View Full Version : GA RX-8 Club - Grand Am Cup - Barber - July 28-30
SilverEIGHT 03-28-2006, 09:56 PM All right, get ready boys and girls, we are going to have a great time again!
The Georgia RX-8 Club will be attending the Grand Am Cup Race at Barber Motorsports Park at the end of July. Barber will be setting up a Corral for our organization. Last year our group was invited to join the Speedsource team in their paddock area for a special presentation of the #70 car. Sylvan Tremblay himself opened and introduced his lead mechanic for the #70 car. It was a great experience and one I don’t’ think any of us will ever forget. Not sure what we have in store this year but I can only hope we will be recognized again.
If you would like to participate with us, please post a message here and we will add you to the list of attendees. After we get all the details worked out, we will be able to offer discounted tickets so hold off on pre-ordering. We will let you know when the discounts are set up so you can purchase online.
Lets have a big presence this year and support our RX-8 racers.

damnyankee 03-29-2006, 12:57 AM you want some florida peeps to join you? sounds like it's worth the drive....
SilverEIGHT 03-29-2006, 04:46 AM Sure! I look forward to seeing images from your .mac account.
L8APEX 03-29-2006, 10:20 AM oh, alright, twist my arm, I'm already signed up and I didn't even know it. Sure, I'll go.
Of course I will be there, I am going to spend the night Saturday, so that I can watch teh Daytona Prototype cars on Sunday, I hear that they are a good watch too.
SilverEIGHT 03-29-2006, 10:25 AM I knew you would... that's why I went ahead and put your name in the pot!
L8APEX 03-29-2006, 10:29 AM im not predictable or anything....
Labop 03-29-2006, 01:50 PM We're definatly in, there's a few other 8's in pensacola and I'll see if they want to go.
Any suggestions for accomidations? Or is it planned for more of a day trip?
SilverEIGHT 03-29-2006, 02:13 PM L8APEX will be staying overnight. I'm not sure where yet. If the #70 - 3 rotor runs, I assure you, I will be staying for the Sunday race as well. Otherwise, I will be making it a Saturday only event.
MrsLabop 03-29-2006, 02:31 PM It's going to be one heck of a weekend! What time does everything start on Saturday? We'll definitely be staying over Saturday night, possibly Friday night too.
If there are others who need accomodations, let me know and I'll see if we can get a group rate somewhere.
Thanks for the invite SilverEIGHT!
SilverEIGHT 03-29-2006, 02:56 PM I will have to wait to make my decisions later. Everything for me depends on what Speedsource/Mazda decide to do.
TrackAddict 03-29-2006, 03:00 PM I am working with Barber MotorSports park on special car club rates for this event. Last year we got a small discount plus free infield parking and paddock passes. We were given reserved parking overlooking the track. It was awesome. I hope to be able to work out the same arrangement for our group this year as well. However, it will be probably about a month before the car club is set up to purchase tickets. I will update in this thread as soon as we are set up.
L8APEX 03-29-2006, 03:16 PM very cool, I will keep my eyes out for updates.
valpac 03-29-2006, 03:43 PM Yes, I'm in.
ScreaminRX8 03-29-2006, 03:47 PM I would be interested in going! I will keep a look out for updates.
SilverEIGHT 03-29-2006, 03:48 PM Guys, this has the makings of yet another great adventure!
legokcen 03-29-2006, 05:01 PM I'm in!
rxeightr 03-29-2006, 06:13 PM I suppose......
SilverEIGHT 03-29-2006, 06:58 PM rxeightr, will the wife be coming again this year?
Phlash 03-29-2006, 08:05 PM add me to the list please.....
ONOFIVEO 03-30-2006, 02:58 AM I'll be there again. I may need a corral parking pass though. Hopefully I can get a complimentary ticket.
swoope 03-30-2006, 03:16 AM you want some florida peeps to join you? sounds like it's worth the drive....
what he said!!!!!
beers
SilverEIGHT 03-30-2006, 07:58 AM Also need to know if you are driving your 8. Only RX-8s will get to park in the Corral and we need a count so we can tell BARBER the size area we will need.
EDIT - 4/3/06:
Heather at BARBER said we would be able to park other cars (sports cars) in our corral as long as they are with our club. Mustang, Miata, Panoz Roadster, Viper... all welcome if you are a friend of the club and purchase through our club registration online.
Details to come!
MrsLabop 03-30-2006, 04:24 PM We'll be in our 8. Is there any issue with me having my daughter there? She'll probably be in a backpack carrier so no stroller.
L8APEX 03-30-2006, 04:39 PM i will of course be in my 8, we cant ride together, that would be to fuel concious of us. And it is very kid friendly, they have trams to move you form one side of the track to the other. TA brought his daughter last year.
SilverEIGHT 03-30-2006, 04:59 PM Lots of sun, you will want to make sure you have her protected.
MrsLabop 03-30-2006, 05:07 PM Good to know about the trams L8APEX, and good point SilverEIGHT about the sun. I keep forgetting I'm in the South. Summer in England is about 2 weeks if you're lucky and a heat wave is 70 degrees. Her car seat/infant carrier has a sun shade, so I guess that will work, and lots of sunscreen and a sun hat. Thanks for the heads up!
Marietta 8 03-30-2006, 08:15 PM I am there also and I'll make the call to the boys in Fla. so we get "the" treatment again.
Chas
SilverEIGHT 03-30-2006, 08:23 PM Awesome Charlie! Thanks for making the Speedsource connection for our group. This is going to be a very exciting event.
ScreaminRX8 03-30-2006, 09:46 PM I will be in my 8
SilverEIGHT 03-31-2006, 06:10 AM Also need to know if you are driving your 8. Only RX-8s will get to park in the Corral and we need a count so we can tell BARBER the size area we will need.
I may have made a mistake on that post. :o: Stay tuned as Last year we did have a Miata join us in the Corral. I will get in touch with Barber and make sure there are no problems. We have other vehicles that would like to join in with us and that would make it even more fun.
rxeightr 03-31-2006, 06:17 PM rxeightr, will the wife be coming again this year?
She says 'abso-dam-lutely'.
SilverEIGHT 03-31-2006, 06:49 PM LOL, I thought so! :D:
lsujim 04-01-2006, 07:27 AM Add me to the list!
SilverEIGHT 04-03-2006, 07:50 AM TA, I put Francois on the list. I think you mentioned someone else but I didn't catch the name.
L8APEX 04-03-2006, 07:56 AM so where is the list, who is going to go throught the two threads and compile?
SilverEIGHT 04-03-2006, 08:46 AM L8, did you not see my first post! I've kept it up to the minute. Nubies! :yelrotflm
SilverEIGHT 04-03-2006, 08:49 AM Also need to know if you are driving your 8. Only RX-8s will get to park in the Corral and we need a count so we can tell BARBER the size area we will need.
CORRECTION TO EARLIER STATEMENT:
Heather at BARBER said we would be able to park other cars (sports cars) in our corral as long as they are with our club. Mustang, Miata, Panoz Roadster, Viper... all welcome if you are a friend of the club and purchase through our club registration online.
Details to come when TA finalizes with BARBER!
SilverEIGHT 04-03-2006, 08:54 AM The list is on Post #1. I will keep adding to the first post.

yep, i deserve that, most wont get it, but I deserve it. Well played. problem is, I never go back to the first post, i just check the new stuff.
I'll be there for the weekend as well. We should meet at Charlies again!
Please add me to the list
MrsLabop 04-03-2006, 10:31 AM I was doing some checking and most of the hotels within 10 miles of the track are already booked up. I'm going to keep searching, and I'll let you know what, if anything, I find. If you are planning to stay up there, and you want to PM me and let me know, I'll see what I can find for the dates you want, and see if we can get a group rate somewhere.
- Lissa
L8APEX 04-03-2006, 11:08 AM ahh crap, I had not thought about booking a hotel yet. And now they are all full. Guess I might need to find one a few miles away. Who else is going to stay Saturday night...
SilverEIGHT 04-03-2006, 11:20 AM MrsLabop, put me on your list for Saturday night. I'm sure I can find a roomate.
ScreaminRX8 04-03-2006, 08:46 PM Ya'll might want to check Lincoln and Oxford which are about 35 miles away if there is nothing closer. I personally live between the two and it takes about 20 to 30 min to get there, depending on traffic. There is a lot of construction between Oxford and Barbers. Just a thought!
swoope 04-03-2006, 08:49 PM yea,
i need a place, is camping at the track an option???? not that i am into camping, but it is an easy fix.
beers
SilverEIGHT 04-03-2006, 09:57 PM Camping? I wonder if my tent is still any good. I may think seriously about this. Will have to look into it. Thanks Swoope.
Labop 04-04-2006, 05:59 AM If it's open, we're trying for the Comfort Inn (or super 8) in Oxford. We've stayed there due to a hurricane.
L8APEX 04-04-2006, 06:08 AM There is also a decetn Hampton Inn in Oxford, we stayed there when we did TGPR in January. It would be an option. I will check and see if it is booked up.
SilverEIGHT 04-04-2006, 06:18 AM I could not find anything on the BARBER website about camping so I wrote an email to Heather. Will post as soon as I here back.
Phlash 04-04-2006, 07:46 AM Question......am I the only one just going for Saturday? I am thinking about bringing my son but didn't have plans to stay the night.
L8APEX 04-04-2006, 07:52 AM I am guessign that you will not be the only Saturday only attendee. I just want to see the Daytona Prototype cars this year.
ANd for those looking, I don't know how many more rooms are available, but I was able to secure a room at the Hampton Inn in Oxford. So if you are still looking, check into it.
SilverEIGHT 04-04-2006, 07:52 AM I'm banking on the #70 GT running on Sunday and I don't want to miss that. May be a no show but I'll take the chance.
MrsLabop 04-04-2006, 08:41 AM Okay, stupid question, but are the museum and track at the same location? When I do a search by distance for the museum I can find things within a couple of miles, but from the track, the closest is 10 miles.
SilverEIGHT 04-04-2006, 08:46 AM Yes, they are the same location.
MrsLabop, I have a room with L8APEX. You can take me off the list.
MrsLabop 04-04-2006, 08:48 AM Thanks SilverEIGHT, I have taken both of you guys off the list. It looks like everyone else is organizing it themselves, so I am just going to post the hotels I find with availability, the cost per night and how close it is to the track.
L8APEX 04-04-2006, 09:18 AM I am going to set aside some time this trip to go to that museum. I have heard that it is pretty cool, and I did not get a chance to stop by there last year.
SilverEIGHT 04-04-2006, 02:13 PM For those of you who may be interested in camping at BARBER:
"Yes, there is camping at the track for the Grand Am event. For camping pricing and info go to https://www.southtix.com/grandam-tickets.html
or call 1.800.240.2300.
Heather"
Keep in mind that you should NOT purchase tickets yet as the pricing structure has not been set up for our club yet. Hold out for the discounts.
Count me in and I'll be driving!!!
Pam
SilverEIGHT 04-05-2006, 07:05 PM Yea Pam!
rxeightr 04-05-2006, 09:50 PM It'll be kewl to have Pam there.
And likely we'll be there for just Saturday's events.

They are going to have to give us a BIG space in the corral this year. With the banner and the easy up, we will definately look official. Now the wait until July will probably come close to killing me. I need to find a bettter camera for this year.
SilverEIGHT 04-14-2006, 08:14 PM TA, heard anything from Barber yet! Wonder if they have us set up to purchase? After The Mitty, I'm going to be counting the days till this one.
legokcen 04-15-2006, 10:47 AM I get more and more excited about this every day. I hope we have the biggest crew out there. I wonder if we could convince Speedsource in setting up one of the prepped cars they won't be racing at the corral with us. It would make for a hell of a show! The BMW group had a race car there last year.
legokcen 04-15-2006, 10:55 AM Charlie,
Think you can ask them about the car? Or is that asking too much? I don't want to distract them from the race or anything. I just thought it would be cool.
SilverEIGHT 04-15-2006, 12:17 PM Awesome idea Lego.
TrackAddict 04-15-2006, 03:52 PM Not yet. Hold tight...

SilverEIGHT 04-16-2006, 08:27 AM Labop, is your friend with the Viper coming? I'll put him on the list if he is.
Labop 04-16-2006, 02:30 PM Not sure at this point. We're meeting up this week, I'll find out then.
TrackAddict 04-16-2006, 03:27 PM When TA is driving, the "Oh Shit" handle. :hahano:You have yet to ride with me although with my shitometer out of calibration, you may be right. Pam and Robert can probably vouch for me though after TGPR.

TrackAddict 04-24-2006, 09:05 PM Yep, I can vouch too for the "Oh shit" factor!! :mdrmed:Oh yeah, Lisa too
Marietta 8 04-26-2006, 08:31 PM No official word on whether the GT car will run Barber yet. I spoke w/David last week and it really depends on whether Mazda puts up the $$$. I will speak to them as the date gets closer about having us visit like last year.
ScreaminRX8 05-04-2006, 08:41 PM Any new news on Barbers?
TrackAddict 05-05-2006, 07:24 AM Tickets for this race for car clubs are not yet available. You can buy regular tickets already but they have not set up the car club purchases yet. Don't worry about tickets getting sold out. This isn't the Bristol Nascar race so tickets will be available even at the gate.
What we plan on getting is a similar deal to last year which was a discounted ticket and a car club corral set up. If I remember correctly, we ended up saving about $10 off the regular price.
Believe me I am on this and will post as soon as I hear back from my contact at Zoom Motorsports, the folks that run Barber. I have emailed the lady a few times and she told me she is on it. I don't want to pester her too badly.
L8APEX 05-05-2006, 08:04 AM Thanks for working on that TA, we all appreciate the chance at discounted tickets, a spot int he car corral, and a fe bones back to the club coffers.
jdeberhart 05-07-2006, 11:25 PM I would love to attend this event, though I do not have an RX-8, I do have my RX-7 which should be running again in time.

He lives down the street from me. I can vouch for him. Of course you're welcome to attend. We'd love to have you. Let me know when that motor is going in. I got some Hoosiers for the 7, so it's almost ready for the track.
SilverEIGHT 05-15-2006, 12:09 PM My upcoming instructor for CMP in July is Rob Whitener with Roar Racing. I asked him if the Roar Racing Team would spend a little time with us during the Barber event. Here is his quote:
"Of course the club is welcome to come spend some time with us in the paddock. We will do our best to make a good photo op for you"... "we will try to set something up when we get there. We can talk as long as you want, I will try to get some of the younger faster drivers to participate as well."
===========
Expect a tour of the Speedsource team as well. Charlie will get us the details later.
I think this is going to be a hell of an event!

L8APEX 05-15-2006, 12:12 PM My upcoming instructor for CMP in July is Rob Whitener with Roar Racing.
Expect a tour of the Speedsource team as well. Charlie will get us the details later.
I think this is going to be a hell of an event!
http://www.rx8club.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=77238&stc=1
well then, that just made this upcoming event even freakin better, and I did not think that would be possible. This is gonna be so much fun. How long do we have to wait for this now? Too long.
TrackAddict 05-16-2006, 07:16 AM Folks - the car club offer is now available for this event.
Go to: https://www.southtix.com/grandam-tickets.html to purchase tickets. Skip down to the car club/corporate discount area and enter the password: Carclub06 (see picture of screen capture)
It will open a new page where you can order your tickets. You must select the appropriate car club: RX8 Club - Georgia from the drop down list at the top of the page. Order what ever tickets you want. At the bottom of the page, enter your car year and model to get a space in the corral. (see second screen capture picture). Then complete the purchase by following the rest of the directions.
By buying tickets as part of the RX8 Club you save $10! Even if you do not drive an RX8 you can get these tickets along with paddock access. You just have to park somewhere other than the RX8 corral.
Thanks for your patience and see you at Barber!
Silver - will you modify the first post in this thread with the info to make it easy for everyone to find please?
SilverEIGHT 05-16-2006, 07:24 AM GREAT! I'll register this morning. Thanks TA! :D:
L8APEX 05-16-2006, 07:55 AM I will have to get registered for this one next week. No time this week. Must prepare for track.

Labop 05-28-2006, 09:22 PM I'll probably be ordering tomorrow. Just in case I forget, when is the deadline for ordering tickets? We've been a little busy with our new arrival...
...not talking about the car. We had our baby!!
SilverEIGHT 05-28-2006, 09:48 PM Congratulations!!! . . . . . BabyLabop
Not sure of a deadline. Haven't thought about that.
MrsLabop 05-28-2006, 11:33 PM Thanks SilverEIGHT!
She an 8lb 2oz incredible eating and pooping machine. Hopefully she will have settled into a feeding routine before July or I'm not going to get to see much of the race! We should be getting tickets here shortly. We'll let you know when we have sorted it out.
valpac 05-29-2006, 07:47 AM I'm in. Tix purchased.
SilverEIGHT 05-30-2006, 11:28 AM I've not received my tickets yet, has anyone else? Just wondering if I need to follow up?
My confirmation said the tickets would be mailed July 1. I signed up for the weekend pass because I'm leaning toward staying Sunday too.
SilverEIGHT 05-30-2006, 07:46 PM Thanks Pam, guess I overlookd that.
ScreaminRX8 05-30-2006, 08:49 PM Is there a deadline for ordering tickets?
SilverEIGHT 05-31-2006, 06:33 AM "Advance ticket prices available through Thursday July 27." Guess that means you can pick them up when you get to the track? I strongly suggest you purchase through the club so you get a discounts.
L8APEX 05-31-2006, 06:36 AM I am going to buy mine next week. Looking forward to it, looks like we are going to have a really good turnout.
wankleman 05-31-2006, 10:02 AM Bought my tickets, count me in pleeez--bringing the old man with me-- need to call leh king and see if he is racing, #80 or 14 GT3 911
olddragger 05-31-2006, 11:03 AM Yall may have to add my family to this event--I will let all know soon.

SilverEIGHT 05-31-2006, 12:12 PM WOW! We are at 32 people and counting and we have 2 months to go! I do believe this is going to be one of the biggest gatherings of rx8club members & family EVER if this keeps up. It's really exciting to see people from different states and throughout GA participating. Can't wait!
OD, how many family members are you talking about? I was not at Roebling so I did not get to meet your wonderful wife. Hope I get the opportunity at Barber.
Phlash 05-31-2006, 12:54 PM Tickets for Saturday for phlash and lil' phlash ordered!
Are we bringing food and stuff again?
SilverEIGHT 05-31-2006, 12:58 PM That worked out really nicely last time. Shall we start a list and add to it or make suggestions and let people pick from it? I want some of rxeightr's "Locally Famous Chicken Wings"! How about I bring the Ice Cold Water Melon again.
TrackAddict 06-01-2006, 07:54 AM Tickets for Saturday for phlash and lil' phlash ordered!
Are we bringing food and stuff again?
Kids 12 and under are free IIRC
Phlash 06-01-2006, 08:13 AM you're kidding..........oh swell....."no refund/no exchange"
If that is the case I have a ticket for someone........
legokcen 06-01-2006, 08:26 AM I have a group coming from up here. If that's true, I'll get one less ticket. I should have about 6 or so coming up.
ScreaminRX8 06-01-2006, 04:33 PM Cool! So I only have to buy one ticket, being since lil screaminRX8 is 12.
cameron36 06-02-2006, 11:09 AM I will probably be going... I have been down there for some races to watch my uncle race his 996 so I will probably go with him to watch the race.. please let me know if I should purchase the tickets now online or wait till I get there.
L8APEX 06-02-2006, 11:12 AM Very cool. Glad to see that our turnout for this is going to be huge this year.
As for tickets, somewhere in this thread, TrackAddict posted the instructions for buying tickets, as part of the Georgia RX-8 Club, and getting the car corral pass. I am not sure which post it was, but it will show you how. You should go ahead and get them now.
TrackAddict 06-02-2006, 12:58 PM Check out the kids 12 and under free rule before you take my word as final. I am pretty sure that's the case though...
Ticket purchase instructions have been added to the first post.
L8APEX 06-02-2006, 01:09 PM now there is a true forum junkie, on vacation and still visiting the boards. I can't say that I will be doing the same in two weeks, probably have 1000 posts to read when I get back. How is the trip TA, good I hope.
Phlash 06-02-2006, 01:21 PM Per the Barber ticket web site:
Tickets: Lawn seating (bring blankets, lawn chairs). Children 12 & under free with a paying adult. Ticket includes free parking. Discounts available thru Sunday 9am. (Discounts not available at the track).
So, I have one extra for someone ordering multiple tickets. I can just meet you at the track Sat am for a ticket /$ exchange......You will still need to order at least one online so that you can order your free car corral pass.
valpac 06-02-2006, 10:02 PM Here's a couple questions. Are there enough spaces in the corral to park all 32 attendees? Do we have corral spaces on Sunday?
rxeightr 06-03-2006, 10:07 PM Tickets bought.
As far as room, we'll just invite the Mustang crowd to set up camp elsewhere.
ScreaminRX8 06-04-2006, 09:54 AM Ticket purchased and confirmed!!!
L8APEX 06-05-2006, 06:30 AM Here's a couple questions. Are there enough spaces in the corral to park all 32 attendees? Do we have corral spaces on Sunday?
I would assume that for Saturday, they will have a count of how many people attending under the GA RX-8 Club heading there are, and that they will provide space accordingly, that seemed to be what they did last year. As far as Sunday, what did you and AC8 do last year, I don't remember? Maybe TA can shoot them an email, since he has been the point of contact for this up to this point.
valpac 06-05-2006, 10:54 AM Not a fan of assumptions. It would be nice to know how they are going to alot us space. Certainly don't want us scattered all over hells half acre. On Sunday, they ASSUMED noone from our club was going to be there, soooo... no soup for you. They were kind enough to park us over by the shitters. Very nice.
L8APEX 06-05-2006, 11:11 AM well, then when TA gets back, we will need to see if he can contact whoever it is he has been in contact with, and see about getting some answers to those questions. better than getting someone else involved, and getting different answers, or confusing things.
Do we know how many are staying over for Sunday, that will be something they ask him, I am sure of that. I know I am staying for Sunday.
valpac 06-05-2006, 11:30 AM Yep. No need to go over top of TA. I'll be there Sunday.

EDIT:
I just got the check for the remainder of the Georgia RX-8 Club EZ-UP from Grassroots and Classic Motorsports. I will get it to TA next time I see him, since it is made out to him.

L8APEX 06-05-2006, 06:41 PM Yeah, the DP & GT cars run on Sunday. I have watched every race this season, and have really enjoyed following it. So I am definitely in for Sunday, they are faster, louder and crazier than the ST & GS guys, and a lot of fun to watch. A few of the DP & GT drivers are also drivers in the other class.
jdeberhart 06-06-2006, 10:29 PM I'll be staying for sunday, as well. If I can't find my tent, I'll just sleep in the car. :mdrmed:

I got an email from the folks at Barber yesterday, just about their new picture gallery. I think I wasted at least 30 minutes yesterday just looking through them. This is going to be a lot of fun. And it looks like our turnout is going to be great, the biggest gathering for us yet. :)
Herblenny 06-12-2006, 11:50 AM I live 10 miles away from Barber track.. I'm interested..
Can anyone with Rotary come?? or are you guys doing just RX8?
Local rotorheads will be interested in this and I could pass on the info if you like.
Please PM me.

In my group of 7, I'm the only rotorhead. The other guys just like cars a lot.
Bring them all on.
whenson417 06-12-2006, 02:39 PM I am sure anyone and all is welcome to hang out with us as we are a very friendly group but I think only the 8's will be allowed to park with us in the coral. The other cars may get sent to another spot to park. Look forward to seeing you there. Now if I can just decide on if I want to stay for Sunday so I can go ahead and purchase my ticket....
jdeberhart 06-12-2006, 05:23 PM Also need to know if you are driving your 8.
So i believe that all club members can join the corral, right?
SilverEIGHT 06-12-2006, 06:51 PM jkeberhart, thanks for bringing this up. The turnout for this years club ticket purchase is so much larger than we expected that we are concerned that if we are not careful, we will not be able to get all of the RX-8's in the corral. Last year we had about 12 participants and as of right now we have 50 people on the registered list here on this forum. That is a HUGE increase and much more than we could have dreamed of participating. Because of this TrackAddict and I are concerned that if we do not allow the RX-8s to have a contiguous area that some of them may be left out due to space limitations and that just would not be fair to the RX-8 Club.
So, TrackAddict will be contacting Barber tomorrow and letting them know how many people it looks like we may be having (could possibly exceed 75) and see what our limitation on space is. They may say 20, 30 or 40 cars. I have no clue! Let's see what he finds out and post here for us. I hope you understand the dilemma. What a great problem.
What I'd like to see happen is that we keep all RX-8s, RX-7s and other cars in a contiguous section within the corral with the RX-8s being up front or to one side.
Everyone registering through the club will get a ticket discount and can come to the corral even if we run out of space.
Let's just see what TA comes up with.
RoarRacing 06-13-2006, 07:37 AM Roar Racing would like to extend an invitation to the RX-8 Club and any race fan to come by our tent and spend some time with our team throughout the race weekend. Last year we had a great turnout and met some really nice people. Hope to see you there.
Nick Gurucharri
whenson417 06-13-2006, 07:57 AM Nick,
Those are some sweet looking 8's!!! I will definately stop by and gaulk at those gorgeous cars for a while.
Hey L8,
I bought the ticket that grants me access on all three days so if you still have that spot available for the room then I'll fill it if you don't mind.

Nick Gurucharri
Nick, Thanks for your offer! I assure you there will be a nice size group to come by and discuss, look, take pics, listen and just admire your cars. I talked with Rob W. already and he is expecting us as well.
Thanks!
Don

Just got off the phone with my contact at Barber. There will be no problem with space so anyone who gets a ticket through our car club and selects the parking pass and be allowed to park in our designated space. As SilverEight said, we need to keep the cars in the corral sporty rather than staid family cars. They have asked me to supply them with a list of the cars we will be parking in our area so they can prep accordingly. They can park non rotary cars to the side but still a part of the group. Please post up what kind of car you will be in for the event.

We need to plan food for this. Last year everyone brought some food and we pigged out.

Yes, all of us will be in the same area but we will give the 7's their own section inside the corral and the 8's will have their own section but all will be inside the GA RX-8Club corral according to TA's conversation with Barber yesterday. Look forward to you guys joining us.
legokcen 06-14-2006, 09:41 PM OK, here's our info:
Me, Jarrod, Aaron coming in my RX-8
Billy, Jim, Jason, +1 coming in Billy's Sequoa

rxeightr 06-15-2006, 07:23 PM So should I bring the RX-8 or the '64 Stingray?
And plan on wings from the MS. rxeightr
SilverEIGHT 06-15-2006, 07:42 PM OMG! Bring the Stingray! I want to sit in it and dream about the car I always wanted.
I was hoping for a repeat on the wings. My mouth is watering now.
legokcen 06-15-2006, 09:21 PM So should I bring the RX-8 or the '64 Stingray?
Since Corvette had a 4-rotor prototype in 1973, it is allowed.
http://www.idavette.net/cars/73882t.jpg
I'd love to see it, please bring the stingray. I bet it'll get more looks than our cars.

haha, it is my car. It is not really an action shot, it is what happens when I pull out of my boss's driveway. I have always felt it teeter on two wheels when I leave his place, and finally thought to take pics of it.
Original pics (http://garx8club.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=222&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=915)
scroll down a bit to see the pics. it was amusing. DSC-TCS hates it. A lot.
legokcen 06-18-2006, 12:35 PM I have to check the GA RX-8 club forum more often. BTW, the RX-7 is now track worthy! I'll post some pictures if you all want. The Front sway was a bitch to get on, and it much bigger than stock. Coilovers are next, those have to be custom fabricated with some welding. I'm excited and my neighbors hate me :)
SPICcnmGT 06-19-2006, 09:32 AM I would like to join everyone. I'm from Bham so I'll be there no matter what, hopefully 3days, but for sure Sat/Sun just depends on work.
It will be me and maybe my wife, but just 1 car, RX7.
olddragger 06-19-2006, 08:40 PM Off thread---but swoope has posted a new flash out. engines can have oil starvation issues at light cruise conditions causeing a lost of compression and blow by through the seals etc--no tsb yet. always knew my car ran better with pre mix.

jdeberhart 06-20-2006, 01:23 AM ...gotta love mechanical OMPs. And at the moment, it looks like I have all the parts to get my 7 running, so it should cartaintly make it to Barber so long as it proves reliable enough.
SilverEIGHT 06-26-2006, 12:48 PM I'm starting to get excited about this and we have a month to go!

L8APEX 06-26-2006, 02:28 PM tickets are supposed to mail out on the 1st. When that gets here, I will get really excited. http://garx8club.com/phpBB/images/smiles/freakout.gif
SilverEIGHT 06-26-2006, 02:54 PM Anyone watch the Rolex from Mid-Ohio yesterday on Speed! Man, that BMW had wings when he crashed on that last lap. The Pontiac really pissed me off. He could not get around the BMW. He kept trying, bumping, nudging... then he sent him flying. Really pissed me off. Glad the driver was OK. Six or seven end over ends was a wild ride. Two end overs in mid air.
JUST DAMN!
L8APEX 06-27-2006, 06:29 AM I am pissed too, because I thought I had it set to record on my DVR...and didn't. So I did not get to watch it.
SilverEIGHT 06-27-2006, 06:50 AM Didn't record the race but I did record the replay of the wreck! I get pissed everytime I watch it. Damn Pontiac :piss:
olddragger 06-27-2006, 10:37 AM hey silver --you got a catch can yet? --want one? I have some left over stuff from when I made mine --so when Barber comes around I will have several I can pass out. You have to be over 50 to qualify!

SilverEIGHT 06-27-2006, 11:15 AM Is that kind of like a Drool Bucket or a box of Depends? I'm a certified AARP member so being over 50 is not an issue. Hummmmm, wonder if AARP members get a discount at NASA?
L8APEX 06-27-2006, 11:19 AM ...Hummmmm, wonder if AARP members get a discount at NASA?
maybe, but only because they expect that you will miss a session or two, because you got lost, forgot to show up, or had a bodily excretion malfunction. :yelrotflm
SilverEIGHT 06-27-2006, 11:21 AM ... hence "Depends"! :o:
Herblenny 06-27-2006, 02:00 PM Just bought my tickets.. i've request for 2 coral passes.. my 2nd FD might be ready by then..
Also, I found out that my engine builder's son will be racing at this event in the kart racing.. I believe he's ranked pretty high..
SilverEIGHT 06-27-2006, 03:31 PM I'd love to watch the karts! When are they running?
L8APEX 06-27-2006, 04:13 PM the karts practice at 8:00 am saturday, and race on sunday. I attached the weekend schedule of events.

rxeightr 06-28-2006, 06:58 PM How was that driving exotic cars event?
Rated a "10" -- some major muscle with all that horsepower (or should I say torque)

Chris, what are you driving?
SPICcnmGT 06-29-2006, 08:57 AM Ok, I didn't read the whole thread, so are the RX-7's getting Car Corral passes?? Or is that just for the 8 guys??

RX-7s can also get the corral passes. All we ask is that you post up how many tickets you are buying/how many cars/what type of car.

I'll be driving an RX-8 and selected the car corral pass. I will be there for Saturday only.

L8APEX 07-02-2006, 07:22 PM I wanna know what this catch can is, and I'm not even old enough to qualify.
I will be checking the mailbox with anticipation for the next few days, since tickets shipped out yesterday. :D:
SilverEIGHT 07-02-2006, 07:52 PM I don't think I've ever wanted to go to the "Barber" this much! :D:
SilverEIGHT 07-03-2006, 12:28 PM While cleaning up my hard drive at work, I discovered some video I shot at the Barber Grand Am last year. I'll see if I can put some of it together and post it for a preview of what's to come... on a smaller scale!
L8APEX 07-03-2006, 12:30 PM I bet there is a certain video from March 2004 that a few people would still like to see. :)
legokcen 07-03-2006, 12:35 PM I wanna know what this catch can is, ....
My propane grill in the back patio has a couple of catch cans. Could it be something like that????? :mdrmed:
L8APEX 07-03-2006, 12:37 PM since you have to be 50 to get one, that means it must be to control something brought on by being old. maybe it is more like a catch bag, like they make the horses wear in Savannah, to keep them from crapping on the street. :Freak_ani
SilverEIGHT 07-03-2006, 12:47 PM Is that kind of like a Drool Bucket or a box of Depends? Yea, that's what I thought a while back. :mdrmed:
ScreaminRX8 07-05-2006, 01:49 PM Anyone recieved their tickets yet?

I owuld be up for getting there in time to watch them. The more time there, the better.
SilverEIGHT 07-11-2006, 11:16 AM OK, I'm leaving the house at 6:00 AM. Where do you want to meet up with me. I'll be heading down I-85 to I-285 then west to I-20. I will not take me but 20 to be at Jimmy Carter Blvd.
L8APEX 07-11-2006, 11:18 AM I can meet up with you at Jimmy Carter and I-85 then. Plenty of time to plan.
SilverEIGHT 07-11-2006, 11:40 AM OK, for those that want to meet up and form a caravan over. I will update the first post of this thread with an eta of meeting places on the way to Barber. Some of you may not want to leave this early. I will start a second list if you like. L8 and I want to get there early to watch the Go Karts practice.

I will just hang out on the shoulder, and catch you as you go by. Cell phone communication before that will be a must, since I don't feel like sitting on the shoulder for a long time, crazy things happen on the shoulder of 85.
 But we have a ouple weeks to work that out. I don't know if anyone else will be leaving that early or not.
Hey guys! Can I come too?! I have a friend giving me paddock passes and I just ordered a car corral pass. Add me and Mr. L-Co to the list please! Yay! I cant wait!!!! I went to Barbers for the superbike races a couple of months ago and had a blast. (Of course the free drinks in the paddock helped immensely.)
SilverEIGHT 07-11-2006, 01:49 PM Sure, welcome aboard!
valpac 07-11-2006, 04:52 PM See you guys when you get there. I am probably going over Friday and stayin at some fleabag hotel.

SilverEIGHT 07-12-2006, 09:28 PM Gimlet, yall get another caravan together and I'll put it in the first post.
SilverEIGHT 07-12-2006, 09:44 PM If you are interested in purchasing GA RX-8 Club labels for your car or neighbors Porsche, please go to our order thread at our website garx8club.com (http://garx8club.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=301) and follow the directions. SilverEIGHT: ICE Cold Watermelon
jdeberhart: Cookies
rxeightr: Chicken Wings (ummmm yummy!)
L8APEX: couple coolers, put some beers, cokes, and stuff
chrisg: cooler with beer, soda, water, etc.
chrisg 07-13-2006, 11:50 AM I will join the 8ish-9ish caravan. I vote for an I-20 exit just outside 285 - maybe the Thornton Rd exit? But then I would vote that way given I live in Marietta....
Phlash 07-13-2006, 12:07 PM lets plan on a 7:30 to 8:00ish group for the second batch..lets just figure out where to meet.
Gimlet 07-13-2006, 12:42 PM Sounds good Phlash - Do we make it official? The group leaves @ 8?
As for location - Thorton Rd. Exit looks pretty good, as anyone near Metro ATL will have to pass by there heading West. Is there a large parking lot there abouts to meet up at (I'm kinda new)?
SilverEIGHT 07-13-2006, 01:22 PM OK, I'll put it on the first post.
Is there a spot you guys will meet at like a waffle house or something?
whenson417 07-13-2006, 01:53 PM Thornton road works for me. There is a Walmart on that exit if you take a left off the ramp from I-20 heading west. Or if you take a right off the exit there will be an IHOP where some of us could meet early and catch some early morning grub before we head out.
valpac 07-14-2006, 09:51 AM Mrs. Murphy (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0291349/): Help you two?

Elwood (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000101/): No ma'am, dry.
Jake (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000004/): Do you have any fried chicken ma'am?
Mrs. Murphy (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0291349/): Best damned chicken in the state.
Jake (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000004/): Bring me four fried chickens and a Coke.
Mrs. Murphy (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0291349/): You want chicken wings or chicken legs?
Jake (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000004/): Four fried chickens and a Coke.
Elwood (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000101/): And some dry white toast please.
Mrs. Murphy (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0291349/): Ya'all want anything to drink with that?
Elwood (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000101/): No ma'am.
Jake (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000004/): A Coke.
Mrs. Murphy (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0291349/): Be right back.
Valpac: four fried chickens and a Coke

chrisg 07-14-2006, 12:23 PM I'm up for grabbing food at IHOP before we leave at 8am.
ScreaminRX8 07-14-2006, 01:56 PM If anyone is coming over early (i.e. Friday) and are staying close to Oxford or Lincoln let me know, we can meet up or something.
I have a question since lil screaminrx8 gets in free does that mean he will get in the paddock for free also?
whenson417 07-14-2006, 01:59 PM what time do you want to meet up at IHOP then?? 7ish? Some reason I always think it takes aleast an hour to eat there cause they are so slow.

SilverEIGHT 07-14-2006, 02:55 PM Dang guys, group #1 will be passing by there about that time. Guess we will wave as we go by or just stop in for a egg and a juice!
