View Full Version : Gold Wheels = BLING? Tim Tam 03-28-2006, 08:51 PM I can't decide if gold wheels are too over the top. What do pople think? And what about white, is that tacky? takahashi 03-28-2006, 09:28 PM I think white with stud is a bit foul. For that wheel should be silver. Gold is :nono: for that wheel. If you want white, try some simplier design. ZOOMBY 03-28-2006, 09:30 PM yes mate  I reckon gold will be too much for the colour of your car :nono: . Get White Rims mate!!! :ylsuper:  takahashi 03-28-2006, 09:33 PM Well I think some wheel are nice for Tim when it is gold. A TE37 Volks Racing wheel for example. That design is the same as Kallis??? timbo 03-28-2006, 09:51 PM Up to you, of course...but white wheels, IMHO, are like white shoes...very 80's or, in car terms, Pulsar Reebok :puke: Why not go after the BBS's on the .com.au site? Napboy 03-28-2006, 09:52 PM actually, those wheels look ugly in any color. however, gold goes nice on blue and black, but pretty tacky with the others, imo. jmaluso 03-28-2006, 09:59 PM The gold looks great but the color combo kinda reminds me of a World Rally Blue STi! DO NOT GO WITH WHITE WHEELS! Yuck! :( Joe Revolver 03-28-2006, 10:05 PM Agree with Taka - if you go white, needs to be simpler. Horsley's mob fitted white Volks to the turbo cars (at the Nats and featured in Wheels last year - I've still got the issue if you want to have a look) and I think it looked effective. Disagree with Timbo and suggest he had a bad 80's. ;) :mdrmed: Gold can be a worry. The only rims I would consider in gold are the MazdaSpeed MS01's, which can be had in gold and are anything but bling - fantastic wheel IMHO. However, I think your major problem is the colour of your car - I see gold wheels on blue cars and immediately think Subey Sti. Appreciate the 8 looks nothing like but the colour combo of blue and gold just screams that to me. Only get chromeys if you plan on moving next to Waldo so he can polish them for you. ;) :p: Revolver 03-28-2006, 10:06 PM The gold looks great but the color combo kinda reminds me of a World Rally Blue STi! DO NOT GO WITH WHITE WHEELS! Yuck! :( Joe Ah, Joe beat me to the punch on the Sti thing - great minds and all that Joe (except for white rims - the right kind can look good). Revolver 03-28-2006, 10:08 PM Why not go after the BBS's on the .com.au site? heh heh, there's a few people sniffing around those. One of them rang me today to compare notes on offsets, etc. Tim Tam 03-28-2006, 10:11 PM I was thinking exactly the same thing re STIs. Can't have that, can we? I LOVE the look of the Mazda Aust turbo when it had the white wheels and speed stripes. Perhaps that's the way to go! I really like the deep dish look of some wheels, the BBS' look a bit fussy for my liking. takahashi 03-28-2006, 10:13 PM You see simple design works for the white wheels. I think I asked them and they said they are 19" Volks Racing TE 37s Revolver 03-28-2006, 10:21 PM You see simple design works for the white wheels. I think I asked them and they said they are 19" Volks Racing TE 37s Yep - 8.5 fronts and 9.5 rears. Not too sure about the stripes though TT. Tim Tam 03-28-2006, 10:24 PM The stripes are the best part! I love the speed stripes on the new Ford GTs. They make your car go faster you know. Here's my poor attempt at fitting a set of BBS. timbo 03-28-2006, 10:26 PM Yep - 8.5 fronts and 9.5 rears. That'll dial in a lot more understeer, won't it? :hahano: labrat 03-28-2006, 10:27 PM Why not go for those revolving spinners on the wheels that the blacks and hispanics in the US love? Also, I saw an exhaust stub with LED lights on it in Crazy Clarks. Cool. timbo 03-28-2006, 10:28 PM Here's my poor attempt at fitting a set of BBS. Hmm....maybe not so good. The problem with more spokes is cleaning the brake dust, although fitting EBC Reds has reduced that heaps for me Revolver 03-28-2006, 10:32 PM They make your car go faster you know. Here's my poor attempt at fitting a set of BBS. Then you should have got a red one. :mdrmed: Trust me on the BBS rims - they look great in the metal. Still, a matter of personal taste. Revolver 03-28-2006, 10:33 PM That'll dial in a lot more understeer, won't it? :hahano: Think they were planning on the FI mods overcoming that. :mdrmed: Revolver 03-28-2006, 10:34 PM although fitting EBC Reds has reduced that heaps for me Ditto. As to cleaning them - if that's worrying you just get some shadow OEM rims - good camouflage for brake dust. :mdrmed: auzoom 03-28-2006, 11:20 PM I have to say...I dont mind the gold in general, so long as its a dull gold not "yellow" gold, but agree on the STI look looks comments. White i just dont like and silver....ehh how can you go wrong. My 2c!! Andrew xxup 03-29-2006, 01:44 AM Why not go for those revolving spinners on the wheels that the blacks and hispanics in the US love? Also, I saw an exhaust stub with LED lights on it in Crazy Clarks. Cool. They are the drug dealer accessory - go well with those gangster gun platforms the 300C... :mdrmed: Gomez 03-29-2006, 03:43 AM I agree with Revolver....gold wheels are very Subaru.....errrk! I like Horsley's white wheels.....on red cars anyway :) . labrat 03-29-2006, 05:40 AM They are the drug dealer accessory - go well with those gangster gun platforms the 300C... :mdrmed: ...and I thought that was the look... gold wheels, white wheels, pink wheels... kunz 03-29-2006, 07:27 AM mate, those white ones look hot! go teh white! JDM_RX8 03-29-2006, 08:54 AM Mmmm..... my personal opinion is neither gold or white look good on that style:wallbash:, i personally like the white one better, like takahashi said, the Volk Racing TE37 will suit ur car, other option maybe Volks GT-C or CE28N, or maybe the SF-challenge, but i dont think they're available in white:nono:, like Revolver said get 8.5 fronts and 9.5 rears will be perfect for the 8's :ylsuper: Tim Tam 03-29-2006, 03:34 PM Choosing wheels sucks, I'm yet to find any pics of a Winning Blue with mags that look good. Damn me for picking the fastest colour! Revolver 03-29-2006, 04:03 PM Choosing wheels sucks, I'm yet to find any pics of a Winning Blue with mags that look good. Damn me for picking the fastest colour! I feel for you mate - took me an age to decide. However, don't rely on pics alone - some wheels look much better (or worse) in the metal. cleoent 03-29-2006, 04:41 PM I'm not an aussie, but a WB 8 could pull of gold rims quite nicely IMO. I think it would look great. Just say no to white and chrome though :( Revolver 03-29-2006, 09:40 PM I'm not an aussie, but a WB 8 could pull of gold rims quite nicely IMO. I think it would look great. Blue Sti's are probably less popular in your neck of the woods. :( Gomez 03-30-2006, 09:04 PM Choosing wheels sucks, I'm yet to find any pics of a Winning Blue with mags that look good. Damn me for picking the fastest colour! I love EZZY's current wheels, whatever they are. If I was ever in the market for wheels, I'd look at those I reckon. Tim Tam 03-30-2006, 09:39 PM Yep, I agree. They're probably the front runner at the moment. Gomez 03-30-2006, 09:49 PM What are they? Are they 19's? Help me out here.....I'm new, not too sure how the search button works.... :mdrmed: Tim Tam 03-30-2006, 10:56 PM Oh you're so funny! Ezzy's are 20s, these I think: Revolver 03-30-2006, 11:10 PM Yes, they're 20's and if that pic you posted isn't them it's as near as dammit. Revolver 03-30-2006, 11:11 PM .....I'm new, not too sure how the search button works.... :mdrmed: Like, whatever... :D: EZZY 03-31-2006, 12:18 AM TT, what style/theme are you after? imo, i think silver would be "normal" for most ppl, and white is more JDM (ie. japanese domestic market) style, and bronze is more rally style (think the wrx rally cars). but then again, it is your car, do whatever tickles your fantasy. yep thats the one i have atm, i have the shadow grey ones and Kunal have the chromed version. me thinking of new wheels when i get back to sydney....... ;-) MissyK 04-01-2006, 06:52 PM TIM - get whatever rims you want, who cares what others think as long as you like them. White, black, chrome, hell even get bloody hot pink rims, who gives a toss what others think. Tim Tam 04-01-2006, 07:14 PM me thinking of new wheels when i get back to sydney....... Um, does that mean you might be looking at selling yours soon? EZZY 04-01-2006, 08:00 PM Um, does that mean you might be looking at selling yours soon? no TT, my rims are pretty schatched up and you probably saw one of the front tyres got chewed up abit (from last cruise :Freak_ani )..... i dont bother selling my rims anymore.... i get alot better deal just by trade them in with tempe tyres..... was drooling over at their new forged wheels the other day...... its time to do a deal soon... btw, dont know about you, but i wouldnt want my rim too look like other ppls..... its just me  shinka213 04-01-2006, 08:27 PM I think it depends on the color of your car and also the type of rim....some gold rims are really too BLING BLING but others light the Gram lights are really noice...I went thru the same decision process for my black cherry....I was considering gold or bronze...but after careful deliberation ie looking at rim styles, available styles and a good photochop to see which color looked the best I went with Axis Hiros in bronze....I originally wanted the gram lights, they would have been my first choice but they didnt come in 19in Shinks Tim Tam 04-02-2006, 05:35 AM btw, dont know about you, but i wouldnt want my rim too look like other ppls..... its just me  Try and throw me off from copying you all you like, it won't work! Actually, I agree. But if two 8s in diff cities have the same wheels, I can live with that. Perhaps not in the same city if they drive together much, they'd look like the Bobsie Twins. MissyK 04-02-2006, 06:26 AM Try and throw me off from copying you all you like, it won't work! Actually, I agree. But if two 8s in diff cities have the same wheels, I can live with that. Perhaps not in the same city if they drive together much, they'd look like the Bobsie Twins. I guess you both have different color 8s too. However those rims I showed u Tim look awesome, even in the chrome. And i dont think any1 else has them or would get them. I think they are limited to that supplier i told u. The wheel nuts are very distinctive - how did you get them so bright? Are the anodised? Assume paint would simply chip off. takahashi 04-02-2006, 10:02 PM They are APX nuts - remember you handed me one of those last Oct? Im_DANomite 04-02-2006, 10:09 PM they are aluminum anodized lugs. i have a special socket with an aluminum insert, so it will prevent any sort of chipping or scratching. timbo 04-02-2006, 10:12 PM Gold wheels look good with the blue ;) Wheel nuts are available from Fueltank Autoparts. EZZY 04-03-2006, 03:27 AM Try and throw me off from copying you all you like, it won't work! no, not at all..... :scratchhe happy to know that other ppl liked the same wheels as i am..... i used to have these ones on my 8 in 19", pitty they didnt come with 20" when i got them, now they do....:suspect: http://www.tempetyres.com.au/content/products/bg_FIVE-C-15.jpg i can almost see these babies on my poo brown rx8.... :Drooling_ :wink2: http://www.tempetyres.com.au/content/products/bg_AF120.jpg Revolver 04-03-2006, 07:36 PM I really like the second rim you posted there Eric. Go buy them so we can see! :lol2: Tim Tam 04-03-2006, 08:05 PM You all bag the gold wheels on the blue 8 thing, then Dan posts his pic and you rave about it! You're as bad as a pack of women....... Ezzy, what brand is that second one? Love the deep dish! Revolver 04-03-2006, 08:23 PM You all bag the gold wheels on the blue 8 thing, then Dan posts his pic and you rave about it! You're as bad as a pack of women....... You'll never be accused of subtlety Tim. :mdrmed: I like the Volk wheels on Dan's car but the colour combination is still not my taste - I just think it's rude to bag someone's car when they go to the trouble of modding it and posting pics of it, so I only commented on what I liked - the quality of the photography and the rims themselves. IMHO, Dan's wheels would look much better in alloy but that's just my taste. Maybe he wants his wheels to stand out more - hence the coloured wheel nuts. Diversity is what makes this car fun to play with. It is possible to respect the choices of others but ignore them when it comes to selecting your own mods. If you like the gold with the blue go for it. We'll give you heaps about being a Sti wannabe but that's just because we like you. ;) :rollingla Now excuse me while I find my handbag.... :mdrmed: EZZY 04-03-2006, 10:05 PM Ezzy, what brand is that second one? Tim Tam 04-17-2006, 03:31 PM Went to a wheel shop last Thursday, a fairly large one in Canberra. They only had about 3 diff designs of 19s that would fit, and they were listed as SUV wheels! I don't think they'd be real light. MissyK 04-17-2006, 05:12 PM probably not. maybe u just keep ur stocks for track then. how they can only have 3 designs that fit and only SUV. geez bloody canberians ;) EZZY 04-17-2006, 05:39 PM i think there is an ozzy tyres store in canberra..... someone also mentioned that tempe tyres is alsp opening up a store in canberra Tim Tam 04-17-2006, 07:14 PM Yes, there's an Ozzy out in Fyshwick (out amongst all those "dubious" establishments). Tim Tam 04-17-2006, 09:34 PM Yes, I'd be interested in seeing those a bit bigger. Instead of going 1/4 inch as they appear to be, I was thinking of 19s! eclps0 04-17-2006, 09:34 PM u ask and u will get Tim Tam 04-17-2006, 09:38 PM Hey, I don't mind those. Bit small perhaps, what size are they? See, gold wheels can work with the blue! Tim Tam 04-17-2006, 09:41 PM What about these? Bloody nice photo this. EZZY 04-17-2006, 09:57 PM i like them TT. looks like a staggered setup.... do you really want that? just go in and ask them (nicely...) to put the interested ones next to your 8 and see.... ask for warranty if available.... Tim Tam 04-17-2006, 10:01 PM Yes, those are staggered *sigh* Looks great, but from what I've read I'm not interested in dong that. Those ones are 19" Axis Hiros 9.5R 8.5F. I see Tempe carry those, I really need those guys to come to Canberra! Wonder if they're a pricey wheel? EZZY 04-17-2006, 10:13 PM send them an email to find out. anything above 18" can be pricey.... factor the tyre(s) replacement into the equation! Sqz 04-17-2006, 10:26 PM Hey Tim, Tempe are in Canb. Steve MissyK 04-17-2006, 10:42 PM ooooo excellent Revolver 04-17-2006, 10:55 PM What about these? Bloody nice photo this. I like those TT. However, agree with Eric on the staggered thing. You've no doubt read the sticky on it in the Wheels, Tyres & Suspension forum. (don't like those gold ones much though). Revolver 04-17-2006, 10:57 PM BTW, since it sounds like you've decided to go for 19's, what are you going to use for track rims?? Gonna keep your OEM's after all?? Tim Tam 04-17-2006, 11:00 PM Wow, Steve has come up with the goods! I've never heard of them in Belco, but I'll head out and have a chat to them. They have quite a few designs I like, more so than anyone else. Steve, I tried Quikfit in Woden, but they were no help at all. Gave me a catalogue to look through but couldn't answer any questions of fitment, weight or even price. Tim Tam 04-17-2006, 11:19 PM BTW, since it sounds like you've decided to go for 19's, what are you going to use for track rims?? Gonna keep your OEM's after all?? Good question. It all comes down to how much I'm allowed to spend. I'd love to keep the stockers for track days, and go 19s for cruising, but I'm not sure if I'll be allowed to spend the full price of new 19s and tyres. May have to subsidise the purchase by selling the stockers. Or if she gets REALLY cranky I may have to go new 18s and keep my half shagged tyres. :tear: I'm thinking of growing some balls and just going out and doing it without telling her. :FIREdevil MissyK 04-17-2006, 11:22 PM you men need women that love cars i would be an encouraging gf/wife hahahhaaahaha Tim Tam 04-17-2006, 11:29 PM Is that an offer? Tim Tam 04-20-2006, 01:56 AM Exactly, look out Taka!!! takahashi 04-20-2006, 01:58 AM What is going to do with me... I am looking at low 12s. I get 14s in 20 laps mate... better work on it :spank: I am bring Glenn up this year. Watch out he is quick. Tim Tam 04-20-2006, 02:04 AM We're getting off topic just a little, but geez I'm impressed more with this little car every time I take it on the track. It was the quickest car in the road class easily yesterday, quicker than the 350Z turbo (driven by some "hero" in full race regalia), and quicker than an STI fitted with a Detroit locker. Why a 4wd needs a locker I don't know. There was also a tricked up CV8 that flew down the straight but was SO slow around the corners. Dave, those MX5s continue to impress, put some sticky tyres opn and they're not that far behind us. seymore15074 04-20-2006, 02:11 AM On a WB...definately go chrome. Tim Tam 04-20-2006, 02:28 AM BLING BLING! Then I'd NEVER hear the end of it, these guys can be brutal. takahashi 04-20-2006, 05:26 AM Bling Bling mate.. I think do that and the guy behind cannot see the road in front  Tim Tam 04-20-2006, 06:43 AM That's right Taka, you won't be able to see a way around me at the Nats......... Revolver 04-20-2006, 05:56 PM What is going to do with me... I am looking at low 12s. I get 14s in 20 laps mate... better work on it :spank: Taka, frankly with all the mods you've made, all the track work you do, not to mention the slicks you were running, you SHOULD be that quick. ;) And I reckon if TT fits slicks he'll be all over your butt at this year's Nats. Those interested in times posted at last year's Nats can look here - http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results.cgi?22/10/2005.WAKE.XXX.I.Y You'll note Taka has a bit of work to do himself before he hits low 12's. :p: Revolver 04-20-2006, 05:58 PM Dave, those MX5s continue to impress, put some sticky tyres opn and they're not that far behind us. Exactly. ;) I'm working on it but it'll take a while. Fallout levels are still too high to revisit the bombed territory. :suspect: :wiggle: takahashi 04-20-2006, 06:59 PM Taka, frankly with all the mods you've made, all the track work you do, not to mention the slicks you were running, you SHOULD be that quick. ;) And I reckon if TT fits slicks he'll be all over your butt at this year's Nats. I wonder I should come up on an open track day and have some fun over the winter :p: Tim Tam 04-20-2006, 07:11 PM I have work to do :p: That is very true... I'll be there. :ylsuper: Revolver 04-20-2006, 07:34 PM I wonder I should come up on an open track day and have some fun over the winter :p: You should - would be great to see you down into the 13's. :) Besides, imagine how insufferable TT will be if he beats your best lap time. :Freak_ani Tim Tam 04-25-2006, 11:08 PM Getting back on topic, just found these. Love the dish, it's almost deep enough. Revolver 04-25-2006, 11:19 PM Hmm, don't think they're my go but if you like them go for it. What size are you getting? EZZY 04-25-2006, 11:50 PM like them... what are they? cant beat the classic 5 spokes design! Tim Tam 04-25-2006, 11:58 PM TSW Thruxton. You can get a 5" lip in 20x10. Hmmmmmm. Can't find anyone in Aust who sells them though, just sent an e-mail to an NZ retailer. Tim Tam 04-26-2006, 12:10 AM What size are you getting? Still not 100% sold on anything, I'm changing mind from one day to the next. I'm as scatty as Kalli lately! Leaning towards 19x8, with a 245/35 for the road(?) Revolver 04-26-2006, 12:11 AM Leaning towards 19x8, with a 245/35 for the road(?) Wouldn't 8.5 be a better width for 245's? Tim Tam 04-26-2006, 12:20 AM I thought so, yes. But the fitment guide seems to think 245 is the go on 8inch rim. Tim Tam 04-26-2006, 12:24 AM Here's the link. Do they speak crap? http://www.tsw.com/details.php?wheel_id=1102&table_name=Mazda_RX_8_2004 Revolver 04-26-2006, 12:24 AM Oh, there's no doubt the 245's will fit on the 8.0's but you've no doubt read that some have been disappointed with the loss of turn-in feel and a sensation of tyre squirm when pressing hard. As you know, I've fitted 235's to 8.5's and they fit great. Revolver 04-26-2006, 12:27 AM Here's the link. Do they speak crap? http://www.tsw.com/details.php?wheel_id=1102&table_name=Mazda_RX_8_2004 Some of the other guys know a lot more about this than I do. As I said above, I'm sure all those would fit. However, I reckon Mazda stretched the 225's onto the 8.0 OEM rims for a reason and when I changed rims I was anxious not to lose that sensational feel and balance. So far, I think I've achieved that. Tim Tam 04-26-2006, 06:10 PM Those TSW rims are $560 each, could be a bit pricey when I add freight. Doh. Revolver 04-26-2006, 06:26 PM Those TSW rims are $560 each, could be a bit pricey when I add freight. Doh. TT, for comparison purposes, the Enkei's I got are $590 each (landed and retail). Never mind, keep looking and you'll find something to suit you. Have you softened up 'er indoors yet? takahashi 04-26-2006, 09:06 PM JDM imports are selling some nice G grams for $699 each... :( EZZY 04-26-2006, 09:20 PM oh yeah TT.... check out the JDM import "pre-loved" pages.... i will have to look for the link when i get home.. or taka can link it up for you in the meantime takahashi 04-26-2006, 09:32 PM Mine is so at home but it is in the nissansilvia.com page. Do not go there too often. I should be the one that snaps the one perfect fit for me ;). Just drive to Syd TT... to see their range in stock - some are very very nice. EZZY 04-27-2006, 12:19 AM sharing is caring brother..... :cwm27: Revolver 05-02-2006, 07:23 PM Bump! :mdrmed: Hey TT, what's the latest? Tim Tam 05-02-2006, 08:41 PM Not much, heading out to Ozzy Tyres this afternoon, just to see what they've got. Revolver 05-02-2006, 09:27 PM Have you received the marital green light yet or are you still just sneaking around and hoping she won't notice the shinier wheels? :mdrmed: Tim Tam 05-02-2006, 10:06 PM she hasn't actually said "go ahead, but I think she's given up fighting it. I think I may be able to keep the stockers too. Revolver 05-02-2006, 10:11 PM she hasn't actually said "go ahead, but I think she's given up fighting it. I think I may be able to keep the stockers too. Act now then! Best to strike while she's weak. Sooner or later she'll find another supply of "NO" pills and then you'll have to wear her down again. :mdrmed: Good idea to keep the stockers. Semi-slicks are your next job. Tim Tam 05-03-2006, 05:47 AM K, visited Ozzy Tyres this afternoon and they were alot of help. Got home and had "the talk", and I've been approved! Full steam ahead now, just have to visit Tempe to decide on a wheel.
