No. It was always 240ish as far as I can remember.

It was always 240hp. 00-03 was the 8900 redline, then the 04+ got bumped up to a 2.2 with noticably more torque, but highly reduced redline. Now for 06 it's rated at 237, but it's the same thing. The 01-03 models put out about 200whp average on the dyno, and the 04+ put out about 210whp.

This is also further proof that the new SAE standards and testing are still laughable, or the '06 RX-8 is more powerful and they aren't saying anything. The S2000 routinely dynos around 20whp higher than the RX-8 yest with the new standards they're only 5chp apart, what a joke.

I don't think the RX8 has been re tested yet from what I remember. Without a newer model or engine change I think it was voluntary to do.

If there are any major changes, such as is rumored with the 2007 model year, we will likely see a new figure. likely about 230hp or so given what I've heard from others with a chasis dyno.

I love how the euro version is 228hp, which in my opinion, is a good conservative rating for the car....and its been that way since it came out. I now look at euro HP and fuel consumption stats, as I feel they are more accurate for most cars.

There are a few things to consider. The drivetrain losses are different for the 2 vehicles (The RX8 diff for example is a much bigger, beefier piece. They brake regularly on abused S2000s and seldom ever on the 8s). The other possibility is that our friends twisted the truth to the end and the average numbers were 215 to 220 flywheel on the 8 and we may see an increase on the 06 cars on chassis dynos soon (200 or so). They never gave a credible reason for the long delay on the 06 cars. My guess is many bugs were being worked out and the 06 cars are superior. Now how's that for a conspiracy theory. :)

A little hp difference doesn't make much difference in performance and don't trust your butt dyno.

I won't be shocked if the '06 dynos higher and/or is a little faster than the '04 and '05.

I doubt the RX8 is even 232 hp. If we dyno at 180 whp (which is what most of us did/do) that is closer to 210-215 hp at the crank. Hell, I would easily believe the 228 European hp before the american origianl 250, then 242, then 238, now 232 hp figure. As for the 06's being more powerful. I'll believe when I see it.

With the Canzoomer & other mods they have gotten the cars up to around 200-205 whp, right about where the S2000 are. The S2000's I haven't seen anybody come out with a ECu mod for (yet). Might be maximized from the factory.

I will say the power difference is quite noticible between my 01 S2K and my old 04 RX8, but who knows if I may have had one of those slower rx8s. With the old ratings you had the S2K only 2hp above, now it's 5 above. The S2K from 04+ has kept their rating the same on hp, yet got a 10whp gain.surpassing the RX8 further in actual hp. That right there only proves the innaccuracy. That's just the way it is, and always will be.

one problem is that the rx-8's show a lot of diference from one to the other, on our last dyno day we hat 4 rx-8's, 2 dyno in the 180 rwhp range , one in the 190 and 0ne 204 rwhp, so there are bugs that need to be iron out in the car i hope mazda gets it right for the 06 because it has been prooven that the engine with only tunig can get to the 204 - 205 rwhp

All ratings are 'just numbers' I guess you could say but they have some added scrutiny for the purpose of accuracy under the new standards, helping to eliminate the games manufacturers play.

Did the car with 204 have 0 mods?

yes, the only diference was that the car was an 05 the other 3 are 04. theres another rx-8 that dyno at 198 rwhp stock but at a diferent time.

one thing that just came to me is that some of the cars are american models and some are japanese models maybe the japanese cars dyno better? in my country we have a mix field of cars, the cars that are sold directly from the dealer are left hand drive but their ecu progran is the same as japanese market, the cars that are directly imported by the owner are normally from the USA.
