Or ones you can turn off. Right now my family (me, my wife, and triplet four year olds) owns a Mazda Protege and a Mazda MPV. If we're all going somewhere, we'd take the MPV, but I use the Protege to take the kids to school sometime. The RX-8 will work, but only if one of the kids can sit up front, and I don't want to put her up front with a dangerous airbag.
Not really in line with the other requests, but it might be the only thing that would keep me out of an RX-8.

I definitely hope they have "smart" airbags. The ones that don't deploy in a 6mph collision.. And the choice to turn the passenger one off if I dont' have one. They are expensive to replace and sometimes make the difference between repair and writeoff.

As I understand it, there is a sensor in the passenger seat which will tell if a person of over 100 pounds (or so) is sitting on it. If so, the airbag will deploy in an (appropriate) accident. If not, they won't deploy.

Smart airbags are about to become federal law, even though some car companies can't seem to get the system to work correctly.

I've met some interesting airbags in my time, but none of whom I would describe as smart. Maybe you lime with a more educated crowd. Ha ha.
Ok, that was a really bad joke.
