All right, get ready boys and girls, we are going to have a great time again!

The Georgia RX-8 Club will be attending the Grand Am Cup Race at Barber Motorsports Park at the end of July. Barber will be setting up a Corral for our organization. Last year our group was invited to join the Speedsource team in their paddock area for a special presentation of the #70 car. Sylvan Tremblay himself opened and introduced his lead mechanic for the #70 car. It was a great experience and one I don’t’ think any of us will ever forget. Not sure what we have in store this year but I can only hope we will be recognized again.

If you would like to participate with us, please post a message here and we will add you to the list of attendees. After we get all the details worked out, we will be able to offer discounted tickets so hold off on pre-ordering. We will let you know when the discounts are set up so you can purchase online.

Lets have a big presence this year and support our RX-8 racers.

L8APEX will be staying overnight. I'm not sure where yet. If the #70 - 3 rotor runs, I assure you, I will be staying for the Sunday race as well. Otherwise, I will be making it a Saturday only event.

It's going to be one heck of a weekend! What time does everything start on Saturday? We'll definitely be staying over Saturday night, possibly Friday night too.

If there are others who need accomodations, let me know and I'll see if we can get a group rate somewhere.

I am working with Barber MotorSports park on special car club rates for this event. Last year we got a small discount plus free infield parking and paddock passes. We were given reserved parking overlooking the track. It was awesome. I hope to be able to work out the same arrangement for our group this year as well. However, it will be probably about a month before the car club is set up to purchase tickets. I will update in this thread as soon as we are set up.

i will of course be in my 8, we cant ride together, that would be to fuel concious of us. And it is very kid friendly, they have trams to move you form one side of the track to the other. TA brought his daughter last year.

Lots of sun, you will want to make sure you have her protected.

Good to know about the trams L8APEX, and good point SilverEIGHT about the sun. I keep forgetting I'm in the South. Summer in England is about 2 weeks if you're lucky and a heat wave is 70 degrees. Her car seat/infant carrier has a sun shade, so I guess that will work, and lots of sunscreen and a sun hat. Thanks for the heads up!

I was doing some checking and most of the hotels within 10 miles of the track are already booked up. I'm going to keep searching, and I'll let you know what, if anything, I find. Ya'll might want to check Lincoln and Oxford which are about 35 miles away if there is nothing closer. I personally live between the two and it takes about 20 to 30 min to get there, depending on traffic. There is a lot of construction between Oxford and Barbers. Just a thought!

If it's open, we're trying for the Comfort Inn (or super 8) in Oxford. We've stayed there due to a hurricane.

There is also a decetn Hampton Inn in Oxford, we stayed there when we did TGPR in January. It would be an option. I will check and see if it is booked up.

I could not find anything on the BARBER website about camping so I wrote an email to Heather. Will post as soon as I here back.

Okay, stupid question, but are the museum and track at the same location? When I do a search by distance for the museum I can find things within a couple of miles, but from the track, the closest is 10 miles.

No official word on whether the GT car will run Barber yet. I spoke w/David last week and it really depends on whether Mazda puts up the $$$. I will speak to them as the date gets closer about having us visit like last year.

Any new news on Barbers?

Tickets for this race for car clubs are not yet available. You can buy regular tickets already but they have not set up the car club purchases yet. Don't worry about tickets getting sold out. This isn't the Bristol Nascar race so tickets will be available even at the gate.

What we plan on getting is a similar deal to last year which was a discounted ticket and a car club corral set up. If I remember correctly, we ended up saving about $10 off the regular price.

Believe me I am on this and will post as soon as I hear back from my contact at Zoom Motorsports, the folks that run Barber. I have emailed the lady a few times and she told me she is on it. I don't want to pester her too badly.

As for tickets, somewhere in this thread, TrackAddict posted the instructions for buying tickets, as part of the Georgia RX-8 Club, and getting the car corral pass. I am not sure which post it was, but it will show you how. You should go ahead and get them now.

Per the Barber ticket web site:

Tickets: Lawn seating (bring blankets, lawn chairs). Children 12 & under free with a paying adult. Ticket includes free parking. Discounts available thru Sunday 9am. (Discounts not available at the track).

So, I have one extra for someone ordering multiple tickets. I can just meet you at the track Sat am for a ticket /$ exchange......You will still need to order at least one online so that you can order your free car corral pass.

I would assume that for Saturday, they will have a count of how many people attending under the GA RX-8 Club heading there are, and that they will provide space accordingly, that seemed to be what they did last year. As far as Sunday, what did you and AC8 do last year, I don't remember? Maybe TA can shoot them an email, since he has been the point of contact for this up to this point.

Not a fan of assumptions. It would be nice to know how they are going to alot us space. Certainly don't want us scattered all over hells half acre. On Sunday, they ASSUMED noone from our club was going to be there, soooo... no soup for you. They were kind enough to park us over by the shitters. Very nice.

Daytona Prototypes & GT

Yeah, the DP & GT cars run on Sunday. I have watched every race this season, and have really enjoyed following it. So I am definitely in for Sunday, they are faster, louder and crazier than the ST & GS guys, and a lot of fun to watch. A few of the DP & GT drivers are also drivers in the other class.

I'll be staying for sunday, as well. If I can't find my tent, I'll just sleep in the car. :mdrmed:

I got an email from the folks at Barber yesterday, just about their new picture gallery. I think I wasted at least 30 minutes yesterday just looking through them. This is going to be a lot of fun. And it looks like our turnout is going to be great, the biggest gathering for us yet. :)

In my group of 7, I'm the only rotorhead. The other guys just like cars a lot.

I am sure anyone and all is welcome to hang out with us as we are a very friendly group but I think only the 8's will be allowed to park with us in the coral. The other cars may get sent to another spot to park. Look forward to seeing you there. Now if I can just decide on if I want to stay for Sunday so I can go ahead and purchase my ticket....

Also need to know if you are driving your 8. Only RX-8s will get to park in the Corral and we need a count so we can tell BARBER the size area we will need.

Heather at BARBER said we would be able to park other cars (sports cars) in our corral as long as they are with our club. Mustang, Miata, Panoz Roadster, Viper... all welcome if you are a friend of the club and purchase through our club registration online.

The turnout for this years club ticket purchase is so much larger than we expected that we are concerned that if we are not careful, we will not be able to get all of the RX-8's in the corral. Last year we had about 12 participants and as of right now we have 50 people on the registered list here on this forum. That is a HUGE increase and much more than we could have dreamed of participating. Because of this TrackAddict and I are concerned that if we do not allow the RX-8s to have a contiguous area that some of them may be left out due to space limitations and that just would not be fair to the RX-8 Club.

So, TrackAddict will be contacting Barber tomorrow and letting them know how many people it looks like we may be having (could possibly exceed 75) and see what our limitation on space is. They may say 20, 30 or 40 cars. I have no clue! Let's see what he finds out and post here for us. I hope you understand the dilemma. What a great problem.

What I'd like to see happen is that we keep all RX-8s, RX-7s and other cars in a contiguous section within the corral with the RX-8s being up front or to one side.

Everyone registering through the club will get a ticket discount and can come to the corral even if we run out of space.

Let's just see what TA comes up with.

Yes, all of us will be in the same area but we will give the 7's their own section inside the corral and the 8's will have their own section but all will be inside the GA RX-8Club corral according to TA's conversation with Barber yesterday. Look forward to you guys joining us.

haha, it is my car. It is not really an action shot, it is what happens when I pull out of my boss's driveway. I have always felt it teeter on two wheels when I leave his place, and finally thought to take pics of it.

I have to check the GA RX-8 club forum more often. BTW, the RX-7 is now track worthy! I'll post some pictures if you all want. The Front sway was a bitch to get on, and it much bigger than stock. Coilovers are next, those have to be custom fabricated with some welding. I'm excited and my neighbors hate me :)

Off thread---but swoope has posted a new flash out. engines can have oil starvation issues at light cruise conditions causeing a lost of compression and blow by through the seals etc--no tsb yet. always knew my car ran better with pre mix.

Anyone watch the Rolex from Mid-Ohio yesterday on Speed! Man, that BMW had wings when he crashed on that last lap. The Pontiac really pissed me off. He could not get around the BMW. He kept trying, bumping, nudging... then he sent him flying. Really pissed me off. Glad the driver was OK. Six or seven end over ends was a wild ride. Two end overs in mid air. :SHOCKED:

Thornton road works for me. There is a Walmart on that exit if you take a left off the ramp from I-20 heading west. Or if you take a right off the exit there will be an IHOP where some of us could meet early and catch some early morning grub before we head out.
