View Full Version : How many of you... rotarynews.com 09-30-2002, 11:58 AM How many of you went to the SevenStock 5 Banquet, and saw "nothing" :) :) :) zoom44 09-30-2002, 12:13 PM i did not attend so what are you talking about?! boowana 09-30-2002, 01:19 PM I was also at theSevenstock banquet and saw nothing about the RX-8. They did show a short film clip of some model of the RX-7 being chased around a road course somewhere by another car... Sputnik 09-30-2002, 01:57 PM They were sworn to secrecy, and these darn jerks are messing with those of us who were incapable of going to sevenstock. boowana, you best tell me what you saw, or I'm gonna take that Texas license plate you had your eye on ;). ---jps Jerome81 09-30-2002, 06:14 PM And what would happen if you *ahem* broke that secrecy??? Is there some legal contract you signed ;) ;) I suppose the rest of us can wait. Heck, I've been waiting since the RX-EVOLV came out. I guess it will make it that much cooler when the car FINALLY arrives. PatrickB 09-30-2002, 06:21 PM You know, the WRX STi forum has an anonymous board so that people with inside info can post the latest rumours with less fear of repurcussion. It's gotten pretty useful information that later ends up being officially confirmed. Maybe we should give the mazda folks haunting us the right place to tease us fanatics with new info... rotarynews.com 09-30-2002, 07:08 PM You know, the North American guys really really wanted us to see the 8 at SevenStock, but pollitical forces within the company kept them from showing it... I don't know if Mazda Corporate browses this board, but those at MNAO that do are in full support of us, and they "get it" ... Thus we were shown a Spirit R going around the track, filmed from a car that seemed to be quicker than it on the twisties! Also, the footage of the Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca was great. Back to the Spirit-R Video, and maybe this is the start of a new thread... How would the Spirit-R do against the 350Z... If it could out run and out handle that, something that out-handles the Spirit-R must out handle the 350Z, via simple A>B & B>C => A>C logic. Ponder that.... BlueAdept 09-30-2002, 07:28 PM That's a pretty subtle bit of reasoning... but I like it... Also, Seeing pictures of the Spirit-R... I gotta say that it looks a million bucks, if it can't outhandle a 350Z I'd be shocked. SPDFRK 09-30-2002, 07:31 PM You suck!! Quit teasing did you see it or not? Here is my hypothesis if A=RX-8, B=Spirit R and C=350Z than you bastards seen a video and my conclusion is: I'm really pissed I decided not to make the trip. Please don't make me submit to bribery I thought you guys were better than that. Grimace 09-30-2002, 07:33 PM I'm not better than bribery! Pick me! Pick me! :D SPDFRK 09-30-2002, 08:03 PM If you can give me any better info than where Ham burgler is hiding the Chicken Mcnuggets then we can talk. You give up the info and we can discuss its worth.:p Filraen 10-01-2002, 12:47 AM Why yes Rotarynews I did go, Me and my little cutie wife sat right next to you at the banquet after I followed you around the whole day meeting really important people. We did see something the day before sevenstock and if i recall you almost got tackled by a Mazda MPV trying to get to it. sorry bout Sunday Mornin, I overslept and ignored the room phone when it rang. BTW how did the racing beat thing go? That was an awesome video of the Spirit R. I must start saving money now for my next Mazda Purchase. For those of you who didn't make it There was a (left hand drive) Spirit R RX-7 (2002 yr model) on Display at Sevenstock right next to Abel Ibarra's 7 second dragster with the most beautiful engine i wish i had. Also I had posed a question to those RX-7 magazine guys (they say mazda still has about 200-300 Spirit R's Still unclaimed by the japanese market. I know the Mazda VP browses this Website specifically (He told me at banquet night) The question was: How quickly would Mazda sell out their remaining stock of Spirit R's if they sold them here in USA? They do a raffle thing to determine buyers in Japan of their special edition RX-7's to be fair to their customers, but i think they are bieng unfair by not offering them here in USA!!!!! Most of RZ owners thought they were buying the last special edition of Rx-7 so that is why the "Spirit" did not sell out. Mazda, Bring the last Spirit R's here and see what happens!!! M:D rpm_pwr 10-01-2002, 12:47 AM Hey Dan, How about you just post up an NDA for us "out-of-towners" to sign... :D -pete Jerome81 10-01-2002, 01:19 AM Now I've seen a few posts where someone said "You'll be pleasantly surprised." WTF is that supposed to mean :) ?? Someone acts like they've seen the final car, and others say the car was NOT at SevenStock. What the heck was going there? Can you not even tell us that the car was there when it really was? Man, now you guys are starting to make me upset. I think I could punch someone if people keep telling me, "youll see" who went to sevenstock and saw "nothing", etc. The RX-8 WAS at SevenStock, wasn't it? You guys are all sworn to not even acknowledge that fact. If you saw NOTHING, I'll be PLEASANTLY SURPRISED, and you saw a VIDEO OF an RX-7 being followed by a car that was faster in the corners. Uh-huh. You guys are killing me..... jmanolov 10-01-2002, 03:40 AM Ok, here it is just for you if you haven't got it. It is a "public secret" that there were two new RX-8 at Mazda during Sevenstock. They were not shown in front of the public but were locked in a garage. Alas the day before Sevenstock, some folks from the RX7 caravan when looking for a restroom at Mazda accidentally found the cars and took some pictures of the new front (different headlights) before the Mazda staff booted them out of the room ....... On Saturday the Sevenstock5 visitors didn't even suspect that the two shiny cars were locked in the garage just behind the red cross tent :) Here are some quotes: "The real RX-8 did make a brief appearance on Friday, to the disbelief and shock of Mazda... you should've seen them.. I'm sure all of the caravan folks who were at the parking lot at that moment where amazed... " "The only thing changed on the front ends is the head lights. I came in with the caravan on friday morning along with ******. Well......to make a long story short I really had to take a leak when we got there. I asked this little asian guy where a bathroom was and he pointed towards this door and says go through there and on the left....so i did. well....i looked over and guess what was sitting there.....two brand spanking new untaped and uncovered rx8's like they just rolled off of the showroom floor. They look exactly like the red one in the pic except for the small headlights. Also they have a silver rotor embroidered in the headrest.....believe me, I saw it with my own eyes (I have witnesses and was the one that took ******'s pics). The car is absolutely bad ass!!! Grimace 10-01-2002, 07:44 AM Nothing that good has ever happened to me as a result of having to drain the main vein. :( :D jmanolov 10-01-2002, 04:17 PM Ok, a little correction. The guys who on Fiday saw the latest cars in the garage did not succeed getting pictures because they were caught by Mazda. They only managed to take pics of the previous car (the one known from Magazines, etc) which was driven outside at that time. I have the pics so who wants to take look at them - message me. The pic quality is good. I don't think it is a good idea to put them online since Mazda took them down once already. From what I was told the latest version in the garage had smaller and just simpler headlights (like the other cars these days) - and not the fancy stuff we knew so far from the RX-8 prototypes. The guys didn't notice any other differences, but they were surprised and on top of that had less than a minute to look at the car before being caught by the Mazda folks. Grimace 10-01-2002, 04:40 PM I wouldn't be surprised if the headlights lost some of the "fancy bits" behind the lenses. It looked expensive to make, "form over function" in that case. I do hope they are still clear or "jewel" lens (like 90% of cars made today are), and I hope the tail lights don't change much. Edited for spelling. zoom44 10-01-2002, 04:42 PM i really liked the "fancy bits" behind the lenses they should have left them alone:mad: BlueAdept 10-01-2002, 04:58 PM Originally posted by zoom44 i really liked the "fancy bits" behind the lenses they should have left them alone:mad: Mabe this is the difference between the standard lights and the "Optional" Xenon type. rx_rob 10-01-2002, 09:08 PM I was at Sevenstock and saw nothing. I would have liked to have seen more nothing, or maybe nothing for real and up-close. The videos were impressive. Most notably the prototype car was really kicking ass on the track. They weren't babying that car and it was moving. It looks to be a real perfomer. Hercules 10-01-2002, 10:03 PM I want to see the video :) BryanH 10-02-2002, 01:56 AM I hope the shape of the headlights has not changed... they're perfect for the front end as is. Little details inside the light housings can change for all I care... just don't ruin those beautiful lines [I say this as if I'm talking to Mazda here... heh]. jmanolov 10-02-2002, 03:14 AM MOC people who've seen the latest one last week said it looks even much better than the one we've seen already Originally posted by BryanH I hope the shape of the headlights has not changed... they're perfect for the front end as is.
