GReat pictures/nice car! question re: picture #4 how many switches d'you have in the 4-slot band that holds the instrument cluster lighting control switch - is there a second switch in there?

supergoat

Yea I threw in "doors" as an option to see if anyone actually reads that stuff. : :mdrmed:

As for the 4 buttons, I just have the dimmer switch and DSC switch.

Thanks guys!

Darin, I actually made one of those the other day. :)

Tomorrow I'm taking it to Mazda to have it checked out. It has a intermiddent rough idle and power loss after having been driven a while. So I'll make use of the factory warranty. :)

Hi goat... glad to see another proboner over here :D:

Although I don't have the Probe GT anymore, I have fond memories. It was a great car. But the 8 is much nicer :)

Bingo - it's more 'mature' - of course a better performer to boot! (Unless you believe 'that board's Kills forum'...

My elapsed time was about 2 weeks, but that's because it never occurred to me to search for the forum until I was deep into the hunt.

Congrats and nice color choice. ;)

Darin, I drove my Probe GT today and quickly realized how dated it is. The RX-8 has a much better driving position as well. I got back in the 8 and loved it.

Even though my Probe has a strong motor, there is no way it would beat the RX-8 in a straight line and on a curvey road it wouldn't even be close. :)

I also put in a full tank of 94 after depleating the 87 "free full tank" from the dealer and it idles smoother, the cup holders don't get hot and the power doesn't go away like it did. Man, this car HATES 87. :)

I will say that if I drive it hard I can smell the cats. Not sure if that is normal on these cars or not.

That's just it, Stephen - Refinement goes a LONG way. You've now got a car with a VASTLY superior chassis, interior, engine, MUCH more power, AND cooler looks. :)

I put in 94? or 95? Octane gas in mine once - whilst in Canada. Not much more power, but my freeway mpg went from 20mpg, to 15-16. If 92 is cheaper, buy 92 and you'll be fine. :)

My car's heated-cup holder works in full effect.

I will say that if I drive it hard I can smell the cats. Not sure if that is normal on these cars or not.

No you wont say that. I forbid you.

:p:

I don't recall smelling the cats - but there are "people" on here who'd probably "run your vin" and find out if the car has ever been flooded - if it HAS, you may need a new cat. My car's power and economy SKYROCKETED with a cat-replacement...(long story..).

Welp, I just ordered the RP supercat, REVi air duct and a K&N filter.

I'm sure someone will say I should have bought the REVi intake as well, but I was not to keen on dropping $300 for it, so the airduct mated to the stock box with a K&N will work for me right now. :)

You're right, even though the PGT offers more torque, NO MATCH!

Because Stephen is my real life hero and I must do everything he does just like him Single White Female style, I have complemented my aging Ford Probe with a Mazda RX-8. Sadly, I did not get the doors or the Darin Pemberton power adder.

I started reading these forums probably 2 years ago, but didn't join until I had a reason to post. Heck, I've been reading the 3si forums for years. Still waiting to have a reason to post there.

me? pics? I don't have a camera. My brother does. Maybe I should use it.

So far, I have bought a cell phone and sun glasses to match the car. Everything I buy has to be black now. It's a sick compulsion.

As for car parts, I emptied my checking account to lower the car loan and generally don't touch my savings account. I'm going to a wedding this weekend so I think it would be prudent to reserve most of this paycheck for that. I have to devise a plan so that anything I buy in the early stages is not rendered moot by something I buy next year. I was thinking about the supercat, but I'll hold off till I'm willing to drive the car hard. I'm still on my first tank of gas. We should make plans for a 2 man mini-meet so that we can mock Nancy for still driving a piston-powered vehicle.

The supercat is a good invesment. I'll let you know tomorrow if it passes smog or not. :)

I thought RP started putting hangers on the new high flow cats? When did you order yours supergoat?

Oh and how much louder is it with the stock exhaust?

Thanks.

supergoat
05-18-2006, 09:39 PM
I ordered it Saturday. I have not driven it yet, but I let it idle and revved it some. It's a bit louder, but not really too noticeable. If you had never heard a stock RX-8 idle you would think the sound with the supercat was normal, if that makes sense. I revved it when the system was cold and there was a hint of rasp, once it warmed up it was deep and smooth.

As far as the install, it was cake. It really does have OEM fit to it. It's amazing how well it fits, I have never installed something aftermarket on a car before that fit this perfectly.
