Get those revs up! It's not that slow in low gears.

I experienced something similiar, not necessarily from stop to first, but rather from first to second it seems to not wind up as quick. From second to third the car takes off...noticeably. It's almost as if the clutch is slipping the whole time in second and the you can feel the engagement in thrid.....For the interested few, shifts are at 8k (still babying it;) ). Not sure if this is related to the whole ECU thing or not, but it is noticeable the lag in second and the lurch in third.

Take that thing pass 3k rpm if you want to go fast. Anything below 2.5k will feel sluggish. Those low rpm only for crusing :) Sometime I have to down shift two gears to get the rpm up if I want to accelate fast.

I drive a similar car, a convertible RX-7. RPMS for takeoff are 2800-3200 rpms. For maximum 0-60, slip the clutch @ 4500-6500 rpms. Don't "dump" the clutch but slip it instead.
I don't notice any lack of HP, and this is only a 170HP car :)

So many posts with new rotorheads. My RX3's usually never saw the low side of 3000 rpm, unless i was stopped. It is a Mazda Rotary Engine!!! KEEP THE REVS UP. Low torque is normal at the lower rev range. You wont float a valve , twist a camshaft or any of those pist-on things.
Talk to an old timer sometime.
