Question:
With all the different colours that Mazda is offering, is anyone else skeptical that we'll be getting the body colour-keyed interior inserts, like in the seats, steering wheel, etc.?
Right now, the best information indicates we'll be getting the RX-8 in grace green, black, red, yellow, titanium, silver, and blue pacific (or some variation of those colours).
It would be both difficult and expensive for Mazda to offer different coloured bits of interior in all those colours. Not to mention some would be ugly in an interior (like green, in my opinion).
How many of you think its more likely we'll only get the colour inserts in 1 or 2 colours, like red, yellow or blue, or perhaps they'll be dropped altogether?

Who knows... :)

Or, maybe they'll come as options, or with an option package (such as a part of the leather seating package).

Or they may even have some of the bits like the interior inserts, like the gauge cluster binnacle, available as aftermarket accessories. That's just a wild-ass guess, but think about all of those cell-phones out there will removable faceplates. Think about the palm-pilots with customizable exteriors. Think about the Apple computers that you can switch the plastic shells to get different colors. I'm not saying that it will be something that will be as "clip-on/clip-off able" as a phone faceplate, but I wouldn't be surprised if a car came out with that kind of ability for the aftermarket.

But again, that's nothing but a marketing idea. The different colored interiors could have been to dress up the show car, and the production car could just have a conservative interior (look at past examples of show car vs. production examples).

Well, let me ask this: how many of you would mind it if your car didn't come with the exterior-coloured inserts? I don't think I'd mind if my interior were just monochromatic, with a few silver accents, such as chrome-ringed gauges, shift knob inserts, etc.

I'll take any color interior as long as it's black :)

The only combination I care about is black on black and I would love it if there was red accents or maybe just throw in some red race seats with five points.

I love the two-tone leather in the seats and on the wheel. I think it adds to the uniqueness of the vehicle. I for one would be VERY disappointed not to be able to get one that way.

Two-tone yes, colored, no.

I'd like to see it as well.. a nice dark blue would contrast really well with my black leather :)

Now, a dark blue, or a dark red, or even a dark green accents on black would be okay. Those colors won't "wear" on you. But if you put some extremely bright, high-contrast yellow, silver, white, neon red, or whatever, then it will start to "wear" on you after awhile. It's great for show cars, because it "snaps", and people aren't seeing it everyday. But get those bright colors in the car, and they will not only wear on you, but they will show every piece of dirt, and every scratch and dent.

I'd rather have a muted color scheme, with minor accents.

I think I'd rather have an all-black interior. Since I would probably get the car in either white or silver, I think body-colored interior accents wouldn't look right.

Just as there are many people who have followed the evolv into the rx8, there are going to be many different opinions about the car, and color won't be excluded. Personally, I think that the accents are ugly and I hope that they don't make it into the 8. I think classic complementary or contrasting colors should be offered. For instance, my favorite (silver/red leather) or titanium with red leather or black with red leather. Can you guess I like red a lot? But they could go one step further and do what Audi did in it's A6. For instance Silver/red seats and door inserts with black carpeting and dash, or white with tan seats/door inserts and blue dash and carpet. IMO those color schemes were delicious:p Any hoot, I think Mazda will have classic color combos. Their designers have great tastes.

You could always rip the seats out of a 2002 Sentra SE-R Spec-V! :p
Act fast, because Nissan realized their mistake and for 2003 the Spec-V comes with silver on charcoal seats!

i agree... those bright colours in the V-Spec Sentra are an eyesore IMO, and the seats feel, i don't know... plastic (i did sit in one... didn't get to drive it, my x-gf's uncle's car)... i like the ones in my parent's friggin Matrix better :p

but about the thought on 5-points... not from the factory, no one would want to buy the freakin' car 'cause they're just too much hassle... 3 point seat belts (the normal kind) are MORE than capable of restraining occupants under normal, or even "spirited" driving conditions in the event of an accident... but 5 points aren't going to make the car much safer anyway...

Five points are foolish in a car without a proper roll bar.

Commenting on the other thread where pictures were posted as "evidence" that there will not be colored seat inserts:

I worked on the 2002 Thunderbird at Ford. Many of our prototypes had all-black interiors. Yet, the production can was available with color-keyed seat and trim inserts.

I will admit that colored inserts are a matter of taste. For me, give me silver/titanium with a black and red interior!

Good point. I just took a jog over to Ford's (canadian) website. "Interior colour accents" will set you back an additional $995!
I'm sure if Mazda offers coloured seat inserts as an option, they won't be that much coin though.

Personally, I'd want a black interior with a dark red (or maybe blue) accents and a black exterior ... unless I change my mind in 7 months.
