Well, luckily no one got hurt andthe damage is minor, but I got rear-ended today. The kid was completely at fault and I noticed when I looked in my rear-view mirror that he was on his cell phone (I can't stand inattentive drivers who talk while driving but that's a whole other discussion!). Both of us were going like 2 mph so damage is minimal but very evident. At first he told me that he doesn't have insurance :spank: and that we can write this all down that he's at fault and he'll sign it and pay for damages. I told him that I don't know him and therefore I don't trust him and I'll be calling the police. An official report was taken and he was given a ticket for rear-ending me (he got lucky that he didn't get nailed for expired tags too!) and apparantly the car is insured under his dad so it looks tlike the damage will be covered by his insurance. Now comes the waiting period to get things sorted out.

Ouch man, I know how you feel. The second week I had my car I got rear ended by some kid in an Accord while he was talking on his celly. Looking back at it now, I shoulda made his Dad's insurance buy me a new MS rear bumper.

damage is quite invisible since its only on the black plastic. ironic, curve of silver, but nothing silver got damaged. time for the ms rear.

damage is minimal and yes you hardly can't tell by looking at it. But I remember when I picked up my car the bill to the insurance company was around $700 something bucks. The black plastic part is connected to the rear bumper so they went ahead and re-order a whole new back piece, re-paint it, and install it back on. If I knew the MS rear was just that underpiece I would have had them order that piece instead. Only if I knew at the time, oh well I was just excited to get my car back.

Good point about the MS rear being the lower part... hmmm it's not very hard to get rear ended if a person accidentally tried to in the 8.

I have to remember that it can stop faster than the majority of cars out there so I am normally 99.999% of the time very easy on the brakes. It only takes once though and I get a MS rear under spoiler :squint:

When I got rear ended and had them order the new parts(under spoiler, rear bumper) it took them about 2 weeks to even get the parts. Then I picked it up I noticed they hadn't even replaced it, just repaired. There were still scratches on it in places that were there before, that annoying UV damage that can only go away temporairily with 303. And the rear bumper was not connected right. THey wouldnt fix it w/o having the insurance company confirm it was still damaged. And of course they said it was fine. And of course, the day before the Mazda tech had agreed with me it was very damaged and needed repair, the next day he agreed with the insurance guy that it was fine. So now I have a slightly damaged bumper and it looks like my trunk is always open now(you could fit your finger underneath the opening into the truck, but its still shut. Oh, and btw, my cars silver too. hahahaha.

You got the police to show up? When my mom and I were rearended a few weeks ago we called the police and they wouldn't come. They said unless someone was seriously injured or vehicles were not driveable they wouldn't come. Meanwhile, the insurance company of the girl that hit us says is having "issues" about fixing the vehicle, which finally got taken it yesterday for it. Then the girl's insurance said they wouldn't pay for a rental car because they beleive the accident was my mom's fault, since the police didn't cite her for the accident. How can police who wouldn't come, cite someone? :dunno: Anyway, the girl's insurance says it is my mom's fault that we were rearended by someone speeding behind us while we were flowing with the traffic in front of us, that had just started moving from a stoplight and crossed through the intersection. We were able to determine where she was that we didn't see her behind us at the light. The light changes every other block, so she was two blocks behind us, and came flying up and hit us. Clearly must be our fault.

I hope you have an easy time with the insurance and getting your car fixed.

P.S. Our Tribute is silver. :)

I got pretty lucky that they showed up within 10 minutes when I called. The other guy was given a ticket and the police report says that he was at fault. The interesting thing is that both he and I have Geico insuance so I guess thy're working things out one at a time so that there's no conflict of interest, so I'm told.

Yup the insurance company can't really fight against itself on paying you. They have to do it either way...

As far as the police showing up, things are a little different in Ohio. I think you're required to get a report for any accident unless otherwise posted due to traffic/weather conditions.

This is going to sound weird but I have discovered that if someone is barreling up from behind, stand on your horn. The 8 has a loud horn. The car behind you won't know where the horn is coming from and might startle them back to attention. Worked twice for me in preventing the inevitable.

I did and you're right, there is damage there too. So how long does this whole process usually take for the insurance co. to get back to me and get the appraiser scheduled?

Hey! That might be a good DIY... Rear facing horn to get the attention of someone
who's not paying attention.
