Lightbulb A "Don't Flood This Car!" Placard (for valet, etc.)

I'm planning to make a placard to store in my glove compartment that I can place on the gear shifter when I am placing my car in the care of others, such as valet parking, repairs, body work, etc., that educates the user of the risk of flooding.

I'm thinking of using the following language:
IMPORTANT

DO NOT shut engine off while engine is cold!

The engine design of this car is prone to flooding.

If you must move the car a short distance, let it idle for a few minutes if necessary until the temperature gauge need approaches the midpoint between "C" and "H."

Failure to perform this important procedure will likely cause flooding, and you will be liable for towing, repair, and car rental.
Thoughts? Suggestions for improvement?

Once it's final I'll post a PDF so that others can print it for themselves.

I have had occasion to tell valet parkers or whomever about the issue, but it's kind of pointless because they may not remember when they move it or (more likely) it may be a different person moving it.

Once the phrasing is settled on, I'd like to do a Spanish translation too -- any fluent Spanish speakers on here?

We could do French too for our Canadian friends.

Cool! That's pretty much the idea... But I'm hoping to make something that we all can use, so let's settle on the exact wording. :-)

This has already been proposed and discussed in a separate thread. See the attached image. Print it out and keep a couple of copies in the glove box.

Thanks - I didn't know that. I did a search but could not find a thread covering this. Any chance you could post a link to the original thread?

The language I have proposed is stronger -- rather than an appeal to be careful with it, it's a statement that they're responsible/liable if they screw it up.

Maybe it's unenforceable, but I thought it would be worth a shot.

I'd still like to pursue this... Especially with the multiple languages. I'm thinking of two versions: English/Spanish and English/French.

Valets are just one case of someone other than ourselves moving the car around. There are others. For example, in some metro garages and lots, attendant parking is mandatory, since they "stack" cars to save space (i.e., they park multiple cars in a single slot, such that it is sometimes necessary to move cars out of the way to get access to the car(s) in front).

Keep in mind the kind of person who typically gets a job as a valet. A request for special treatment isn't likely to get you far. Presenting it in a semi-threatening manner will probably make things worse. If you want a favor from a valet, be prepared to present a tip along with your request... - imo.

Good point. It's unfortunate that "please don't render my car undrivable" has to be considered a "request." ;-)

Maybe something should be included akin to "Please do not park this vehicle where it is likely to need to be moved a short distance afterwards" and then get into the whole "if you have to move this car a short distance," blah blah blah...

I created one of these the first month ( Jan 04 ) I had the car.

I printed it on heavy stock and cut it with a hook shape on top.

When needed, I simply hang the card on the rear view mirror, in full view of whoever is driving.

Cheers,
Oranje
