The first person to come with a solid and proven answer is going to be my hero! pepe 08-15-2003, 12:44 AM Ummmm, buy a US or Jap spec one and import it? :D Seriously, I think you're flogging a dead horse here, without mods, I seriously doubt you'll get those kw/nms back... I reckon you wouldn't notice them if you got them back anyway... an extra 30kw and 130nm though... :p ypwpat 08-15-2003, 07:37 AM Refill the fuel with SHELL OPTIMAX or BP ULTIMATE :D THat should bring some KW back ;) Maestro 08-18-2003, 09:36 PM I'm a Mazda dealer in NZ and I'm trying to do the same thing for my customer. If I can find out I'll let you know. I'm pretty sure its to do with Aussie emissions and our car ended up with it too. If you find and answer let me know. rian.herrick@northharbour.co.nz donaldc 08-18-2003, 09:43 PM Hi, Do you know if your NZ RX-8's have 1 or 2 oil coolers in the high power engine? We lost out and only got 1 in our high power RX-8's. :-( Donald Maestro 08-18-2003, 09:50 PM Not sure I checked on the 1st one in and yes but it could of been Pre Prod Jap spec one ??? Here is a pic of NZ spec but I'm not sure. I think it does..... Well I hope so. Also do you guys get those trick headlight washers !!!!????? donaldc 08-18-2003, 10:27 PM yes we get the pop up headlight washers. next time you're close to an RX-8 - check the space behind the fog lights. you should see an oil cooler. There should have been next to each fog light. Donald Maestro 08-18-2003, 10:35 PM Should have answer by 2moro Erwin 08-18-2003, 10:54 PM Nice pic of a titanium gray... that's what I am waiting for... :D Maestro 08-18-2003, 11:07 PM Thats Rx-8 is mint. has full bodykit and chrome wheels !!!! Maestro 08-18-2003, 11:43 PM You reakon I'm not a spolier / kit type of guy either but this car does look really good. the first pic is average but in the fleash it was really hot ! Lock & Load 08-20-2003, 04:10 AM labrat ditto we are on the same wave length . sco 08-20-2003, 06:01 AM All those bits ruin the lines of the car and make it look tacky. At first I thought the strakes were cool.. but now I've gone off them. [edit: moved some comments to a more appropriate thread] Maestro 08-21-2003, 09:06 PM RX-8 Turned up today. We got ripped off to. It has a plastic wanna be one !!!! :P Originally posted by donaldc Hi, Do you know if your NZ RX-8's have 1 or 2 oil coolers in the high power engine? The fuel/ignition map is simply more aggressive. You need to get the part number for the Jap spec ECU. Then buy it from Mazda. plug it in & away you go. Word of caution though, the cost will be pretty crazy as Mazda should try to offend you with a price around $3000, perhaps more. A cheaper option is going to find a source in Japan that can get access to wrecked RX-8's. Pull the ECU out & you should be able to pick it up for around AUS$1000. Erwin 08-22-2003, 05:48 AM I agree that the bodykit is a bit too much... a bit on the "ricey" side... :) As for the extra power... point me in the right direction. Winning 08-22-2003, 02:17 PM DMRH, if you don't mind telling me how much did you spend to bring 00 FD3S to Australia? I was thinking of importing Spirit R to Australia, how do you do it? Do you need dealer to do it for you, or you can do it yourself? I just saw one black series 7 or 8 driving along Paramatta rd, it looks very very good. Thanks Maestro 08-22-2003, 04:23 PM I have a mate with 13 FD's from 92 to 99 to RZ Ltd 2000 His 98's and possibly 99 are for sale. 98' FD 265hp RS - around $26k Rian I'll find out how much for the other 99' I don't think he will sell this one though !@! Thanks Maestro 08-22-2003, 05:45 PM [QUOTE] We at RotaryNews have been following the threads on the RX-8 forum about the fact that the RX-8 was not making advertised horsepower on the dyno. We have also been in contact with some of the folks in Mazda about the issue. They were fully aware of the issue, and researched it fully. They have released their findings today. As of today, August 22nd, 2003, the revised US-Spec Horsepower Rating of the RX-8 is 238 HP for the Manual 6port RENESIS, and 197 HP for the 4port Automatic RENESIS. The performance numbers advertised ARE NOT CHANGING. They have done many tests, in house, with magazines, and outside third parties, and they are still observing RX-8's that will do 0-60 in 5.9-6.0 seconds and quarter mines in 14.5 (best observed 1/4 mile run at Pomona Raceway was 14.48 at 96.1 MPH) Because of the descrepency in the HP numbers, Mazda is sending out letters to every new registered owner of the RX-8, any pre-sale customers that haven't received their RX-8 yet, telling them of the error in the advertised rating, and giving them two options: 1. Mazda will provide free scheduled servicing for the duration of the standard warranty plus a $500 debit card. 2. Mazda will make arrangements to buy back the car. I'd like to actually thank Mazda for bringing this out so soon (in corporate time). The first dyno reports came in at the end of July, and mid way through August, we have an answer, and solution from Mazda. They didn't try to hide things. They went out to the track, dyno, and researched the issue, and found the problem, then conducted the risk analysis, financial analysis, PR analysis in very quick time for a corporate entity. It is also important to point out these things: 1. Mazda Japan has not revised their numbers down. 2. the engineers are hard at work, and have not stopped development on the RENESIS by any means. [\QUOTE] Hehehehe we are alright after all !!!!!!! Poor US guys :P Maestro 08-22-2003, 05:46 PM 238hp = 177.47kW msydd 08-22-2003, 06:04 PM So.... what does this mean for us, are we still 177kw or are we also down ? Maestro 08-22-2003, 08:18 PM US is down on power to the same as us. We had the correct power figures from the start. Kas 08-27-2003, 03:50 AM My reply from mazda: Dear Mr Costa This only involves US spec cars. Mazda in the US is offering this package as compensation for any confusion over their horsepower figures. Australian RX-8s are NOT affected. They remain at 177KW for manual models and 141kW for automatics. Cheapskate's version: *RX-8 ECU is flash programmable - so there's a >90% chance that the ROM is JTAG (IEEE standard) compatable. *JTAG programmers are cheap and can be had for <$15 in some cases. Hell, I've got several of them here at work. * Find someone to read in their JDM maps (you'll need to run 98 octane to use these). This would be the hard part. * Read out your old maps. Save it on computer for safety's sake. * Burn in JDM maps If you change your mind, (like you want to go somewhere that doesnt have 98 octane) you can always re-flash the ECU. That's how I'd do it. Just takes some kindness and a bit of know-how. -pete DMRH 08-28-2003, 07:42 AM Originally posted by Winning DMRH, if you don't mind telling me how much did you spend to bring 00 FD3S to Australia?
