View Full Version : Mods and predictions for 06'
mikeyr 01-11-2006, 10:32 PM I decided that this forum was getting a little bogged down, we need some new threads!
So I thought it might be interesting to see what people have on their mod shopping list for 06'. Then later in the year we'll bump this thread and take stock (or what's not stock in fact) and see how everyone's progressing and what side alleys (Rev/Ezzy) people have been up.
I myself am going to start 06' with a car! I'm going throught the internal debate of a low mileage leather 04' or a longer in the tooth 03' pov pack.(so i have no wories about a non existent warranty and more cash to bolt on)
I have the bits off the old beast and I'm particularly keen on some new wheels. I'm also going to bolt in a Nav system and I am wondering about a carputer / touch screen with added scananlyser. Would appreciate useful opinions.
And I'd also like any info if anyone has upspecced their audio, cause I'd miss the subbie etc if I went Pov. (oh and Chris's damn MS kit is sorely tempting, must check out the carmate pack)
So who's going to launch in with their wish list for 06????
mikeyr 01-11-2006, 10:37 PM Lets have the wish list and the probable list Kal!
Revolver 01-11-2006, 10:37 PM I'm well advanced with new wheels (see thread).
Otherwise I'm not planning anything this year. I'm happy with a street directory and don't think my driving needs a scanalyser or anything like that.
I like the MS bodykit too but they want too much for it.
If $$ are good and Hymee's S/C kit is released before Christmas I'll think hard about it though (if only to get Adrian off my back with those weird Hal instructions).
I was hoping an SP model may have been out this year, so since an upgrade is out of the question, Mr Hymee may be gatting a call later this year.
but I gotta do the Hymee after i have the challenge with Taka
Revolver 01-11-2006, 10:40 PM Oops. almost forgot - I've got my shiny new globe set all ready to instal so I can get rid of the yellow parkers, reverse, etc.
Can you say "xenon look" :jerkit: :bling: :D: :D:
Gomez 01-11-2006, 10:41 PM I bought a Euro lip spoiler off Ebay......I'm tracking it right now. Should be here in a day or two.
Revolver 01-11-2006, 10:42 PM but I gotta do the Hymee after i have the challenge with Taka
Taka's also been challenged at Mallala by the new chick on the .au site (RotorConvert). Sounds like she can walk the walk too.
Might be an expensive trip for you Taka... :D:
Whoops, sorry Mikey - back to mods.

I like her avatar and her attitude - sounds like a cool chick. Races Alfa's or somethin' and calls her bloke "the War Dept". :D:
Sorry Mikey - back to mods.
ILIV48 01-11-2006, 11:08 PM Well I am in the throws of doing a proper seat and removeable harness for the track (who came up with the stupid idea of putting leather seats in a convertibe - 3rd degree bloody burns on my bum).
Then a Cold air Intake, catback and then Extractors. Might also do a bigger throttle body at the same time as the intake. Just spending a little of the money I was given back :yumyum:
Ohh... also getting a set of semi slicks in the next few months for trackdays and very very tempted for some H&R coilovers but going to put that money on the morgage instead :icon_no2:
Although this MX5 is a new model the parts coming out for it are just so much cheaper than for my 8
Gomez 01-11-2006, 11:21 PM An MS front would top that thing off real nice, Stu.....
Revolver 01-11-2006, 11:44 PM Hey Stu, want my OEM wheels to use as track wheels for your 5?
Or are they too big??

This is the official Mazda Mazdaspeed roadster that will appear in a couple years. A higher performance version of the 5 rumoured to run the 2.3 that is in the up coming MPS Mazda 3 (detuned from the MPS 6).
Ohh God I want that bodykit. I did price the mazdaspeed bodykit that is available now and still looks great but all up $4000 US plus $1700 US shipping
ILIV48 01-12-2006, 12:08 AM Hey Stu, want my OEM wheels to use as track wheels for your 5?
Or are they too big??
Thanks but no I do not need wheels as I have my OEM wheels from the 5 sitting in the garage as the first thing I did when I bought it was put some nice enkei's on it to be a little different.
Brian Goodwin from Goodwin Racing posted a picture on his site ot their new MX5 with the wheels from his rx8 bolted on. Way to big, but did look comical :mdrmed:
mikeyr 01-12-2006, 12:11 AM Damn another mazdaspeed kit that nails it!
It's come down Stu.....eventually!

A kit that good looking will hopefully get knocked off here once the new MX5 becomes more popular. Then I'll look at getting that. The original kit will never be what I term affordable but a good replica... Yes.
Don't you just love those wheels. Like the wheels off a Ferrari.
playa78 01-12-2006, 12:37 AM nice :)

sjb266 01-12-2006, 03:39 AM Good thread!
I was debating whether to get the Hymee exhaust, and grill kit... Lowered ..and maybe some new wheels...really like the enkei's too!...also want a supercharger..but who doesn't!
I'd love to get a new MX5 ...i think they look just great and are getting really good writeups! ...Now to find the $45000..!
ILIV48 01-12-2006, 04:23 AM /cough z4 /cough
You think... Interesting! Went back and looked at that picture for ages and don't really see it! I thought more like the older Z3 M Roadster myself!
I don't really like the Z4's angles they look awkward to me!

The writeups are not that much better than what the 8 got when it first came out. Now forget the MX5 and get the Hymee exhaust with some nice lowering and Enkei's... Sweet
sjb266 01-12-2006, 05:22 AM Can anyone recommend what the best way to go about lowering the 8 would be..?
Just new springs.?... or the whole 9 yards...coilovers etc...?
I won't be doing much trackwork ...maybe just a day here or there...
realistic list:
non at this stage
possbile wish list:
hopefully the 8 will be replaced by a new toy by end of '06
takahashi 01-12-2006, 05:54 AM My mod shop list for 2006?? :dunno:
I am having coilover done. Going to HK to get my Tein Flex + EDFC. :smoker:
Then I will shop for calipers - Ric will get my nod :yesnod:. Also rear pad and rotor change
Then, most money will go on maintainence. Fluid change and tyre change etc.
---2007: Back to the engine mod. And Motec.
e5cape 01-12-2006, 05:59 AM last week - installed my fenderstrakes and rx8 logo rear accent
TOmorrow - getting my Amuse titanium catback exhaust install.
next week- installing whiteline sway bars
the week after- ordering the MS rear spoiler from the state
in future - looking to replace my 19'' rims with , probably Rays gramlight 57 pro
or G-Games 99b .. or ..
Nocty 01-12-2006, 07:07 AM Maybe an exhaust - I miss the "obnoxious" rotary sound. Not sure how it'll go being a lease car though.
Plan B: Drop a 5sp in the RX7 and get a extend/bridge port done on the 12A... Just to compliment the sound from the extractors/open exhaust.
Plan C: Cry. Get over it. Smile anyway because I have an RX8 :)
Revolver 01-12-2006, 09:54 PM forgot to add i want a navigator too lol im sick of flipping through my melways (street directory for those not in melbourne)

No, no, seriously, dont hold back :D Each to his own I guess. I love that spoiler.
Taka, I believe that it is adjustable, but it doesnt bother me if its not...its cosmetic ;)
Andrew
C'mon EZZY...set up a Euro lip spoiler for us to buy :boink: :wavey: :worship:
plans have changed (BIG ones too...), so will see whats happening in the near future.
i still think the 8 looks sexier without any wings/spoilers

:Peace: to each to his own comment! (gees... i had one of those silver aluminium twin deck rear parking bench on my other mazda back in the days :spank: :cwm27: :Eyecrazy: :mdrmed: )
i'd say it "should" be adjustable, the jap should know better than that. the side plates should come off for you to adjust the blade angle :cwm27:
sjb266 01-14-2006, 02:26 AM ...sorry..maybe that was a little harsh!
Each to their own as you say...i'm sure it'd look ok from a different angle with a view of the whole car... i'd think you'd have to have the rest of your car pretty kitted up too though... and some big wheels!
Hope i didn't offend..
:)
auzoom 01-14-2006, 03:13 AM Nah! No offence taken (unless that was what was intended ;))
In its defence its actually no bigger than the OEM mazda spoiler just a little taler (1" I believe).
Andrew
takahashi 01-14-2006, 04:41 AM i'd say it "should" be adjustable, the jap should know better than that. the side plates should come off for you to adjust the blade angle :cwm27:
Affirmative. Just check my RX-8 accessory library.. it is a 3 angle adjustable spoiler... apparently it is similar to what they use for FD3S :aroused:
Revolver 01-14-2006, 06:15 PM Because...like...the car is...like...soooo powerful...you...like...need the extra downforce. :rollingla :rollingla
And of course we all have windtunnels in our backyard to be able to determine what setting it should be on for our trip up to the shops. :suspect:
and like we drive the car fast enough on the streets for it to make a difference.
One word
rice!
:gotrice:
rice!
:gotrice:
i like them fried.... thanks :rollingla
Revolver 01-14-2006, 07:03 PM Mmmmm, had satay chicken on a bed of fried rice for lunch yesterday. Lots of egg and prawns. Mmmmmmmm :wiggle:

Having said that, bet I get more benefit from my lighter wheels than you do with your heavier tail section... :bootyshak :mdrmed:

What wheels did you end up goin with again? Taka's?
Revolver 01-14-2006, 10:44 PM What wheels did you end up goin with again? Taka's?
More than likely. Gotta find a buyer for my OEM wheels first.
I'm going to see what the BXM2's look like next to the car but I think I'll more than likely go with the RP03's.
I still really like the SSR Comp's (Type C's) that LJ has (but in silver) but I couldn't be bothered to import them.
I'll try and post photos when I get them.
So, all of you guys thinking of getting some spare track wheels for semi-slicks - drop me a PM and we'll talk $$. :)
