Errr... NO!
I'm gonna HAVE to find somthing better than shutting off all the airflow!!! Even if that's paying a few fines for having no front plate... And as for the 3rd gen one... that's sacrilage!
zoom44 10-02-2002, 08:34 PM see i have been saying it since the "vanity plate" thread- they are going to make us put the front plate right in front of the air intake! someone else said at the top of the opening it will look like a buck tooth rabbit and at the bottom it will look like a gopher. i think i'll just keep mine on the dash with a broken holder

I don't think we will have a choice... Since it seems the plate area is already carved out.
zoom44 10-02-2002, 08:47 PM please note the sunroof and then see this threadclick me (http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=9345#post9345)
edit to keep on topic: i am not putting it there unlees there is an indentation which would look stupid without the plate there .
Hercules 10-02-2002, 09:16 PM To get a better idea here's another edited picture.

rxtreme 10-02-2002, 09:18 PM I've seen some people angle their plate inward gross amounts to minimize the blockage of airflow. If I had to put it there, that's what I would do. I thinking about perferating my licence plate, as well, to further minimize the effect. Although it still won't take away the ugliness of having the plate there.
Looks like it's eating the licence plate. :D
Grimace 10-02-2002, 09:42 PM God (or Mazda), please please please don't change the front end of the RX-8 just to accomodate a stupid licence plate. Make it a removeable bracket. Just don't mold the front facia around a plate! :(

Looks like a beaver.
irresistibo 10-03-2002, 02:45 AM Im thinking that someone would make a replacement piece so you didnt have to live with the ugly licence plate mounting. If i do get a RX-8 i dont think i would put a plate on the front of the car.

Donny Boy 10-04-2002, 05:52 AM I agree with BlueAdept, I'll take the ticket rather than get the license plate where it seems destined to be placed. Perhaps there is an alternative, albeit an almost as ugly one. In England on very sporting cars like the E-Type Jag I have seen license plates take the form of something like a large "bumper sticker" which is stuck to the front of the car. This is because there is absolutely nowhere on the E-Type that a plate can be hung.
Waddyathink??
BlueAdept, being from England and all may have a comment or 2.
I see a lot of people in my area put their front plate on their dash instead of hanging it on the front of the car. They just lay it on the front right corner. That way if you get pulled over for it you could say u just havent put it on yet or you lost the screws to hang it or some bs... Just a thought.:D

BlueAdept 10-04-2002, 01:31 PM This issue is a bit less serious here...
As I understand it, in the US it's the actual plate which is your "Road Fund Licence" or "Road Tax" and as such making your own would be forgery... Am I correct?
Here, we have a small "Tax Disk" that is displayed in the windscreen.... and the "Number Plate" is just that, so anyone can make them, subject to specification of font, size and reflective material.
Thus, there are many companies willing to make "Show" plates to different specifications which you could risk on a road car... say 20% smaller or tinted etc... so it might be possible for me to get somthing halfway acceptable made up.
But generally, I hate the fact that we have to have a front plate here at all!
Toadman 10-04-2002, 02:28 PM License plate brackets are generally bolted on. I plan to bolt the plate to mine, then beat the hell out of it with a hammer so it's bent and scratched. Then toss it in the trunk. If a cop pulls you over, tell him it fell off and show him the bracket with the plate attached. Tell him the bracket is on backorder with Mazda. :D
Works like a charm, unless he asks for a receipt which you are not required to carry anyhow.
Mazda man 10-05-2002, 03:59 PM I thought about a self-adhesive number plate a while back but even so where do you stick it?
