TLovr 05-13-2006, 11:21 AM In an August morning in 1978, A French film maker Claude Lelouch
mounted a Gyrostabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB
and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck
speed through the heart of Paris. The film was limited for technical
reasons to 10 minutes; the course was from Porte Dauphine, through
the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur.
No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit.
The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly
140 MPH in some stretches. The footage reveals him running real red
lights, nearly hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way
up real one-way streets.
Upon showing the film in public for the first time, Lelouch was
arrested. He has never revealed the identity of the driver, and the
film went underground until a DVD release a few years ago.
IF YOU HAVE ANY REMOTE LOVE OF CARS NO MATTER WHICH ONE, THIS VID IS A MUST WATCH & LISTEN!!!!!! SENDS TINGLES UP MY SPINE

KrazyKanuk 05-13-2006, 12:02 PM Actually, the car used was a 6.9L Mercedez-Benz 450SEL, the sound was dubbed in later. Still a great film!! :ylsuper:
Nemesis8 05-13-2006, 12:28 PM Where are all the people and cars? Looks real early in the morning.
Rotator 05-13-2006, 12:32 PM Movie is pedestrian. Stupid and a waste of bandwidth.
The cars being passed are a good indication of the speed difference = minor! In most cases he is probably not going much faster than 100km/h = BFD
The sound is obviously dubbed. The driving is boring.
In the days of 600hp 11sec 120+ mph 1/4 mile cars, and sub 10 second bikes - it just isn't that fast.
Gotta like the downshift sounds in mid corner....
Now - Getaway in Paris with the guy riding a bike is the one to watch.
There you see the true speed difference where the guy gets upto 250+ kph and is weaving through daytime traffic like pylons.
Also the guy with the 20G mitsubishi turbocharged Hayabusa is scary. I've never seen a spedometer needle sweep like it was a tach.

find me a street legal 10 car in 1978! enjoy the movie for what it is!, ppl blasting down the road at 250kph on a bike is the exact same thing, only faster.
THE YEAR IS 1978 NOT 2006, CANADIAN TIRE TIRE PROB STICK BETTER THEN HI-PO TIRES OF BACK THEN, AND WHERE DOES A BUSA COME INTO PLAY IN THIS, AND WHO CARES ABOUT A BUSA, AND A CAMERA STRAPED TO A SPEEDO
WHY U SOUND SO BITTER?
Champs Elysees in paris is like 10 lanes wide thats why iy don't look that fast

There's an interesting interview with Claude Lelouch about this movie on his site, but it's in French:

Click on "les news... et même plus", then "C'était un Rendez-Vous".
He did the driving himself.
mysql101 05-13-2006, 01:50 PM how about this guy.

thanks for the link kanuk!!! awesome read, one problem is that is ppl start analyzing everything , it takes away from the whole experience and you just don't enjoy it as much after!. and in the interview he said he reached speed of 200km/h. i still like the video, just for the sound. againg thanks for that link!!!

YT1300 05-13-2006, 10:14 PM There's another one of these, and I know it's sped up a tad, but it's shot in Montreal. Some fellow in a BMW (3-series, I'm guessing, from the interior) does a little pootle around the Autoroute and the like. Pointless, but fun enough. Soundtrack is the fun bit.
Rotator 05-14-2006, 11:31 PM Hey Tlovr,
Did you watch the same video I did?
The sound is dubbed. IT doesn't even match the car.
You hear the car in a constant state of acceleration, yet it really isn't going anywhere. You hear downshifts in mid turn. It makes for a very unrealistic viewing.
The supposedly fast car is passing other cars at a VERY VERY minor difference in speed. The other cars are my frame of reference for speed.
It just isn't very good.
1978 didn't have fast cars? Are you serious? What about the 1000hp CANAM cars?
There are way, way better videos out there.
A guy running on public roads going through red lights is not my idea of exciting.

that's interesting because I already put up links about this in which they show them mounting the cameras on the Ferrari

Here's a pic from Lelouch's site showing him setting up the camera (I posted the link earlier in the thread).
