wondering what other cars were being considered before signing on the dotted line?

My brother and myself narrowed our choices down to only 2. namely the 350Z and the 8.

The 350 was out. Too selfish as it only sits 2 (350 with Nismo kit...totally yummy).

so it was the 8....and phew did we make the right choice!

I test drove a 1.7 yr old Lotus Elise and a 4 yr old Boxster. weeks before I sign for a Rx8

Would have bought the Lotus if the seller sells for $160K (seller wanted $175k)

Would have bought the Boxster if not I found out if anything goes wrong with the 4 yr old car, I would have to spend alot of money to repair it , cos 4yrs is consider quite a "old car".

Saab 93 Aero - not impressed with gear box
Volvo S60R - powerful but no 'looks' appeal
Audi A4 1.8T - crappy 16in stock rims
Nissan 350Z - crappy interior/high road tax/ uselss boot space
Honda S2000 - soft top ( afraid of getting ripped off in M'sia )

a friend influence me to get the RX8 and the rest is history.........and they live happily ever after.

1. selfish 2 seater which my family will have lots of things to talk abt but best part is, no more than 1 passenger.
2. rare n killer looks. Head turner too
3.Vtec engine, renowned.
4. plenty of aftermarket parts

Y i didnt get it? = expensive, not practical cos the car that i buy must be an everyday use car.

Volvo S40
1. Luxury car
2. quiet
3. Swedish make, volvo known for russian tank quality. Family will definitely like it. No noise from them.

Y i didnt get it? = the volvo can be driven when i'm in my late 30s or 40s. Definitely not now.

Acura NSX - production discontinued
Ascari KZ1 - track use only
Aston Martin Vanquish - too english
Bentley Continental GT - too snobbish
Bugatti 16/4 Veyron - way too f#@* expensive
Ferrari Enzo - by invitation, only for exsiting clients
Ford GT - only produce left hand drive
Gumpert Apollo - LTA non compliance
Koenigsegg CCR/CC8S - can't afford
Lamborghini Diablo/Murcielago - still can't afford
Maserati MC12 - Not for sale
McLaren F1 - can't find any new production
Noble M400 - cheapest of e lot but still over budget
Pangani Zonda C12F - waiting list too long... by e way also can't afford
Porsche Carrera GT - right hand drive not in production
Saleen S7 - definitely LTA non compliance
Vauxhall VX220 - not for sale and track use only
Mazda RX8 - none of e reasons given above!!!

I was looking for a lightweight NA FR Honda S2000, sadly to say the 8 is just a substitute.

350Z - selfish and costly to maintain
Integra - Cheap to maintain; but also cheap quality. Interiror too small
S15 - Too dramatic and must be manual

Saloons never cross my mind; namely WRX and Evo.

I muz share this real life scenario that happened 2nite.
becoz i think this is an episode of "before buying the 8" from this stranger.

I was in a hobby shop suntec today,
they were selling mainly model cars and planes, auto art, ebpro, franklin mint etc..

so i was minding my own business looking for the rx8 scale models.

then there were these 2 guys and a girl.

Guy "A", from the conversation that i overheard is driving an Impreza.
He was looking for a WRX model. Then when he saw the RX8, he went berserk...
"This my dream car man! RX8. Looks damn good!" Then Guy B went "yar man!, how much is it?" Guy A said "130grand, must save up". Guy B then asked "0-100 how fast ah?" Guy A said "Dunno leh but sure faster then the Honda ....what's that car?"

I could have easily gone over to correct them and given them the facts but I choose to remain silent and walk away feeling very "Liang"!

It was also good to know that an Impreza fan's dream car is not the STI
but the RX8!

Well, i guess looks are everything. Especially in SG where you get fined when the speedo hits 3 digits.

before i got the 8, i considered 3 options.

1. The S40T5. but the car like kenna langar front and back.
So compressed but really power man!
Not to mention the sales girl whom attended to me, ooooh la la!

2. 350Z. My boss got the car brand new for like a month before his licence got suspended. Mileage was like 3K plus.
He parked the car at home for about 10 months and sold the car for 110K from 150K. He offered me, veri tempting but I got no "feeling" leh, moreover if the road tax dun kill me, the frequent daily drive, petrol consumption definitely will.

3. Alfa 156. My wife dun like the front bumper,the logo there leh. She said like clef lip, need to go for plastic surgery.

but now i noe that i've made the right decision
when I went for a 2 week holiday and I actually miss my 8 like my darling.

anyway...something similar happened to me as well...was having a meal with some of my good friends. Some late comers to the dinner who drove said they saw a rx8 in the car park there and they liked it. So dinner....all walked to the car park...i went to the car....and they went 'wah K....so you driving this ah and asked this and that'

aiyoh....i was so paiseh....but also very liang. nvr on the air con also feel damn shiok inside. (think if i on the seat warmer...i won't feel a thing also)
