View Full Version : My X Wing RX8
xwingrx8 12-02-2005, 03:35 PM I've had my 8 for a year now and have struggled with rattling problems in the front brakes but have finally installed the wing that I wanted. It's the spoiler from the Xmen 2 movie. Get lots of complements on it and now want to get a new grill. Hate the plastic, it's a pain to clean. Would like some different ideas. Looked at mesh and saw a cool metal horizontal looking grill with rx8 on it. If anyone has some grill tips. Please let me know. Preciate it.

Moostafa29 12-02-2005, 03:49 PM Idea #1: Lose the X-Men wing.
No offense to anyone that likes it, but I think it should have stayed in the movies.

XDEEDUBBX 12-02-2005, 04:04 PM makes me want to karate chop it!! hiyaaaa! :Kill2: :Kill2: :Kill2: :Kill2:
josh989 12-02-2005, 04:11 PM yeah.....ummmmmm.....I'm gonna need you to go ahead and take that off there
Inconsequential 12-02-2005, 04:22 PM Personally, I like it, and always have since I watched the movie. Nicely done on doing something you like and sticking with it. All the people saying to lose it, it's thier own opinion and thier own likes. Go with what you like and great for you!!
Umbra 12-02-2005, 04:38 PM thumbs down, more thumbs down to doing the grill the way you want
rogue2 12-02-2005, 04:49 PM I like it. I am trying to decide whether to get one like that or the Mazda Speed one. Is it pretty sturdy or is it flimsy like a lot of other aftermarket stuff?
BlueEyes 12-02-2005, 04:50 PM nobody said it's upside down yet.
NoTears316 12-02-2005, 05:05 PM IMO, the wing looks silly, I never liked the Xmen wing, but it's your car, so as long as you like it.
NoTears316 12-02-2005, 05:06 PM nobody said it's upside down yet.
Oh yeh, and its upside down. j/k
YanMan08 12-02-2005, 05:08 PM Nice dude. Got mine about 3 months ago. Heres a silver one if someone is curious of how it looks. :)
EyeBall Fixer...(o)(x) 12-02-2005, 05:31 PM I like it too. And no, its not upside down, thats installed the same way as in the movie.
Here's my front grill

I have since replaced the zip ties with chrome allen head machine bolts.
Good luck with your mods!

BlueEyes 12-02-2005, 05:39 PM I like it too. And no, its not upside down, thats installed the same way as in the movie.
It was upside down in the movie too.
YanMan08 12-02-2005, 05:41 PM lol
cleoent 12-02-2005, 05:46 PM i personally think the xmen wing looks ok, but would not put one on my car. Congrats man.
Moostafa29 12-02-2005, 05:52 PM It was upside down in the movie too.
And it looked horrible in the movie as well.
xwingrx8 12-02-2005, 06:16 PM :bootyshak yes, one 90 y/o at church one day said it's upside down. It looks good in person and is different. That's why I got it. Different. I had the mazda spoiler that looked like "a hump" and kept being complemented on my Eclipse. Was sick of it (not a Mitsubishi Eclipse fan btw). I had to take drastic measures. I'm going to take a new pic of it at a different view, it looks to evasive from that angle. It's very sturdy, it vibrates slightly on the tips above 110 mph, but had to squint in my rear view mirror to see it. A bit of a pain to wash, wax, and dry. But overall love it for setting it apart from the others in my area. Wanna see more pics of others with the same wing too. Holla again lata, Josh

Whoever confused your 8 with an Eclipse is a moron.

LMAO!!!!!
:mdrmed:
truemagellen 12-03-2005, 02:25 AM you know I was not a fan of this in the movie or most pictures I saw
but once I saw it in person I was shocked...it really does look good
BlueEyes 12-03-2005, 03:02 AM Funny guy magellen, funny guy.
truemagellen 12-03-2005, 03:04 AM you are a bastard in a good way :mdrmed:
but seriously it doesn't look that bad in person...although I prefer the stock wing
mikeb 12-03-2005, 05:28 AM I think the stock wing is ok at best
the xmen wing is alright and will defiently be unique
Nice dude. Got mine about 3 months ago. Heres a silver one if someone is curious of how it looks. :)
Yep, still looks hideous in silver...
xrider01 12-03-2005, 06:53 AM wing looks pretty good. i've been thinking about getting either that one or the MS wing. but hey.....we all know money talks right ;). lol
4 years to Supercharge 12-03-2005, 08:15 AM xwingrx8 I am guessing you are not a photographer. That shot is not very flattering for the wing. Pretty much looks like a mug shot.
I think the shot of the silver gives a better view but lacks depth.
disclaimer: I am not a photographer but have done plenty of video work.
As for my thought on the wing I can imagine Truemagellen's insite being very true as the photos here don't do justice much like Mazdaspeed bumpers.
I liked the wing in the movie but it was a fit for cyclops. Not for me, I'll stick with my super duper stock spoiler (not really a wing, to those that refer to it as one).
The mod I would like to do from X-Men 2 is the phone out of the Bose head unit!
Did they show how to do that in the extras?
NoTears316 12-03-2005, 05:31 PM I liked the wing in the movie but it was a fit for cyclops.
Yeah, Cyclops was a chode, wasn't he?!

Cool-Blue-Dad 12-05-2005, 12:20 PM Whoever confused your 8 with an Eclipse is a moron.
*Most* people are morons, but when I drive around town and see Eclipses and Neons with similar 'luggage handle' spoilers I think more and more about a MazdaSpeed or X-men wing.
Even though the RX-8 has a more squarish outline than the Eclipse there are really no sharp angles on the car. I thought that would make the X-men wing a bad fit, but seeing the mug-shot from the back I can see the curve of the main body of the wing.... not bad, not bad at all. I may need to find myself a Winning Blue X-men wing (and a new Winning Blue trunk with no factor-spoiler holes).
At least it's not a park bench. ;)
marvin_rock 03-18-2006, 09:51 PM Ok it amazes me that no one has put a "quality" picture of the wing yet. My car is a little dirty in this picture, but it still shows off the wing fairly well. My reason for getting it are extremely simple, I drive a yellow Rx-8. Both of those scream "a little different". So I didn't want the spoiler everyone else had. Since my car didn't come stock with one, I HAD to have one as the trunk looks naked without it. And I just eventually fell in love with the look of it. Without futher ado, here's the wing.

BlueEyes 03-18-2006, 10:09 PM The ugliness transcends colour barriers. We could learn a lot from this wing.
NgoRX8 03-18-2006, 10:09 PM IMO it angles up too much. But it's unique... :cwm27:

...ouch, but hell, whatever floats your boat right?

I actually agree it angles up slightly too much, but I *really* wouldn't recommend bending it down, then it would look... well... broken.
4 years to Supercharge 03-19-2006, 05:30 AM That's a nice picture of the wing Marvin Rock.
Much more flattering to the wing.
NoTears316 03-19-2006, 06:38 PM I wonder if it was actually a joke when they started selling the Xmen wing. The highschool shop class that originally developed it would get together and laugh everytime they actually got someone to buy one. Worst spoiler ever!
HolyCross05 03-19-2006, 06:46 PM no offense but that wing just kills the car
Moostafa29 03-19-2006, 08:03 PM I wonder if it was actually a joke when they started selling the Xmen wing. The highschool shop class that originally developed it would get together and laugh everytime they actually got someone to buy one. Worst spoiler ever!
 I think thats the best description I've heard of this spoiler so far.
Nemesis8 03-19-2006, 08:09 PM Looks like the Flying Nun's hat to me
chr1s 03-19-2006, 08:39 PM I'm disappointed with the amount of negative posts on this thread. This guy was all excited about his wing, and while nearly everyone who posted here might hate it, thats no reason to relentlessly rag on this guy.
While I won't post my personal feelings on the wing, because it's simply a matter of taste, I'm sure I could come up with about 50 things I couldn't stand about your RX-8 or your particular taste in anything.
Communities are better when they include all facets of people, whether you agree with their choices or not. While you're certainly entitled to your opinion, as am I, thats no reason to write some of the flames I've seen here today. If you don't like it, then just move on.
/me gets off his soapbox.
Conundrum 03-19-2006, 09:00 PM I liked the X-Men car, the only thing that I did not really like was the rims on that car, could have done a better job.
The replica X-men spoiler does not seem to do a very good job at capturing the design of original X-men spoiler.
Here are the pictures found on rotarynews.com, http://rotarynews.com/node/view/142
Notice that the pictures in the original post, the base part of the wing is as wide as the trunk lid, where as the the original x-men spoiler is not.
Original also does not appear to curve as much as the replica.
As for the diagonal fins of the spoiler, the original sticks out very further, since base is shorter.
Moostafa29 03-19-2006, 10:11 PM Can anyone play the violin for me real quick?

MMk, hope I never see you on these GA roads. I would be embaressed to be in the same car as you. But, if that's what floats your boat. I should be less harsh on you, you are from Hall county... your car is probably the best thing to happen to that county. HAHA burn sorry. If you like it, congrats my GA brother.

Mazdaspeed RX8 ver2 03-20-2006, 05:01 AM All i can say is unique, unique, unique. Its your car and if you like it, keep it. You got some balls for having it. Be proud!
FABRO 03-20-2006, 05:24 AM If the wing tickles your pickle, then more power to you man. Honestly it's not my style, but if you worked hard to buy the wing and put it on your car then congrats on your purchase.

If by working hard you mean surviving Iraq for a god d@mned year, then yeah... I worked hard for it...
marvin_rock 03-20-2006, 03:35 PM Honestly though, I knew everyone on the forum would hate it which is why I put off showing pictures up here so soon. But it just shocks me that all the people who can't stand it keep clicking the link that says "Xmen wing" on it. I don't really like lip spoilers, but I don't go around telling people how awful I think they look because it's taste. But like I said when this all started, whatever, it looks good and I get laid on a regular basis so I could care less what anyone thinks...

I know those Iraqi women... smokin hott.
Miker 03-20-2006, 08:50 PM Hint to Marvin: You're getting boned a lot because the girls think that spoiler resembles a crib. A baby Jesus and some tinsel and you'd have a perfectly good Christmas nativity scene on that back of that yellow beauty. Just don't park in on government property...separation of church and state and all that.

Every time someone posts a pic of this wing the same 5-10 people always post and tell them it looks like shit. We already know your feelings, and no one cares. It is not a very photogenic wing, and looks better in person. I've gotten a lot of compliments on it from people that have not seen X2 and, amazingly, have not visited this forum and been told what looks good by Mugatu
BlueEyes 04-10-2006, 12:35 PM Seeing it in person actually gave me a greater appreciation for how ugly it is.

i dont think its that bad

:yelrotflm , muhaha thats just mean. I guess the same could be said about the mazdaspeed spoiler, I know my friends who don't know anything about cars will say it's ricey and give me shit when I put it on my car. But oh well, looks are subjective.
marvin_rock 04-10-2006, 04:12 PM :(
blueeyes hurt my internet-feelings
Or E-Feelings. Just thought that had a nice ring to it. Although I agree it's always the same people that bash it, it's also the same people that like it. I could give a shit less what anyone on the forum thinks about it. I've NEVER had anyone say anything other than positive about it when they've seen it. And it's not like I'm an intimidating person to make them say stuff just to keep me off their ass or whatever. Just wanted to throw that in there. I'm extremely happy with the wing and it's not going anywhere, I don't care how creative the jokes are.
BlueEyes 04-10-2006, 04:22 PM People are more honest on the internet because it's anonymous. How many times have you walked up to a stranger and asked what they thought of the wing? probably never.
HolyCross05 04-10-2006, 04:30 PM how much do these things sell for anyways?
marvin_rock 04-10-2006, 05:53 PM $300 painted
I have never walked up to a stranger, but I get told that quite often at gas or service stations. And if a random stranger didn't like it, I wouldn't give a rats about him either
Cool-Blue-Dad 04-11-2006, 10:37 AM here's the best pic of it I've taken....

SoFL_RX8 04-11-2006, 10:46 AM Some guy pulled up next to me with an X-Men wing on the other day asking for directions... I gave him directions to the Airport so he could pepare for liftoff.
I think the only thing worse than seeing a big ricer wing on an RX-8 like that is seeing one on a Front-wheel drive car.
Pitty you put thoes holes in your trunk...
marvin_rock 04-11-2006, 11:04 AM Please lord don't let this thread turn into the FWD/RWD spoiler debacle, please take those matters where they have been THOUROUGHLY discussed here -
Helluva wing discussion (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=85404&highlight=cobalt)
And as an FYI, the holes are the same as the MazdaSpeed wing from what I remember, and in MY personal opinion the MazdaSpeed wing which everyone worships looks more rice than this one thanks to the metal looking stands they have.
BlueEyes 04-11-2006, 11:09 AM Yeah, I forgot to weigh in from a vehicle dynamics point of view on that subject. I'm going to make my own thread!
SoFL_RX8 04-11-2006, 11:09 AM I never said the MS wing was any less rice. And if he had no wing before, than he had to drill. Like I said, pitty he put holes in his trunk for that.
Im sorry, but "photogenic" or not, that wing was one of the ugliest mods ive seen in person. May be your slice of cake, but it aint mine.
