View Full Version : driving position - sore leg?!
capncrunch 09-01-2005, 07:33 AM Stupid question here, but does anyone else suffer from a sore right leg whilst driving this car? I find my quadriceps (top of the thigh) on my right leg get sore after driving for just 5 of 10 minutes. I think this is due to the fact I can never seem to find a decent position for my right foot and I end up using my leg muscles to hold my leg up a little. Also I think because I'm paranoid about wearing holes in my floor matts I subconsciously hold my leg up a bit...
get another car mat (ie. el-cheapo ones) so you wont worry about putting a hole in your rx-8 mat :D
labrat 09-01-2005, 07:54 AM I guess this might suggest that you need to raise your seat a little. It's funny, but I found at the beginning that quite small adjustments to the rake and fore and aft adjustment had quite an effect of long distance driving comfort. Now its perfect and the car fits me like a glove. It irks me when I get the car back from service - it takes me a bit of fiddling about to find my right position again.
Oh, and my right foot is wearing a hole in the RX-8 mat - better than the carpet, I guess! I might see if I can make a respectable looking pad for that area. Maybe Clark Rubber has something?
dazygirl415 09-01-2005, 08:25 AM I think my leg felt the same way at first, but then I got used to the car.
But now I have a problem with my left foot. My toes always seem to go numb after a long drive. I'm fairly short so I've adjusted my seat so that I can see over the steering wheel :o so I wonder if that could be the cause...
And like Labrat, it takes me awhile to re-adjust after getting my car back from service too.
timbo 09-01-2005, 05:39 PM I found I had to adjust the seat higher and closer to the wheel than I was used to, when I first got the car. I spent the first 12 mths doing at least 1 round trip of 600k a week, and after the adjustment found the car very comfortable. Mats are cheap!
Revolver 09-01-2005, 06:08 PM Speaking of seats, mine is really starting to squeak a lot now.
Another thing to take up with them next service!
As for the leg thing - hey, that's what the mat is for. Wear the sucker out and then get another one.
auzoom 09-01-2005, 08:34 PM Yes I agree. I have to sit a lot closer that I would normal expect to do.

Nemesis8 09-01-2005, 08:40 PM Hmmmm... I had this for awhile when the car was new. I'm used to it now. I'm 6'1" and I'm thinking of getting the Mazdaspeed knee pads.
aruffell 09-16-2005, 11:48 AM Knee problems anyone? My left knee hurts and I believe it is due to the fact the car is so low that you need to put a sidewise twist on your left knee when exiting the car. Is anyone else having a similar issue? My right knee is uncomfortable when i lean the leg on the side to rest it on long drives for the sidewise twist... the knee pad would solve this but I don't like the idea of putting one in....
ZoomZoomH 09-16-2005, 12:13 PM for those with floor mats that are getting worn very quickly, get the factory all-season rubber mats, they can take FAR MORE abuse than the regular mats :D
ZoomZoomH 09-16-2005, 12:14 PM as for leg discomforts, this car is actually one of the most comfortable cars i've ever sat in, everything pretty much fits me perfectly (gotta love being the 'average' height of 5' 10" :D )
midlife crisis 09-16-2005, 05:48 PM I find that removing that big ol' billfold from my back pocket makes the 8's seats fit much better. The seat then fits you!
Revolver 09-16-2005, 05:52 PM This is not a low car compared to many sports cars out there. I find it very comfortable.
But, I'm also under 6' so I guess that helps. ;)
spaldo 09-17-2005, 06:41 AM My RX8 fits like a glove. I just hate having to adjust everything back when anyone else drives the car.
Also.. if you haven't done this already... lose your wallet out of your back pocket... I find on long trips if I don't take mine out I'll get a numb/sore leg quicker.

Since the petrol price went up my pocket is the same size wallet or not...
