eclps0 10-04-2005, 10:14 AM Big problem i Have gone through 2 quarts of oil in 3 weeks. I keep adding oil and it eating it up for some reason. Also yesterday i started my car and it made a grinding sound and then some smoke came out of the engine bay?? This really sucks i need my car for work.
The car seems fine but about a week ago teh car stalled liek 3 times comming home and then i reset the bat and it went away?
Please if anyone has any ideas of what it could be, please tell me
Tigster 10-04-2005, 10:17 AM I would just take it to the dealer they will give you a loaner to drive in the meantime for work.
eclps0 10-04-2005, 10:19 AM a loaner that i will nee dto pay for which i dont have money right now. I have alot of bills and expenses
dannobre 10-04-2005, 10:33 AM ^^ would be worse to blow up the car cause you didn't get it checked out :(
Tigster 10-04-2005, 10:37 AM you get a free loaner when you bring your car into the dealer for warranty work. My dealer gives me a loaner car for anything I bring it in for and you dont need to pay for it unless you want the additional insurance.

While we strive to make every Mazda service department waiting room as pleasant as possible, we’re aware that there's probably some place you’d rather be. That's why we created the Mazda Service Transportation Solution, where participating Mazda dealerships provide loaner cars at no charge to you while your vehicle is having warranty work performed.
Every 2001 - 2005 Mazda comes with the Mazda Service Transportation Solution for the duration of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Program is subject to dealer participation and availability; ask your dealer for complete details.
eclps0 10-04-2005, 12:24 PM They will keep the car for a day or two to see if it is warrentied or not if it is they will give me a loaner
grapes 10-04-2005, 12:35 PM Request a loaner when you drop it off.
Tigster 10-04-2005, 12:39 PM call make an appt, tell them you want a loaner car they will take care of the rest. As long as you are under warranty still youo don't worry about paying for the rental Mazda will pick up the tab. No need to wait with my dealer I drop the car off and they have enterprise pick me up and give me a car. You will need a credit card to put some sort of deposit down usually around 100 bucks or so. They will hold they money but wont charge it through and will release the money when you bring the car back.
eclps0 10-04-2005, 01:04 PM mazda said they cant give me a loaner untill it is veryified that it is warrentied
swoope 10-04-2005, 01:18 PM you might want to read this post and pull your intake off.

eclps0 10-04-2005, 01:40 PM can they really blame the intake. I have had nothing but probs with this car
This dealer is gunther mazda on 441
The car seems fine it idles great but its using alot of oil, And when i talked to the dealer they said oil prob got on the belt and caused it to slip and creat smoke from the heat.
Tigster 10-04-2005, 01:58 PM I would call another dealer, cant hurt to take the intake off.
How many miles are on your car?
When you say custom intake is it just a filter on a stick?
eclps0 10-04-2005, 02:17 PM No aem cold air i dont have time and really dont feel like taking off the bumper and alot more crap. i am to fed up to take it off and then put it back on ect
swoope 10-04-2005, 02:38 PM they can,
but they would be wrong. it is just easier to take that fight out of the loop. might consider cory fairbanks in longwood. i have had good luck with them.

KYLiquid 10-04-2005, 02:53 PM i get loaner cars for taking the car in for an oil change. I even got a loaner for when I got the button in my center console fixed. It was literaly a 3 min job, but I got a loaner and I kept it 3 days till i had time to drive back to the dealer. They dont care, mazda covers it.
Grinding noise at start up? Smoke Under the hood? Sudden increase in how much oil it uses?
Sounds like a possible OMP (oil metering pump) going bad.

I'm assuming you mean that the dealer said that, not Mazda USA. Make no mistake, the dealer is not the manufacturer. I realize that's pretty obvious, but it makes sense to keep that at the front of our minds when dealing with these types of situations.
Granted, the "Mazda Service Transportation Solution" is subject to dealer participation, and they may have their own rules. In the case of the dealer who sold me my RX-8, their policy is to provide a complimentary rental if the job is expected to take more than 4 hours.
In my opinion, a vehicle that is consuming huge quantities of oil and blowing smoke like yours is should be assumed to be "under warranty" until and unless such time that the service department proves otherwise.
Perhaps it is simply a matter of having them give you the rental/loaner, with your acknowledgement that if for some bizarre reason the repair is deemed not under warranty, that you would have to pay the rental car bill.
I would suggest getting on the phone with the dealership and getting the real and complete story about their rental/loaner policy. If upon receiving that information you're not satisfied with their "offer," then consider calling another Mazda dealer in your area (hopefully you have more than one to choose from, albeit it may be a bit further away) and ask them about their participation (or lack thereof) in the Mazda Service Transportation Solution.
And remember, as a last resort, there's always Mazda North American Operations (http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/contactMazda.action) at the other end of your phone if you end up needing someone to mediate or address your concern.
Your car is sick. Take it to a doctor.

I only take my car to Cory Fairbanks Mazda I like to use Jim Couch he rules! It is a little far from plantation fl. About a 3 hour trip.
What I dont understand you dont want to take the time to take off the intake but you want the dealer no honor the warranty work? WSould it be alot easier just to remove the intake to avoid the hassle?
eclps0 10-04-2005, 10:41 PM yeah i could do that but they know i ahve a intake i ahve gone in with the intake about 5 times already. So they are aware of it. if i take it off i am blaming myself already in there eyes

No your not blaming yourself, you are ruling out the possibility of the intake causing any sort of problems. Once that is ruled out then you can take the car in and be sure it is not being cause by your intake, and you dont have to worry about the possibility of them saying it was your intake that is causing this. But to each his own just take your car in and get ready for the argument cause from what you have said about your dealer he is not the greatest.
One last thing if you have the aem didnt that just come out? You have had it in the shop 5 times already with the newer intake?
eclps0 10-05-2005, 09:02 AM I had the k&n and then the aem
