FE3P has the AFE short shifter. It's nice! Your shifts feel more precise and the throw made my stock 8 feel like a honda shifter. Hahaha He will be at the Jtuned meet. You going?

forget that.....I'm a noob AND a girl and I have one on my car. I LOVE it. It was kinda weird at first but after taking her on a run a through Big Bear....I was hooked. It is so precise (thanks for the word Deedub) and you don't feel so loose in your seat because you no longer need your whole arm to shift. Just a push/pull of the wrist.

i drove kwescott's car, snowfl8k's guy, i think it is the RP short shifter. I loved it very short and precise feels like a reduction in movement by at least 65% back and fourth and forwad and back, i heard the 2-3 shift you feel the greatest reduction it is almost straight up, i want to get one but the price is heaty for me right now $250 new i think. these is also a slight sound transmitted into the car via the shifter but not that bad.

rotary rasp what modifications have you done to your front lights, i saw they were blue in the 2 wrx picture thread and also some night shots showed them blue?

what he said. 2nd to 3rd is a straight shot up. To downshift into first you have to try pretty damn hard so there is no missing third really. Sounds funky but it is REALLY nice when you are in some tight situation and going back and forth between 2nd & 3rd or just trying to get a lead on someone off the line ;)

If you don't want to drop 200 bones...grab a Voodoo knob for $35....is quite a bit lower than stock and your shifts are definitely more precise....you feel more connected to the tranny....the stock knob weighs a ton...

Doesn't the Voodoo knob get hot?The voodoo knob gets hot/cold depending on the weather. It's never gotten as hot as the steering wheel in summer. It doesn't get hot because of the transmission. I've had it for a while, and after driving very hard at are monthly meets, (the cup holders could brew tea), the knob barely gets warm. Probably more from my hands than anything else.
The Voodoo knob alone was a great mod (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=74297&highlight=voodoo), but then I got the RP Short Shifter, and it's amazing.
Install was 15mins.
The biggest difference is when you've driven w/ the short shifter for several months, and drive a car w/o it, you're shocked at how far the throws are.
If you buy it, you won't be disappointed.
Even if you don't like, you can sell it for almost full retail price in the for sale section.
If you're ever out to a San Bernardino meet, you have about 5-6 cars to choose from to test it.

Who sells the shift knob?Team Voodoo (http://www.teamvoodoo.com/Voodoo/Knobs.html) sells them plain.
Knobmeister (http://www.knobmeister.com/KnobsMetal.htm) sells them engraved.
Follow the link in my previous thread for pics of the pearl aluminum knob.

BTW - Some posted in that thread, a suggestion for engraved knobs.
One thing to keep in mind if you're getting custom engraving, the knob will need to make 2 trips. When you first get it, unengraved, you screw it on to the shift post to "index" it and find the point on the knob that faces forward when the knob is tight. Then you send it back for the engraving. That way the engraving can be placed so it's facing the right way when the knob is properly tightened. He makes a valid point. The engraving is off by about 30 degrees too far on mine. I plan to figure out some kind of insert/spacer to fix the problem, but I haven't put that much thought into yet.

Yeah, Richard (Paul) is a good guy. Really knows his stuff. I've talked to him quite a bit. He has a lot of knowledge about the RX8.

I know if HKS made a short shifter for our cars you get one :)....oh, and yes, the install on this is really easy. You'll hit yourself in the short shifter for doubting your ability to install this yourself. The DIY was helpful for the first install, now I can do it in my sleep.
