if you guys read my other thread when i thought i had blown my engine, good news it is not blown, after changing the turbo housing to fix the intake leak, it runs pretty good! just did a test run engine mount still off and no wheels but thank god it ran like my old nikki!

anyways, like usual when we do big changes, ie turbos there are always a few bugs to work out. I have one this time that i have not had before. I have an exhaust leak, it is hard to tell exactly where it is coming from but i think it is around the turbo maybe the downpipe or the flange to the manifold.

What is a good way to tell so i can just fix the problem and not have to take the turbo lose and redo everything? I mean like with a vacuum leak, spray some stuff and see if it gets sucked in. Any tricks like that out there?

Can you hear the exhaust leak?

while the car is running put your hand up to the suspected leakage area and see if you can feel any exhaust pulsations.

yea, but there are some many joints there, the manifold to the engine, turbo to the manifold, downpipe to the turbo, cat to downpipe, makes it hard to tell where it is.

Take a 2 foot long section of 1/2" rubber hose and put one end in your ear.
Take the other end and point it at the suspected leak points with the motor running.
When you have found the leak, you will know because it will be noticibly louder through the hose. It will sound llike somebody doing a raspberry directly in your ear.

thanks, just read this, i bought a cheap stethoscope and used that, worked very similar. it was at the turbo to exhaust manifold flange. a bolt on the turbo housing was hitting the manifold thus no seal, had to take it all apart! did that and put back together in one night, all i have left is to connect the engine mount, i was so tired i could not see! zoomzoom!
