Hi,

My RX8 suffers from what I would consider to be a lot of transmission whine. It really annoys me sometimes. Took it to the dealers and they say its a feature, although my brother has the same car and his has no transmission noise at all. My question is this, I recently bought some Redline oil for the Transmission and diff. I bought the oil to help with the bad shifts when its cold but can anyone tell me if it will help to quieten down the noise.

if you search around this is a common issue, its 'gear rolling' its the sound of the gears rolling around, if your at idle and put the clutch in the sound should go away almost completly.

I think its strange your brothers car doesnt make the noise, ive heard it with ALL rx8s ive seen. My car has made it since new, and still makes it with 9k miles on it.

I think the fact the dealer called it a 'feature' is hillarious!

The redline as well as other good quality synthetics will help reduce the noise and improve cold shifting and shifter feel. Although the noise might not totaly go away.
