Can any fellow 8 owners off some advice on changing plugs?
Do most of you change them yourselves or leave this to the dealer?
If you do change them yourselves, where is the best place to purchase and what type are working well for you all?
I did get a quote from my local Mazda dealer at $160 for the four plugs and $100 labor. Is this reasonable or should I shop elsewhere?
Mazda also informed me that there are four plugs, two inlet and two outlet and they are different. Is this a true statement?
Please let me know any recommendations.

My 6 speed is at 40K and is just about 1 year old. I mainly drive hwy miles and only push it hard at weekends. No problems with the car, but after reading the book, they recommend changing plugs at 35K.

There are 4 plugs total: 2 Leading, 2 Trailing (Different Part #'s)

somebody should write a DIY on changing plugs... like where's the best location to reach the said plugs, seeing how low they are to near the bottom of the engine bay...

One more qucik question for someone. When I get the new spark plugs, do I need to adjust the gap or do they come preset?

pretty sure they come preset, since they are different than your standard plug.

You should check the gap, but as Brice said, they usually are set at the proper gap.

how do you gap a rotary spark plug since there's no 'tip' to adjust!

Not sure how you'd check the gap when the firing electrode is recessed in the plug.

To check the gap you need to use a wire type measuring tool. Just changed my plugs today for the first time...not a bad job compared to others over the years. Took me about 45 minutes.

The trickiest thing is lifting the front of the car using the approved lift point. It's very had to get a jack which fits under the car AND can be actuated. I had to use the factory wheel-changing jack to lift the car far enough to allow my floor jack to work.

Aren't there some newer plugs to help solve the cold-flood problem? Seems like the Mazda tech said something about a hotter plug or something?....They gave me a larger Amp battery, but I had too many miles for free plugs.
