View Full Version : widest tire on FRONT?????
RoXanneBlack8 05-07-2006, 07:36 AM so ive picked my wheel and tire setup, but i would like to kno whats the widest tire i can fit on my FRONT wheels for this setup....
im getting axis hiros in 18's and i dont kno how wide of a wheel they sell it in 18s. i am also getting Falken Azenis RT 615s on these wheels but dont kno how wide i can fit on all four corners.
i want the same width wheel and tire combo on all four corners, as wide as possible. does anyone kno how wide of a tire u can squeeze into the front wheel wells? i kno the rear can fit a decently wide amount of tire, but i am unsure about the fronts, i kno it involves rim width as well, but i dont kno the widths of the 18s on hiros. i only kno of 8.5 and that will fit 245s for sure, but i am looking into as wide as possible........ any thoughts????????
CosmosMpower 05-07-2006, 10:08 AM I heard if you have wide enough wheels with the correct offset the car will accomodate 275's all around. If your wheels are 8.5 inch wide i would not go wider than 255-265.
yiksing 05-07-2006, 10:15 AM Are you going for looks or handling if you don mind me asking?
RoXanneBlack8 05-07-2006, 10:39 AM for handling. i want the most grip humanly possible.
yiksing 05-07-2006, 10:49 AM Going too wide
1. Makes handling in the wet bad
2. Might make the car difficult to turn
3. Tramlining
I would go for a compromise with 255/40/18, improved handling overall.
IZoomZoomI 05-07-2006, 11:24 AM 255/40/18
RoXanneBlack8 05-07-2006, 04:12 PM all very good points, i read from the staggered wheel sticky about the wide tire=bad in wet convo.
im pretty sure 255s would fit on 18x8.5
is a 40 profile acceptable?
like will the overall diameter be close to original with that? or would 35s be in order?
edit, ps, whats tramlining?!!!!!!!
IZoomZoomI 05-07-2006, 06:14 PM Tramlining is kinda like when your tires a easily move towards a direction you didn't originally intend to because of natural conditions of the road causing you to always correct your steering.
Moostafa29 05-07-2006, 06:18 PM 40 profile is fine. Nice choice of tire/wheels!
RoXanneBlack8 05-07-2006, 07:25 PM thanks bro! im doin axis hiro bc of the caliper clearance, i am going road coursing in the near future and have BIG plans for my BRAKE UPGRADE....
255/40 18 falken azenis
18x8.5 axis hiro hypersilver.....thats it, decision made
ps, just read ur sig, makes sense now, send me a pic!!!!!
yiksing 05-07-2006, 07:56 PM 255/40/18 is the closest you can get to stock tire circumference with 18"
Moostafa29 05-07-2006, 07:59 PM Hi Roxanne, here is a pic before the new tires: http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=77493
I don't have any new pics, as I haven't really driven the car much during the last few months due to various reasons. Hopefully I'll have a few new ones in a week.
epitrochoid 05-07-2006, 09:45 PM think you could get away with 265/35/19's up front?
I'm pretty sure you can if the offsets are right...the knight sports rx8 runs 19x9 Advan RS's on all 4 corners, and that's alot of wheel to only cover with 255mm of rubber.
BigOLundh 05-07-2006, 11:43 PM Its really hard to say how much rubber you can fit, without knowing your rims with... nonetheless if the rim is wide enough to support it, i dont see any issue of going 275 on all 4 corners. Theres a lot of people on here who have that size in 18" rims.
If you are going 275, i would recommend taking a 35 profile
If you are going 255, i would recommend taking a 40 profile

RoXanneBlack8 05-08-2006, 05:13 PM Wow. 18x10 On All Four With 285 35s. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I Want That!!!!!!!!!!
yiksing 05-08-2006, 07:25 PM Just go to www.1010tires.com, use the tire calculator to try all the different combinations that you want, very handly to compare with original size.
Moostafa29 05-08-2006, 08:01 PM Thats crazy. I wouldn't mind running 275s all around, but 285...wow.
RoXanneBlack8 05-08-2006, 09:01 PM i went there and ran thru 6-7 diff tire sizes from 245 40 all the way to 295 35. the most logical answer is 255 40 18 and they require a rim diameter of 8.5-10 inches wide. i KNOW axis sells the hiros in 18x8.5 so im good. if they sell a wider wheel than that (18x9, 9.5, or 10) then i will ge tthose.
otherwise, there we are
255/40 18s
hiro 18x8.5 in hypersilver.
thanks for all your input. !
IZoomZoomI 05-08-2006, 11:42 PM sweet post pics when you're done :)
iridearocket 05-10-2006, 12:23 PM Is there 600+HP in these cars with 265-285+ wide rubber? ... or are they running the standard 237 HP (or less) which can barely snap the stock 225 tires loose in first gear?
Sounds to me like someone is trying to make up for their tiny dick!
epitrochoid 05-10-2006, 02:27 PM Sounds to me like someone is trying to make up for their tiny dick!my first instinct was to say that you're the one making up for shortcomings between your legs, but I changed my mind and realized you're trying to compensate for your shortcomings of brain cells
maybe if you had any idea how a car (#) moves in any direction but forward you'd have a valid point, but clearly you do not
RoXanneBlack8 05-10-2006, 09:24 PM "grip"
look it up moron
Moostafa29 05-10-2006, 10:00 PM Dee Dee Dee....
TeamRX8 05-12-2006, 03:09 AM I hope you meant 255/35-18 :Eyecrazy: but it's by no means the widest like you asked
RoXanneBlack8 05-12-2006, 09:19 PM 35 profile? i used the tire calculator and they suggested 40 profile. whats ur thinking behind goin to 35? do u think they will be rotating too slowly with 40's?

awwqpwwa 05-12-2006, 11:04 PM get 18x10 with 42 offset and roll the fenders front and rear
then put on 295 30 18 all around
thats about how wide you can do...with some moding of the car..and you might have to eliminate the fender liner in the front.
i have 285 30 18 advan A048 on mine. unfortunately i only have a 9.5 wide rim so thats why im stuck with 285.

RoXanneBlack8 05-13-2006, 10:13 PM 30 profile is just too much for me. or should i say, not enuff. i live 10 mins outta philadelphia and i commute to work TO philadel[hia and i cant ride on 30s on those garbage things pennsylvania calls "roads". 40 is my personal limit but will budge to 35 if need be. is 255 40 on 18x8.5 reasonable? or is a 35 profile suggested?
Moostafa29 05-13-2006, 10:45 PM You have the right size in mind. 255/40/18 on 18x8.5.
RoXanneBlack8 05-14-2006, 11:03 AM i thought so, falken doesnt make the 615s in 35 on 255's anyway. im set.

what wheel offsets would be best for this setup u mention???
255/40/18 w/ 18x8.5 front
255/40/18 w/ 18x10 rear
dgrx8 05-22-2006, 04:24 PM shameless bump^
