pretty good range of adjustability.
