View Full Version : Anyone in Birmingham, AL? ALBlueRX8 01-24-2006, 04:03 PM Hi! I just got my 2005 RX 8 in December. Haven't seen too many of them around town yet. Hope to see more soon!!! misterwilson007 01-25-2006, 08:12 PM Yeah....there's not that many 8 owners from the bham area on the forum. I'm here though.......as is onofiveo and one or two others. We're hard to come by!! ScreaminRX8 02-08-2006, 09:05 PM Well I am not in B'ham but I am close in Talladega misterwilson007 02-09-2006, 09:23 AM I work close to talladega..... peterlemonjello 02-09-2006, 06:13 PM I'm in B'ham. ONOFIVEO 02-11-2006, 03:36 AM What's up Mr. Wilson. Haven't seen you around in a while. Howdy ALBlue. I'm here representing the 'ham too. I don't come over much, usually send my days on the "other" side of the web. Enjoy the drive. Herblenny 02-18-2006, 07:25 AM CAMS is having a Tech day at the Trussville Mazda today. I don't own an 8 but me, DON (HDP), and couple of other 7 owners will be there today. Also, we will be re-organizing the MRCCAL again.. Hope this coming year, we'll have more gatherings (ie, trips to LeMans race in ATL, Races at Barber Track, Deals Gap event, Visit Jim Downing's shop in ATL, etc). rxeightr 02-18-2006, 07:45 AM HB, Please give us some notice so we can plan to attend your events. I really want to make some of your gatherings. L-Co 02-21-2006, 04:26 PM Oops! Didnt see the notice about the Tech day at the Trussville Mazda until today. Definitely, would like advance notice so I can attend in the future! Thanks!! Lisa (formerly ALBlueRx8- too cumbersome a name) peterlemonjello 02-21-2006, 04:40 PM What's Tech Day? TrackAddict 02-21-2006, 06:31 PM CAMS is having a Tech day at the Trussville Mazda today. I don't own an 8 but me, DON (HDP), and couple of other 7 owners will be there today. Also, we will be re-organizing the MRCCAL again.. Hope this coming year, we'll have more gatherings (ie, trips to LeMans race in ATL, Races at Barber Track, Deals Gap event, Visit Jim Downing's shop in ATL, etc).Stay tuned for Barber info - last year the GA gang attended the Grand Am Cup race there and met the SpeedSource team. We got discounted tickets and a special car corral parking in a primo spot. I have been in contact with the organizers and we hope to have a similar program. It would be awesome to show up with 20+ cars and root for the rotary powered Grand Am Cup and Rolex GT racers. When I get the deal finalized, I'll post a thread with the details. You will be able to buy tickets online. L-Co 02-23-2006, 08:13 AM Thanks TA! That sounds fun. Herblenny 02-25-2006, 01:39 AM Sorry about that guys.. I don't usually get on RX8 forum (since I'm a 7 owner). The tech day is thru CAMS (Central Alabama Mazda Society). Annual fee is $20, but its well worth it. I was going to go but I was sick with the flu. I think the next gathering is in May?? Best person to contact will be Rotary Taz (Ernie). So far I haven't had a day off in 2 weeks and I know this coming weekend I will be stuck here at work too! Ah, it's not fun to have a new car and can't even get a chance to cruise in it good yet. Probrably the 2nd weekend in April would be good for me, there is about a 90% chance I'll actually have the time off. Thanks to all for the warm welcome! ONOFIVEO 05-02-2006, 04:10 AM If there's not a route already, I ran a short one over the weekend. It was 35-40 minutes, from Grants Mill to Rex Lake passed Barber, through Leeds to Hwy 119 to Lake Purdy, along Secard Hollow Rd (behind Liberty Park) to Hwy 280 for lunch. If we want something longer, I've had a suggestion of driving Hwy 25 from Leeds to Calera (near 29 Dreams). I yet don't know the time or distance. Has anyone done Hwy 25? It's a popular route with lots of curves. What say ye on a route? Lunch? BTW, I passed a blue 8 at I-459 & Grants Mill Rd Monday evening. Was that you L-Co? L-Co 05-02-2006, 09:34 AM The Grants Mill Road route sounds good to me. Looking forward to it! Yep, it probably was me you saw. Yesterday I thoroughly enjoyed my drive home from work since the weather was so nice. Windows down, moonroof open, and music blaring. I didnt see you! misterwilson007 05-02-2006, 01:49 PM that sounds good to me Ono...I'm not very familiar with the area, so I'll leave that decision to all who are. ScreaminRX8 05-02-2006, 04:33 PM sounds good to me also, I am somewhat familiar with the area. misterwilson007 05-04-2006, 09:07 AM Some guys here @ work were telling me about a silver 8 that hit a jeep yesterday over by the summit. They said the car was heavily damaged in the front. Hopefully no one was injured. With that being said...is everyone's car ok?? ScreaminRX8 05-04-2006, 08:06 PM Well my car is fine... Hate to hear that. I saw a silver or Titanium one on I-20 near Oxford this afternoon, was that anyone in here? ScreaminRX8 05-04-2006, 08:32 PM Have any of you had any dealings with Med center Mazda's service/ parts dept? How come Trussville Mazda has cheaper parts since they are owned by the same people? Makes no since to me at all and I asked the question last time I was at Med Center and they could not tell me. I have a guy that works there and he can't get the parts as cheap as they sell from Trussville and he gets them at cost supposedly. Just curious L-Co 05-04-2006, 09:30 PM I bought my 8 from Med Center back in December. So, I've only had one experience with their service (had an oil change in March). No problems. But, I know the Parts Manager, Brian, at Trussville Mazda fairly well. He has gotten me a few parts and has been extremely fair, helpful, and fast. I cant explain the cost difference between the two places, but will ask next time I see Brian. Good question. L-Co 05-08-2006, 02:05 PM Everyone still on for Saturday??!! L-Co 05-18-2006, 11:49 AM I saw a lady driving a gray RX8 this morning at Brookwood hospital. It had a sunroof and she looked like she had dark hair. Unbelievably, she looked at me and I waved. Yay! ScreaminRX8 05-18-2006, 12:24 PM Sorry L-Co I must have missed you asking that. I hope there are more people that can show up. misterwilson007 06-02-2006, 10:05 AM Hey everyone...a couple of weeks back i swapped out my oil (royal purple), tranny (redline), and differential (redline) fuilds with synthetic. You can really tell the difference, especially with the tranny fluid swap. The car shifts much smoother...like a hot knife through butter. The engine seems to rev much more smoothly and my gas mileage has increased dramatically. I normally averaged about 220 miles per tank. Now I'm averaging about 270!! I'm really saving on gas, considering I'm driving about 100 miles a day. I've almost hit 60K miles and the car is performing better than ever! Also, I've stumbled across 2 quarts of castrol 5w-20 in my garage that I have no use for now so, if anyone's interested, I'm giving them away....free to a good home!! Now for the good/bad news....I've recently recieved a job offer that I would be stupid to turn down, so I'll be moving to tuscaloosa by the end of the month. Not to worry though...i'll still try to make our future meets.....if we ever decide on a set time and place! misterwilson007 06-02-2006, 10:07 AM BTW...i just ordered my ms cai yesterday. When it arrives I'll install it and my UR pullies, which have been sitting in my closet for about a year or so. I'll report back on the results ASAP.... any ideas for the 16th? how bout some pizza somewhere?? I'm now working in Grenada, MS, and trying to find a house here and sell one there. Where you met is only a few miles from my house. Hope I can find groups for both my cars here (MR2 & RX8). Ron L-Co 06-16-2006, 11:25 PM Hey Ron! I asked someone last night had they heard if you'd moved. We missed you there yesterday, and needed your green car to round out the colors. Good luck to you! LisaWell, the car was right down the hill from you; my wife works (or rather, now worked - her last day was Saturday) at Pearle Vision in the Target shopping center. We haven't moved yet, but are trying to buy a house here. Made an offer on one, and waiting on a reply. Hope it goes through, because they can be out fast and we can move fast. So far I have seen no RX8s and very few Mazdas here, and only one MR2. So we'll be kind of unique with each! Ron misterwilson007 06-19-2006, 03:22 PM I installed my UR pulleys and MS CAI over the weekend @ my dad's shop. Everything went smooth for the most part. Install took about 6 hours total. I was taking my time just to make sure I didn't make any foolish errors. So far I'm very pleased with the results! ONOFIVEO 06-19-2006, 08:45 PM Next date: CAMS Tech Day on the 24th!
