Stuck between gears?

Can anybody tell me what might be wrong with my 2004 RX8? I am going to pick it up at the dealer where it was towed yesterday. I received a message that they cannot find a problem and it is now working fine. My problem is, I had driven home, parked in my driveway (moderate down slope) and as I usually do, I stopped, put it in reverse to back up slightly and turn my wheels to the curb. The car would not go. The gear shift stuck in the "down" position for reverse but the car would not move. I had two mechanic friends look at it and both thought it seemed to be stuck between reverse and some other gear. Even with the clutch in the car would not move or roll, the trans was apparently locked. I don't know how the dealer service dept "unstuck" the gears and will have to call them on Monday to get more details.

Sometines when it is in gear and on a steep enough slope...the vehicle weight will keep it in gear....towing it forward a bit will take off the pressure and will allow the tranny to move normally.

The dealer was probably as flabbergasted as you as they would have found nothing wrong.

There are other more sinister possibilities....but I would guess that was it

Thanks for the info. The car was not on a very steep slope (maybe 20 degrees?) but hopefully that is all it was. When the tow truck picked it up they put a dolly under the rear wheels so as not to drag the rubber. It may be that the transmissio never got a forward jolt until they offloaded it at the dealer and that freed it up. I have had several manual transmission cars but never saw this before - is it peculiar to the RX8?

My MX-6 did it once on a friends driveway...i put in the clutch and tried to get it to change gears...but the lever was stuck. I rolled it dowm to the flats.....rocked it back and forth on the flat with the clutch out..and it popped a bit and moved freely again....was fine after for 150K?? Kinda wierd though....
