View Full Version : Moving to Maryland

Next month I'm moving on out to Laurel, Maryland from Lafayette, Indiana. I guess the most important information I'll need is names of the local Mazda dealers and/or rotary mechanics. Rotary specialists would be great since this area's a wasteland of Wankel knowledge.

if i remember correctly, laurel, md is near laurel, delaware, so probably your closest mazda dealer will be in salisbury.

Doesn't seem to be close to Delaware:
MapQuest for Laurel, Maryland (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&address=&city=laurel&state=md&zipcode=)
Southwest corner of Anne Arundel county.

you are correct, my bad. go to www.mazdausa.com and search for dealers local to that area would probably help

Well, which Laurel? There are two here in MD I think. One is the next city over from me. I'm in Beltsville/College Park.

Laurel is close to Baltimore but I am not familiar with dealers in the area. It is NO WHERE near Delaware.

There are dealers and there are "dealers" (i.e. the ones who will rip you off) ... Check the postings of good and bad dealerships.

If you want a good haul, I would recommend Heritage-Mile One of Bel Air. Mile One has a ton of dealerships throughout the Baltimore area. I go to the one in Bel Air and their service staff is AWESOME!!!

They even call back after a service visit to see if you were satisfied. They know how to create and keep loyal customers.

Bel Air unfortunately is about 1hr from Laurel and there are quite a few dealerships closer.

Why would anyone intentionally move to Laurel?

My thoughts too? I mean I lived in College Park for 4 years (during college) and that was enough of PG county for me, and especially enough of laurel.

well at least at college park you get quite a bit eye candy action when school's in session ;)

Four miles to the fort from where my townhouse is.

Sheesh. For cheap housing I shouldn't be moving at all. A decent mortgage plus property taxes are cheaper in Indiana than any rent I found in Maryland.

There is no such thing in the DC area. That is part of the reason I am moving to Phoenix.

Four miles to the fort from where my townhouse is.
If you need to be close to Fort Meade, I would suggest looking in the other direction towards Pasadena or Severna Park and Annapolis.
Laurel is, essentially, the arm pit of PG county which is the arm pit of Maryland.

They are starting to change Laurel a little though. They just completely tore down a Apartment Complex where a lot of the low life trash came from. I have no idea what their going to do with the empty space now. And for the Mall, its worthless! I think their going to sell that and have it tore down as well.

Funny, no one has answered your question. I will ask Heritage Mile One Mazda of Bel Air whom they would recommend and get back to you.

I'm still in Anne Arundel county instead of Prince George's. I found a pretty even distribution of dumps and nice places in the 13 apartments I saw. Elkridge, Glen Burnie, Odenton, Crofton, Piney Orchard, Laurel...

I use Congressional Mazda in Rockville MD, about 10 miles from Laurel. They have been very good to my RX8 everytime I brought it in. Stay away from Darcars Mazda in Silver Spring (6 miles from Laurel). Their service department sucks. I live about 1/4 mile from them but I would rather drive the miles to Congressional.

I'll agree with that. Darcars sucks bad! I had to get the Vice President in there one day.

DarCars does suck.
Congressional is good.
Gaithersburg Mazda is good.

you'll be living close to me. i live right near the base. Rich Morton Mazda in Pasadena and Fitzgerald Mazda down in Annapolis are the ones i go to. hit me up when you get here...we will be neighbors after all :D

I'd suggest Rich Morton Mazda see Frank Titus ... a straight shooter.

Never heard anything good about DarCars service. I had poor experiences  with Russell on RT40 with my 7 ... one of the reasons I purchased from Rich Morton.

If you're at Fort Meade, you should consider Columbia.

Welcome to the area.

Yeah, I also go to Fitzgerald Mazda. They've been the best service department that I've had so far. I live in Annapolis, so it's pretty convenient.

I live in Laurel. Not my first choice, but parts of Laurel are nice. Laurel actually spreads throughout 3 different counties, I believe. Anne Arundel, Prince Georges, and Howard. I live in the Howard County portion and it's very nice. I would stay far, far away from PG county from what I hear. I live in north Laurel, but I don't go anywhere south of where I live because the area's gotten pretty ghetto-fied. I head to Columbia for anything I need to do.

As for dealerships... I bought mine from MileOne Heritage in Owings Mills. Buying the car was great. Bringing it in for service (which I did for the first time yesterday) SUCKED so I would not recommend them at this point. I haven't been to any other places yet so I can't help out there.

Welcome to the area! :)

I'll be there mid-September. Going through a complex in Odenton called Archstone Seven Oaks I spotted a(nother) blue RX-8. Don't know if that was someone here.

are you stationed at Meade?? Laurel isnt so bad, but you should try looking in Columbia little more expensive but much nicer and safer. A great dealership to go to is Darcars Mazda in College Park, their customer service sets a true standards as to how other dealerships should operate!!

AVOID Russell Mazda close to Ellicott city (Baltimore Pike I believe), anyhow, Russel mazda is a shitty place to get your services done, they did a horrible job when I took my car to get my oil changed and services, it took all day! I almost had to make a seen and yell for the manager to get anything done over there.

You dont have to ever go back to the dealer from which you bought the car...as long as you go to a Mazda dealer. I dont think VOB BMW or 355 nissan would work on your car for free :)

they look up information based on your VIN. should tell the dealership everything they need to know about your car.

I think when it comes time to putting money towards a mortgage that I'll look a little ways away from Laurel. The Anne Arundel part of it is ok though. Sounds like Russell Mazda is a lot like Bill Andrews Mazda of Lafayette, Indiana.

I don't really think I get better service because I am a girl, but if that is the case I reallyd dont care as long as I continue to get great service Ill keep going there, but thanks for posting tips on better dealerships!!
