Has anyone elses car stopped doing the automatically going to recirculate when you switch the A/C on and the vent to just face. My car used to do this and then just stopped. I tried reprogramming it but it doesn't help. My only other thought it to unhook the battery and then try reprogramming it once everything is reset. Obviously, I can just press the recirculate button and get the same affect, just thought it was weird that is would stop doing it automatically.

Btw, it is 85+ degrees here, so it isn't the cool weather trip that is accounts for.

If you remove a battery cable or your battery dies, you will lose this programmed function. Try the programming procedure again, be precise and make sure you are pressing on the correct buttons:

The AC amplifier can be programmed to automatically default to "RECIRC" mode when the following conditions are met:
1. Ambient air temperature is 68 deg. F or higher.
2. HVAC control mode is in "FACE" mode.
3. HVAC temperature is in maximum cool setting.

1. Verify ignition switch is in OFF position.
2. Press and hold the front defrost and air intake selector buttons simultaneously.
3. Turn the ignition key to the "ACC" position for 3 seconds.
(Continue to hold the buttons down from step #2.)
4. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position for 3 seconds.
(Continue to hold the buttons down from step #3.)
5. Successful programming will be confirmed by the rear defrost indicator light flashing 3 times.

NOTE: If vehicle's battery dies or cables are removed, the programming will not be retained and must be performed again.

Unfortunately, this function simply saves you from remembering to press the air recirculate button when you first turn on the A/C. It doesn't do anything for A/C performance, per se. But anything helps I guess. I have found that the A/C works pretty good as long as you are cruising along at speed on the highway. When the car is idling, it doesn't do well at all.

Thanks for the responses. The thing that gets me is it used to do this and the battery is perfect and has not been unhooked at any point. It is as if it just stopped doing it for me. I kinda wondering if the amplifier is messed up and needs to be replaced, but I would bet the A/C wouldn't work much at all if that was the case.

I'm going to contradict that. I had been quite dissatisfied with my AC until I ran across that reprogramming procedure. It made a BIG change in the performance of my AC system. Meaning, there is something more that happens than simply making recirculate the default. The change was unmistakeable. Believe me, I'd already been putting the recirculate on all the time, trying to eke out some cooling.

I was reminded of this a few weeks ago. I'd disconnected the battery over the winter to do some work and forgotten about the AC programming. When the weather started heating up, I was immediately aware that the AC was feeling anemic -- like its "old" self and that's when I remembered the part about disconnecting the battery. I reprogrammed it again and all was well.

funny this came up.... i had just reset my ecu to fix a ltft problem... forgot about this...

well it is almost summer here in fla.... i noticed that the ac was not normal...

reset it... all is good...

i have to say that if i recall correct that if you have the new amp. that it keeps the compressor from cycling as often....

and it makes a world of difference....

but what do i know it was only 96 here today...
