View Full Version : Can the ECU be replaced?

I think most of us are pretty convinced that the ECU is the root of a lot of problems with the current RX-8. The question is can the ECU be replaced with a system that can be remapped? I know about the piggyback units but I think the engine is running way to rich in the close circuit loop. There might be other instances that the engine is running richer then need be. Is this just too complicated and restricted by Mazda or is it just a matter of time till we see one?

Also in close circuit operations what would cause the car to run to rich?

in closed loop the car runs pretty close to stoich . you dont really wan tto run it much leaner. do you mean open loop.

also you thinking that maybe we can drop in a PCM from like the Ford Mustang ?
