NOPE!..........But there is a small cutout in the shape of the 'would be' light. It feels as though you could just push it out. Its obvious that the mirror was designed for it.....but where is it?
I will post a pic

The light is standard in the euro version. Maybe you can get it as an option?

I thought the lighted entry mirror was standard on the Grand Touring model, not the other two (Sport & Touring).

I believe that is correct.

Wish they were on there. The Volvo S60 T5 I had, had those exterior lights on them. I found them very handy both from a safety standpoint, to convenience. It made it easier to find the car in a parking lot at night. :)

Nope. I got the GT and just went out and looked. Got a black plastic plug in the mirror.

I'm disappointed that it doesn't have it. :(

Someone, go pop the black plastic plug, and see if the wiring harness is there. If it is, then I'll go ahead and order it from an overseas Mazda parts source and install the damn thing myself. (lamp and light fixture). :D

hmm what purpose does it serve other than helping you find your car in the parking lot?, looks cool though i'd like them if i'd be sensible to install using imported parts

It is turned on for 10 seconds after door closing.
On my experience
I think, That is not helping to finding a car, Since the light is switched on at the time of closing of a door.

Well as a safety feature it allows you to see if anyone is crouched near or underneath the car at night. But my Volvo had a button on the fob so you could activate them remotely. If all they do on the RX is stay on when you close the door, then they'd have less use.

This feature is actually very useful, if your parked agaist a curb at night and there isn't sufficant lighting. It lights up the curb area, and your passenger knows where to step so they don't end up breaking an ankel.

It's also great for exiting the car also.. You don't know where or what your steping on at night... But if it's all lit up it's great..

I noticed that also, and I have the GT - just rubber plugs. I wonder if the "night lights" accessory includes that. I know it includes the interior lights under where you put your feet, but I wonder if maybe it includes those exterior lights as well.

I have the night light kit at home. I didn't look at it too closely yet, but I'll check it out tonight. I'm pretty sure it just had 2 lights in it and didn't say anything about the mirrors

BASTARDS!!! there is yet one more thing that has been left out of the US car that that other areas get! they were in every car up until the u.s. production run! all the pre-production had them and reviewers even mentioned them. pisses me off.

So far I count the following missing from the USA standard packages (in order of discovery):

1. 6CD changer (in dash) with BOSE packages - now a $500 accessory
2. Auto climate control - not available at all from Mazda USA
3. Lighted entry door mirrors - not available at all from Mazda USA

Anything I've missed?

I think the reason being, is so they have something to add to next years model. Look the 2005 models have lighting under the mirrors, along with auto climate control, and rear fog light...

japan and europe have the option of a 5speed manual for the low power. only the automatic here.

UK has the lip spoiler and the rear fog light standard. not avaiable from Mazda USA.

optional struts for holding the hood open in Europe. not available from Mazda USA.

off switch for the passenger air bag in Europe. apparently so far not found on US owners cars.

This isn`t an option!! We (europe) get 6speed for high power and 5speed for low power. automatic isn`t available. Not even as an option!!

That meens there are things you (us) don`t get and things we (europe) don`t get.

NO 6CD CHANGER!!! I ordered mine with it back in January and realized today that it was not working. I JUST called my salesperson and he assured me it was there and to bring in the car tonight and he'd show me how it works.
So maybe even the sales people don't realise it is now not part of the Grand Touring package!!

I'm going to be ticked!!!!

going to be ticked you might as well start now. there is no cd changer in your car unless you specifically ordered the option sometime before your car hit the port. it is a $500 port installed option or a $500 plus labor dealer installed accessory. try not to run the salesman over with your 8 you don't want to scratch it.

is the plug for the US mirror opaque/clear or solid?

i am thinking a few resistor and a few LED from partexpress.com would do?

all we have to do is tab the dome light wires!

anyone?

damnit, i haven't even decided to get the car and i am doing metal mods...

now i should mention that there are things we get in the states that are not available to other countries. like for some unknown reason the Aussies can't get a sunroof! everywhere else but not them. and someone pointed out the lack of tire pressure monitors in other parts of the world. i think they should be available to the rest of the world. the light is probably built into the dash pods anyway.

I have the GT

My plug looks different than the photographed one. He mentioned that you could push it in. Mine looks like it could be popped off.

I'm thinking all you'll need is the lamp assembly, bulb, and clear plug.

IMO, I think the wiring harness is there inside the mirror, and the logic for the control of the timed light for entry/exit is located inside the car. Set up the same for US, Euro, and Japanese specs. If I was Mazda, that is what I would do.

As soon as I get my car, I would pop the plug to see if that might be true.
