Hey everyone!!

I just found this forum today and I'm very excited. Im a 26 year old girl from Surrey, B.C. and I just bought a Silver 2005 Brand new RX8!!! I drove a 92 Acura Integra previously and just thought it was time for a new car!! I love the RX8 because its sooo different!!! I don't see many of them out there.

A little about me... I graduated from SFU in 2001. I completed a BA in Psychology. I am currently a Human Resources Generalist at a HR Firm. If you want to know more about me or the new car add me to msn or email me at trendyangel@msn.com

Can anyone give me tips as I am a brand new RX8 owner!! Any would be appreciated!!

I pick up my RX8 tommorow morning :) I am looking forward to attending some meets and getting to know some of you.

Welcome welcome Angel. You're going to love the car! What exactly did you get (GS/GT? Nav? etc).

Make sure you break in the car properly too! There are a couple of different thoughts on this .... do a search and you'll find tons on the break in. Oh, stock up on oil because the rotary engine loves to drink that stuff!

Other than that ... ZOOM!

ps. Rotten will likely tell you about the curse of the silver and claim that red is the fastest (when we all know blue is).

Where did you buy it?? Freeway, Wolfes or the one at the SS auto mall??

I bought it from Freeway Mazda. I did check out the titanium one at Wolfe but it was a 2004 and had 30,000 km on it, so i opted for the brand new one :)

But I must know what is this curse you speak of :)

There is a long standing joke on here that silver 8's get into more accidents..this came about early on cause the crashes all seemed to be silver :D:

I think there is something too it though...I've almost been hit twice. The light silver gray color is hard to see in low light....so be careful :)

As far as tips...take it cool on the motor for about 600KM...vary the rpm a lot and don't rev the s**t out of it till then. After that rev it lot's...it will run better. The worse thing to do is drive it at low rpm's all the time.

Check the oil lots...every 2nd fill up at least. The motor injects oil into the motor....so it will use about 1 litre beetween oil changes.

The biggest thing is don't start it...and shut it off before it warms up.....if you do it could flood the next time you try to start it....let it warm up before you shut it off.

Check out some of the sticky threads at the top of the forums...you will get good info there

Welcome to the club! Great colour choice.
Another piece of advice; buy winter tires if you have any snow or temperatures below 5 C. TireTrends is a good place to get them.
Also make sure to get clear corners 'cus the stock markers look like crap on the Silvers!

No, you don't HAVE to put premium.. some people use 87.. I don't but I alternate 93 and 89. It just says premium is reccommended.

Just because gas has a higher octane rating and costs more does not mean that using it is "babying" your car or that it is the "good stuff".

Yes, we have a high compression engine. However, the Mazda says Premium is RECOMMENDED not REQUIRED.

Aside from the additives they add to premium to clean your injectors, etc.. You really only need the octane rating that runs efficiently in your car without causing pre-detonation or engine knock.

The higher octane rating does not provide more HP or burn any better. It merely burns later under compression, thereby allowing you to run a higher compression engine or tune yoru engine using higher ignition advances.

So stock, an 8 running premium is most likely wasting $$ unless you are running ignition advance or are having engine knock using 89.

Some people on this site run 87 without knock. I got knock with 87 down here in FL, but not 89. I alternate just for thecleaning additives sometime.

i tried using 87, got terrible gas mileage (14-15mpg) now i went back up to 89 im getting 18-19mpg. im waiting for the weather to get warmer to try 92 octane, but thats what i used in the beginning and ive never gotten better than 19mpg. fwiw...

It won't shrink i it gets wet :D: Just don't take it through any of the auto car washes....or your paint will be toast in no time. Get used to the cold drizzle wash in the driveway...or take it to a good place like Golden Touch

Figured I would pass on some info for those of you who are in the greater Vancouver area.
If you havent checked out the duffy lake thread, check it out, it was great the last 2 years, and since Starlight is from the area, then maybe she will be interested, and pass it on to anyone else with an 8 who is up for going.

LMAO You guys are so funny :) It's nice people like you that make me smile and make this club really worth it. People who drive RX-8's not only have good taste they have wonderful personalities and good spirits about them too!
