there is no best intake, it comes down to preference. Kinda like saying, which is the best car...

Your car comes stock with a Cold Air Intake system.

So you think the intake in the 8 is a cold air intake? Good thing it is. My measurements of air temps were enough to make me change the intake. When the outside was 90 degrees the intake temps were often 130 to 135 degrees. You would think that once you get underway the temps would lower to something closer to what the outside air temp was...it doesn't. They do come down slightly, but not much. Even with the install of the REVi Ram air the temp only dropped about 15 degrees below what I was seeing before its install, so the intake air temp is still high....nothing close to what the outside temp was. If the OEM intake wasn't already cold air I would hate to think what the intake air temps would be.

Anything you can do to lower the temps...do it.

I'd rather have Mo Naked Hoes than Po Ta Toes anyday.

Just go for sound. Performance for an intake isn't much of a difference here. as for going cold air intake, there are only AEM, Racing Beat (w/ ram air duct), and the Mazdaspeed CAI (which isn't out yet).

I found the SR Motorsports intake to be very good. It works great with the racing beat air duct.

really,
i find with the revi and the duct if i am moving over 20 mph the difference in oustide temp and intake temp is ~8deg f. if i am going over 100 the temp gets real close to the oat.....

this does not count if you are dealing with stop and go traffic and the whole car is a heat soak.

question for mikefrombarrie...
does the sr intake actually line up w/ the air inlet or is it like the k&n which doesn't line up???

Swoope,

Had you done any measurements before you put the duct on? With the duct I got the delta to drop by half so the temp rise is ususally only about 15 degrees over outside.

I noticed that the car revs alot quicker then before, but its not a huge gain.

I had to modify the VFAD, all you have to do is cut off the piece thats circled in red and attach it to the Racing beat air duct, the fitment is excellent!!

I am going to start my turbo install next week, so I will take some pics of the setup

no,
got the scanalizer after the revi and duct. i am just amazed to watch the temp drop as speed increases.

I just installed an aem intake.Noticable difference but idles rough and whisles while idling. The CEL came on once and turned off about 200 miles later.I dont know if it was related because its done that once before the intake was installed.Istallation was a pain considering that iv never been into the import scene{dawm fiberglass bumper}.Im used to my chevy.mid range sounds kinda ricy around 4k but sounds bad ass once it hits 7k-9k.metal pipes gets pretty hot for being a cold air intake.hot pipe=hot air.

I installed the AEM about a week ago. HUGE difference that you can feel, best one out there i think. It sounds great too, gives your engine a bit more "Vroom"

The install, is a pain in the ass since you have to remove the entire front bumper. The instructions say that you have to lift up the car and remove the front two wheels to do it, but I did it in my driveway without that. Took a bit longer to do it i'm sure but I still managed.

not that I have noticed. sounds like you might have an air leak or something. did you check to see if everything was tight?

the only problem I had was the first time that I fired up the engine after installing it, the car wouldn't rev past 5500 but that was because i didn't completely remove the vaccuum thing. The instructions that i got with my AEM CAI weren't the best. I think they were one of the first versions they made. I bought it on ebay about 5 months ago for $140(including shipping), just havn't had time/weather to install it till now.

my instruction wernt the best either and i thought there was an air leak too but check and found nothing.doesnt whisle until warmed up. some time it goes away randomly for a few minutes, and it idled rough before intake and i think it alittle worse now but im not to sure

I checked for it today, didn't hear any whistle. I did however, hear a really feign high pitched whine, but I think that's just the engine spooling up (or something like that). It didn't sound out of place. My idle didn't seem to have any problems, was steady at 800 RMP.

yeah it is more of a whine than a whisle but same thing so i guess it must be normal

^WOW! This thing's back from the dead! I didn't realize it until I read the MazdaSpeed intake wasn't out yet. I was like, whaaaaat? Haha.

I have the MazdaSpeed CAI and I really like it. I didn't notice any performance improvement, but then again, I knew that when purchasing it. I love the way it sounds, though! Let's face it, though, there's not a whole lot you can do to tap power out of the rotary without going forced induction. Oh well. Way to give life back to a three-year-old thread!
