Pretty short (2 laps) of me driving the infield course at California Speedway in Fontana. I am the bone-stock grey RX8 up ahead, the camera car is a Nismo R-Tune 350Z on Kumho Victoracer's with Stoptech brakes.

Damn you guys are pretty fast.

That's about my best time on that track.

Was he trying to keep up with you?

I guess so :)

I ended up posting a best of 1:21.2 which was pretty good I guess for stock conditions. It will be interesting to see what the car will do with the new turbo motor!

Sweet - are you running Potenza's or Dunlop's?

Dunlops...they were pretty useless after about 4 hard laps - basically a long drift session for the remainder :)

Lol, did he hit a cone at the 58-59th second of the movie? Seems like he couldn't control the speed of the car when going into those turns, handling on the 8 seemed more percise than the Z. Great video, fun watching.

Nice vid, but I dont think the Z was giving it his all.

I test drove a Z this weekend, and it that vid it sounds at though he has it out for a leisurely Sunday drive. Im not saying he would have been able to pass you either.

As flattering as the video appears, I would have to agree with you. There's no way a stock RX8 should be pulling away from a Nismo R-Tune Z with huge brakes and sticky tires :)

I think your both full of it...................... This is a track with a good amount of turns and the 8 will pull away from the Z in the turns. If I heard the video correctly, the Z's tires were sounding a little like he was taking the corners hard. The guy was most def trying to drive his Z hard. Don't hate because the 8 can hang with a Z. Straight line the Z is going to take us but when you add some Turns and breaking into the equation, its a whole another story.

Youre entitled to your opinion as well. I still disagree. Yes our 8's are good on the track, but the Z is not slouch.

He was giving it all he had, you could clearly tell in the straights he was gaining, particularly about the 1:26-1:42 mark. But he clearly wasn't as good of a driver. He couldn't nail the entrance, often broke way too early, was scrubbing off way too much speed in the turn, and getting bad exits too. The couple times he did make good turns, like the aforementioned portion of the video, he clearly gained ground in the straight.

Thanks guys. I was really impressed with the feedback from the 8 - I've owned lots of cars before (including the FD) and never really felt as comfortable as I did in this one. It was also my first time at the track and first time in the car, so that speaks volumes.

Next up is ~350rwhp, about 400lbs less weight and some suspension :)

I know that and I never said it was. But dont act like the RX8 cant hang with it on a track with corners. Thats all I'm saying. Lets put it this way, the more turns you have the better for us, the more straights you have the better for the Z. Understand now?

That will do alot of damage to other cars on the track! :D

You dont have to act like an ass. Im well aware of both the 8's and Z's capabilities on the track.

I think he's the same Nismo R tune that was at the track on the 23rd.

He was behind me for a while. Then he never caught up.

It's hard for me to believe your that fast with a stock car. The guys with stripped and heavily modified cars are only running 1:20 and the best were at 1:17
