View Full Version : Night Shoot: Rx8 + S2000
cleoent 09-03-2005, 02:01 AM Well, I'm a bit dissapointed. The lighting was awful, out of 50+ pics these are the only ones that turned out decent. I'm sure you guys are bored of seeing my pics by now, but I thought i'd share anyway :D
Edit: New pics are up, tinkered a bit more in photoshop (1:22am Saturday)
(original effect pics can be viewed here http://www.cleoent.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=114)

Much better IMO.
Im_DANomite 09-03-2005, 02:05 AM they aren't too bad. not really digging the filter tho. so which one did the donuts around the light post? :D
juikster 09-03-2005, 02:08 AM nice quiet erie low ilumination effect ,low light yellows do the pics justice...
djgiron 09-03-2005, 02:08 AM I kind of like the sepia tones. Nice photos, what camera are you using?
bedrock83 09-03-2005, 02:56 AM Is that the oakridge parking lot?

No filter was used.
cleoent 09-03-2005, 03:45 AM pics were taken with a nikon d70. The color (white balance) of the photo's is the best i could do with the lighting i had to work with. Very yellow/orangey lighting up there and not a lot of it.
The pics were taken on the roof of the oakridge parking lot :D
cLLcLe 09-03-2005, 03:51 AM I don't think those are THAT bad. Looks kinda cool in some ways ^^
cleoent 09-03-2005, 04:25 AM got rid of the effect sorry fellas :)
Put up some more. Wife was bugging me to watcha movie with her () so i didn't get to tinker much, now with more time i got more of the effect i was going for...
cas2themoe 09-03-2005, 08:00 AM Great pictures, big difference in looks if you ask me. Still like the S2000 but the RX8 is so damn sexy! :D
djgiron 09-03-2005, 08:46 AM I am looking to upgrade my Fuji s7000 digicam, but I am still not sure I want to go dSLR, maybe the new s9000 from Fuji will make me happy, we will see.
Whitehot 09-03-2005, 09:02 AM I think those still look pretty cool in the untouched form.

I like them both too, but the newer ones are more along the lines of an actual representation of the cars colors :)
poolsidenaz 09-03-2005, 12:24 PM Great pics! I love the look of both cars. I hear people say how the 8 is the miata's big brother. I think the S2000 and 8 have much more in common tho and your pics are a joy to view. Thank you! :D
brothervoodoo 09-03-2005, 12:31 PM I like them..
Moostafa29 09-03-2005, 12:42 PM Nice pictures
dazygirl415 09-03-2005, 12:44 PM Very nice. :D
Flawless 09-03-2005, 07:10 PM nice pictures... i took some pics of my 8 w/ an s2000 a while back and they came out pretty good. my 1 question is did you guys make those marks all over the parking lot there? ;)

Nope, in fact i was kicking myself in the ass for picking the one light that had that crap all over it :(
KYLiquid 09-06-2005, 03:18 PM love the pics, esp the 3rd one down with the s2k and the donuts
cleoent 09-06-2005, 03:22 PM thanks, that was the idea, I wanted to try and follow the curve...
Glyphon 09-06-2005, 03:37 PM great pictures, and i actually really like the coloring in the pictures...especially the ones where you can see the neon signs in color in the background, but since it doesn't seem you wanted this effect, you didn't have your camera white balanced correctly. next time, manually white balance the camera in the light you are going to be shooting in with a piece of blank white printer paper. just make sure that the paper is mostly shadow free and fills the whole viewfinder. and if the lighting changes, white balance again.

Close :p
I shot in RAW which allows me to set my white balance after the fact. I wasn't able to find a white balance that was able to neutralize the yellow lighting. Unfortunately the only remedy is to tinker in PS (which is what i did) or go and shoot under white lights. I wasn't able to find any white lights so i just did the best i could with the really bad orange/yellow lighting i had...
Btw- the pics posted now are the corrected ones (to me anyway), the older yellow ones are in the link provided.
Glyphon 09-06-2005, 04:19 PM you should be able to still whitebalance when shooting with RAWs...use the "preset" wb setting with a white source (piece of paper that i mentioned previously) under the lighting.
and while it is true that you can adjust the whitebalance with raws (and jpegs, like i attached), it is far more accurate, and less time consuming to set the wb correctly before shooting, and then do small tweaks as needed in post ;)
don't take this as critisism. its not. i really like the photos.

Yeah in this case i set the white balance to AUTO on the d70, knowing I was using RAW i didn't care. Didn't take it as a critisism at all, but I dont think that woudl have helped in this case. :)
JeRKy 8 Owner 09-09-2005, 01:10 AM I'm not a fan of the black and white/gray/night vision mode you used
lazymark 09-09-2005, 12:26 PM cut the photo mumbo jumbo - photos look sick
