View Full Version : Anyone buy their RX-8 for near invoice?
ozbot87 08-08-2003, 06:47 PM From what I have been reading so far, seems like that the majority of the RX-8 owners have been paying MSRP or near-MSRP for their cars. Has anybody tried to purchase the car for invoice or near-invoice price?
This doesn't include any rebates or incentives, just pure haggling between the customer and the dealer.

PoLaK 08-08-2003, 07:41 PM I bought mine for $300 under invoice :D
ozbot87 08-08-2003, 08:50 PM
Wow! You guys should share the sercet!
Or do you guys like to keep your secrets to yourselves?;)
HughNemets 08-08-2003, 10:34 PM This car is a bargain at msrp...plus which the dealers are entitled to make a 9% profit for their investment, don't you think?
HughNemets 08-08-2003, 10:37 PM If anybody tells you they paid 300 over invoice, they're either lying(buyers really are liars, or they stole the trade ), or the dealer is just plain STUPID

Just post a scan of your sales order and no one will doubt you again.
classicred 08-13-2003, 07:10 PM I paid $400 under list.
See my longish post under Dealership/Ordering/Financing in RX-8 Discussion section.
myrx8 08-13-2003, 10:34 PM I paid invoice price on my car. The dealer tried to add a "$1,500" transportation charge for getting my car to me in three days. I saw that and balked at him and started to walk out. He then agreed to invoice. Gave him the money and I was on my way.

Call me skeptical, but I'd like to see your sales order, as no one's been able to get one for invoice (MSRP, yes, invoice, no...)
myrx8 08-15-2003, 11:37 AM Sorry, I mean't MSRP - My bad.
loco4rx8 08-15-2003, 09:44 PM Got mine for $250 under MSRP. And I was darn proud! :D
This dealership had a $2500 markup on all RX-8's when I walked in. I simply told them I wasn't going to pay any markup when I could go to any other dealer in the state and pay MSRP, and they didn't give me any argument and immediately removed the markup.
I know the $250 isn't much, but it sure did help me psychologically. I never thought I'd pay MSRP for any car. At least I can still say I haven't. LOL!
I paid the invoice price for my RX8 which was $33,100.00 but was only available (you astute buyers will recognize this by the sticker price) with the GPS Navigational System. Either buy or wait 6 months for the next allocated factory delivery. I decided this was the best excuse I ever had to buy the GPS! :p
IwantONE2 08-18-2003, 02:50 PM I think some of you don't know the difference between invoice and MSRP.
I was able to get $1000 off of MSRP, mostly because my first order was destroyed in the train derailment and my dealer didn't want me going to another dealer. Outside of my own circumstances, $500 off of MSRP is about the best i'd heard of.

THAT is a MSRP price. Check it out on the Mazda website. An invoice price is what the dealer pays for the vehicle, not you paying the sticker price.

DITTO.

I doubt it.
But then again it could be just because I'm pissed I didn't wait and buy one from the showroom for MSRP or less. At least 10 have been avialble since I picked up mine. When your car is the first one around and the dealer doesn't care if you actually buy it or not you loose what, if any, bargaining power you had.
Excuse me for venting...

Ditto again. Honestly, I'm very satisfied I got mine right at MSRP. I believe Mazda could have priced the car higher from the start, so I feel I got a bargain, especially for owning this vehicle earlier then most.
On a related matter to that, my wife took the car to her brother's in Ft. Myers, and everywhere she stopped, she got gawks and inquiries. She kept getting comments like, "NICE car! I bet it cost close to 50 grand, right?" Must be that Italian flair to the body. Anyway, this car looks much more expensive than it is. Everybody is so surprised to find out we paid only 35k for it.

I stand corrected. The $33,100.00 price was MSRP, not invoice (I should be so lucky.)
I picked the car up yesterday afternoon (08/18/03) and I have to say that I wanted to sleep in it last night but my wife made me come in! WOW! What a great vehicle. Driving up to Rockport MA today just to enjoy it and try to get a handle on the GPS system.

That's ok. Sometimes I think one thing, and type another.
Glad you like your car & enjoy driving it. I should be able to say that soon - enjoy driving it. :D
In regards to the GPS Nav, my wife loves it. Here's a story. Just for curiosity, she programmed her brother's address in Fort Myers when she took her trip, even though she can get there with her eyes closed (not driving of course ;) ). Anyway, she wanted to go to a fast food spot close to him, before she went to his house. When she passed his street to go to the resturant, the female voice said, "you need to make a legal U-turn". She had to laugh knowing that it said that, and it had a sense of lawful driving rules.

What I love about the GPS is that if you know a quicker way to get to a location than presented by the system, it will re-program your position and approach to the destination. I am amazed at how much help this device actually adds to the drive. Yes, she almost sounds like "make an illegal U-turn"!
Zaphod 08-20-2003, 01:22 PM A dealer just agreed to sell me a silver 6MT GT with Appearance, Spoiler, and Moonroof Deflector for $31,500. The MSRP on that is $32,470.
I did this by calling the dealer and saying I wanted a 6MT GT with Appearance, Spoiler, and Moonroof Deflector and I wouldn't pay more than $31,500.
Not sure if I'm going to take that deal, though. Our local dealers are expecting several new ones to arrive any day. I want to see several color side by side before I choose. Plus, I would have to drive an hour and a half to pick that one up. No biggie, but I have other options.
myrx8 08-20-2003, 07:20 PM If you can wait, which is going to hard - prices will go down.
But trust me - the price you pay for the car is worth it. Whenever I go anywhere - everyone loves it.
The attention getter value is worth a few hundred.
cruzdreamer 08-21-2003, 03:43 PM Only reason I tried this is a finance guy new a Mazda dealer and I went back to mine and asked them to match it. I think I could have gotten more off......hmmmmm........car being built this week I am told.
RX-8 2004 08-21-2003, 06:20 PM Best deal

I'd be willing to bet that you wouldn't get that close to invoice on a 6 MT GT, but I could be wrong. Anyway, congrats, you got a great car at a great price.
Zaphod 08-21-2003, 08:38 PM Well, I finally did the deal. All is done except the final John Hancock and picking it up, hopefully on Monday.
I got $1,200 below MSRP (that's under $30k) on a 6 MT GT. I am very happy! The reason I got such a (IMHO) good deal is because they couldn't get the car I wanted with the accessories I wanted at the price I wanted and I was going to go elsewhere. They were really nice and offered to cut the price so that I could afford to purchase the accessories separately. It ends up being a better deal in the long run.
BTW, I got financing through my credit union at just over 4%. All around, it's a better deal than I expected and now I can go forward with no regrets or second thoughts.
myrx8 08-21-2003, 09:18 PM Well, I guess the dealers are backing down on the prices. I'm just glad I didn't pay more then sticker.
emailists 08-22-2003, 01:45 AM The deals are out there. Every dealer in NY except one wanted MSRP.
I know my dealer in NY- WHite Plains Mazda just got a whole shipment in. They offered $1000 off MSRP right over the phone.- ask for Peter- he's the manager.
I am picking mine up tomorrow- I cant wait

I worked my deal hard for about 2 months, before they even received their first shipment. They probably did it just to get rid of me. :D
WTF no turbo 08-24-2003, 07:07 PM Had a grand under deal 34495 i think was msrp i got it to 33495.Then the hp thing hit and i almost canceled called my dealer and he said he would do another 300 plus the 500 debit thingy and the maint extension.so i got a 1300 under deal plus 500 from mazd and the maint contract. That all being said i wouldnt pay msrp for this car and now with hp issues u dont have to.to all the buyers already taken delivery i have one thing to say TAKE IT BACK!!Get a refund of your deal then turn around and rework another deal on a used car.
SARmedic 08-24-2003, 10:30 PM For those about to make their deals make sure the dealer doesn't factor the 500$ rebate into the price... that's a separate deal.
kadunkadunk 08-25-2003, 09:39 AM What do you guys think? I would think that with the lastest blunder, we can now negotiatie.
Thoughts? Flames?
cruzdreamer 08-25-2003, 10:35 AM Most definitely I feel we have the leverage to negotiate...they don't want underpowered RX 8's sitting on their lots and they probably don't want people like me on the hook to walk away.
ozbot87 08-25-2003, 10:44 AM You think Mazda might lower the price of the car altogether?
cruzdreamer 08-25-2003, 02:16 PM Don't know if they will do that but negotiating sure would work I suppose. I'd wait and see if you have not purchased one yet.

I agree but not a used car
((((they will not be for sale, unless you work for mazda)))
another NEW ONE>>. and if you payed over MSRP>>>>> do it for sure...
make that car your loaner,.. from the jerks who thought they were overcharging you!!!!
buy below MSRP a brand new one from an honest dealer....!!!!!
and your safe...incase they lower the HP again... lol
RX-Nut 08-27-2003, 02:20 PM From what I've been reading, it looks like if you paid over MSRP, you wont get a full refund.. MNAO will determine how much to refund you. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Yesterday (08/26/03) I had the opportunity to read the official letter to dealerships from Mazda about the 4% HP reduction and vehicle return/service agreement terms. The letter specifically writes that Mazda "expects" the dealerships to fully refund whatever amount was paid by the consumer for their RX8. What this might mean for a less-than-scrupulous dealer, who knows?
The dealership sales manager where I purchased my RX8 had not read this letter, just skimmed it, but it was handed to me by my salesperson for reference. This original salesperson then went out to the lot and recorded the VIN numbers off of my RX8 and then (mistakenly) asked me to sign a document that all NEW buyers must sign where they acknowledge that the HP is different than in the brochures, etc. That could be a big mistake!!
The problem here (as I see it) is if I sign that document then I may be eliminating my chance of seeing the service contract or vehicle return. Beware of what you sign!! There is a mailing and document coming from Mazda. Don't sign anything else unless you have read it and know exactly what it is you are signing! After pointing this out to the salesmanager I think he FINALLY actually read the Mazda announcement for the first time.
On the other hand, it seems like Mazda is expecting good faith customer support and will look for full refunds of returned vehicles even if they were marked higher than MSRP. I would suggest that everyone ASK what the dealership policy is and then report back here wherever there seems to be a problem.

no, there's no reason to.
dealers will just have to start selling the car under MSRP.
the Miata's MSRP was never lowered after the HP issue back in 2001.
tough cookie huh :o
RX8by 08-27-2003, 07:08 PM Sorry guys, I just picked up my car last night. I paid $28882 for my car. I purchased the one with the GT package 32,100. I walked in on the 15th and their was just this snot nose kid and the business manger. I wanted to know if the Ford Partner Recognition Program was available for the RX8 he said no but he would give it to me at that price after a while. I jumped on that. I had to wait until the Red color came. Then I read this post and saw the deal on the $100 test drive a Mitsubishi. I did that, while I waited. Then the $500 cash and free service zoom, zoom zoom. down to the dealer. $28882 -100 -500- 1500 (est service) = $26782. Gee same as the Honda V6 MSRP and I don't even miss the -8 HP.

Nah, I'd settle for around $30,000 for an RX-8 with almost all of the available options (I can do without Navigation.).
alphaman60 08-30-2003, 02:57 AM I was able to get mine for $1000 over dealer invoice. It was at the Madza dealer in Annapolis, MD. They claim the deal is only good for Labor day weekend (Internet customers only).:)
ST.James 08-30-2003, 10:42 PM Well I'm going to pay 400 under mfr price this monday for my gt winning blue rx-8. I think its because I bugged the hell out of them every week, but I bet its because of the 10 grand down payment.
myrx8 08-30-2003, 11:25 PM Anything at sticker or under is great. I would ever pay more then sticker.

by 'sticker' you mean MSRP or Invoice?
myrx8 09-01-2003, 08:04 AM I mean MSRP - the sticker on the window of the car.
tagS60 09-05-2003, 09:57 PM This car is a bargain at msrp...plus which the dealers are entitled to make a 9% profit for their investment, don't you think?
No.
Sorry, but this is sucker talk. The dealer must have seen you coming from a mile away.
chopsticker 09-08-2003, 01:55 PM Velocity Red with Grand Touring Package and Rotary Accent for $29900. MSRP is $31239, so $1.4k off of MSRP. That doesn't include the $500 college rebate.
drb7451 09-09-2003, 01:12 PM I am the Internet Sales Manager for several Mazda Stores. We do not add to the sticker price and are willing to sell for less than the MSRP (sticker) to any internet customers. I also have one automatic currently. Sorry, but that one will go for the MSRP - no discount.
My dealerships are located in Texas, and you would have to make visit to the store to finalize (no shipping / no delivery). I'm not advertising here as this is not the place for it. AND I do not believe in mark-up's over the sticker - it's stupid.
If you want to get in contact you can email me at davidbrown@myworldcar.com.

Wow how things are different in the US, in Canada if you want an Automatic it would be easier to find than a 6MT, because nobody wants an auto sports car and of course Mazda pretty much only shipped autos!
Ok that's not true that they only shipped auto's but they did ship a bunch that people didn't want.
sohcpunk 09-11-2003, 05:57 AM anybody in SoCal get a good deal on their Rx-8? I'm looking into getting an auto with sports package which MSRP is 27,500. If anyone knows a dealer in socal that can get it 1000 under MSRP, it would be great, thanks!
