Does anyone know how to get at this sensor? I can just barely touch it let alone pull it off. According to TSB 01-004/05, this sensor must be removed to supress spark plug operation.
My car flooded so I took out the plugs and cleaned them with a toothbrush and gasoline. The procedure of holding the gas pedal to the floor didn't work for me, but I only tried it a couple of times.
I actually turned over the engine with the plugs out and the sensor still plugged in. This means that the plug voltage did not have a clear path to ground. Could this have done any damage. I assume not, since it must be taken into account that the plug wire could come off the plug during normal operation.
While I have the plugs out I think I will also check the compression with a maximum reading mechanical compression gauge. I know that a proper compression test would measure all three lobes but without the proper equipment, this at least will give the maximum pressure in each rotor, a result which should provide a necessary but insufficient condition of acceptance.
I replaced the oil, and I may squirt some into the plug holes to improve compression during starting.
Even if you know how to get at this sensor plug, do you know how to squeeze it so that it releases from the sensor?
In the fuse box, there is a fuse called 'engine'. Do you know if removing this will suppress the spark? Removing the 'Ignition' relay kills the whole engine.
