View Full Version : Washing car in winter?

My RX-8 is my first new car in 12 years, so now that I have a fresh start, I want to keep it looking nice. So after hearing the virtues of Zaino on the forum, I Zaino'd it today. Dawn, claybar, z7, z2, z5, z2 (with z6 spray between each of the last 4). The whole deal.

So I understand that Zaino only needs to be applied twice a year, and inbetween those applications, I can just use z7 for day-to-day cleaning. But what do people do in cold weather, when it's too cold to break out the hose?

Zaino can be layered pretty much indefinitely.. I've heard of people applying upwards of 30! coats! But that would be just anal... :p

In the winter I usually wash my car at a do it yourself car wash bay that has power hoses.. Or go through a totally touchless gas station car wash. Once the winter is over I try to put on at least 5 coats through the summer.

Garage it in the winter and get a beater. :D

As far as a touchless carwash, assuming I can find one, is there any need to worry about them using cleaning solutions that will cut through the zaino coating?

30 coats - wow.

I don't think so about the touchless.. Although washing your car repeteadly will eventually strip the coats I guess. If you really want to be safe, put on about 10 coats from spring to fall, that should be enough. Remember to apply very thinly, I still have about half of a bottle left after two years.
