rx8wannahave 02-03-2006, 05:33 PM LS and GT..... :tear: :icon_no2:
They say they want to give us what we want, we shall see...
Really, my biggest disapointment is not the GT...but the LS. Now, they have one less RWD car...what a shame...
playdoh43 02-03-2006, 08:04 PM their value is about to explode eponentially over time. since its inception Ford has always stated that it will be a 1 year run.. Ford has other stuff down the pipe too
moRotorMotor 02-03-2006, 08:21 PM Wasn't there a thread a little while ago about a problem the Ford GT was experiencing? Something with security that the Ford dealers couldn't solve. I believe Jeremy Clarkson was one of them and he was pissed.

In the UK, insurance companies require immobilisers of a certain type or classification. Roush UK retrofitted all the UK-bound GTs with that security system. It was the Roush-supplied security system on the UK-spec GT that gave Clarkson problems. None of the North American GTs would ever experience that issue.
Tigster 02-03-2006, 10:26 PM you cant blame ford for dropping the GT now that the Z06 is out and handles and performs very very close to this car for almost half the price. They need to do something else.
The LS needed an update and the v6 version was scrapped for the new sedan. They were only going to offer the v8 for the LS so it doesnt surprise me that it is being cut.
RotoRocket 02-04-2006, 02:17 AM It does suck that Ford pulled the plug on the LS, too.
I wasn't crazy about the LS, as it was getting long in the tooth, but it would have been nice for Lincoln to update rather than eliminate their premium rear drive, european-esque model.
The Corvette Z06 is perhaps the best value on the planet in the sports car category, but the Ford GT was literally a street ready race car. The GT is precisely in the same league as other true exotics, which the Z06 only nipped at the heels of.
yiksing 02-04-2006, 03:15 AM I saw the GT test drive review in BMI, sorry to say its not very impressive, I respect Ford trying to resurrect something classic but taking a Ferrari apart and uses its measurement to build it just isn't right in my opinion (I know it happens to lots of other cars but this GT is meant to be a supercar so I think it should not be "borrowed".
bascho 02-04-2006, 11:30 AM The Ford GT is not being pulled because of problems or low sales....it was intended to be a limited production car with a life span of 2-3 years max. Ford will be replacing the GT with either the Shelby Cobra or the Shelby GR1. Ford wants to make all three available to the market....but only one at a time.

They sell the Jaguar S-type in the US, don't they?
So, no point in the LS. And if they don't currently sell the S-type, perhaps they will.
The Lincoln brand is nearly as stale as Oldsmobile.

The Jaguar S-Type is built on the Lincoln LS platform.
Just like the X-Type is built on the Mondea platform.
SHOWOFF 02-04-2006, 05:50 PM Sigh...just when they got something right for once.
Ok before everyone jumps on the screw Ford bandwagon, you need to understand something first.
The Ford GT was NEVER supposed to be a car that would be produced for more than a 3 year life cycle. It was only supposed to run for 3 years MAX when it was OK'd for production. Jay Mayes stated that there will now continue to be a "halo" car that will come out of the Living Legends Studio every couple of years.
The 2002 T-Bird was the first of these cars. The GT is second and the next car is the GR1. Shown here:
http://www.cardesignnews.com/news/2004/040813ford-gr1/images/ford-gr1-06s.jpg
The Cobra concept at the 2004 Auto show was the next for consideration but didn't make the cut. When the GT bows out the GR1 will be the next one to arrive. These cars are not designed to generate profit, they don't do anything but draw attention. They get people excited about the brand and generate new sales and incremental business for the company. It shows the customer "what if".
They didn't "pull the plug", "axe" the car or "kill it off". The GT was never supposed to be a permanent thing.

There will be a next gen LS car to replace it built off of the new DC3 platform. Here it is. The new face of Lincoln. The MKS

SHOWOFF 02-04-2006, 05:56 PM I'd rock this in a heartbeat and I am NOT a Lincoln fan in any way shape or form.

Wow. It looks like a Hyundai.
Still, Ford are running out of ideas. The Iosis - the concept car replacement for the Mondeo-segment in the UK - looks like:
A Mazda RX8 from the front (check out the lights, gills and arches)
A Jaguar or Aston Martin from the side.
Has doors fundamentally ripped off from the Sera/McLaren/Enzo.
Has a totally bland tail vaguely like a Renault Laguna II.

I see, but while I like it...I'm not sure if it looks better than the LS or not. I guess once it comes to market we shall see...
BWheeler981 02-05-2006, 05:12 PM The next gen LS looks an awful lot like the Acura TL.
Japan8 02-05-2006, 09:24 PM their value is about to explode eponentially over time. since its inception Ford has always stated that it will be a 1 year run.. Ford has other stuff down the pipe too
Ditto. Ford never intended to keep making the car forever. It was planned as a limited edition run. That's why the Shelby Concept and Cobra Concept cars were built... they are possibilities for the next Ford halo car.
Japan8 02-05-2006, 09:41 PM I dunno about the MKS... I may like it better in person like the new Lexus IS and GS (the GS is HOT in black!). But from the pics... :eyetwitch And Ford had BETTER offer it with a manual transmission (no not a SMG/DSG, but "four on the floor") on the high performance model. Jeez... you'd think these fools (Lexus included) would learn something from BMW.

Uh, ok. And having similarities to an Aston is somehow a bad thing?

Good info Showoff. I just want to correct your typo, the platform is CD3 not DC3. The MKS is a bad-ass ride and it will fit nicely with Lincoln's plans for the next few years.
Japan8 02-07-2006, 10:22 PM ^^ it is FWD isn't it? If so... no thanks.
Volkov 02-08-2006, 01:13 AM I'm having some trouble understanding Ford marketing and advertising strategies. First commercial to come out: Bill Ford announces that he's taken back complete control of the company, he shows pride in the fact that Ford is a family run American company, he shows pride in the fact that Ford is built in America, and he shows pride in the American working man. What does ford do the next week? Announce that they will be shutting down 8 plants in America. Commercial number two: Intro starts with a GT40 carving through the streets, then a Mustang pulls up beside it, finishes with the racing heritage of these two cars. What does Ford do the next week? Announce that they are stopping production of the GT40. Are these departments not communicating? Or is this just a lame attempt at protecting the brand's image to the typical naive American consumer?
Red Devil 02-08-2006, 08:11 AM I liked the Shelby concept, would be great if Ford built that next. And I recall them stating it would be much cheaper than the GT.

The plans were to have a V-10 and the car would be priced under $100k. I love that car. I get to sit in the Chrome painted one at the auto show here in a couple of weeks.
Red Devil 02-08-2006, 05:15 PM How lucky for you, which auto show is this?
